I want to make an Imperial Guard regiment that hails from Terra. Does this idea make them too unique special snowflakey from the get go?
WIP Regimental Details:
71st Imperial Mobile Infantry
Call: "To the Imperium!"
Response: "First blood!"
Do you think Terra has guard units levied? I know the Terran Prefects existed (and were destroyed on Armageddon) so presumably some Terran regiments are raised.
Also, sidebar, take your average Cadian guardsman versus your average Terran marine from SC. Who wins? I think the Terran marine wins by virtue of technological superiority.
Cadia uses mostly light infantry for normal guardsmen.
Terran Marines from SC are heavy imfantry.
In a 1on1 fight heavy will always win against light. A lone guardsman can't kill a full Nob, how do you expect him to kill a Space Marine clone?
Terra is unlikely to provide guard units for several reasons, first it is one of the most heavily fortified systems in thec
galaxy and they will want to keep as much manpower stationed there as possible, second terra is technically the imperial fists recruitment world as the emps never got around to reassigning them after the heresy and as we all know astartes worlds are immune to the imperial tithe.
The terran pdf is probably way better equipped than the guard anyway.
Has been canon thatba kasrkin has a 50/50 chance of killing a space marine in combat.
So yes. The Terran marines are just blatant ripoffs of a ripoff of medival armor in scifi settings.
It would probably come down to who shoots first. A lasgun will fuck up terran marine armor just as well as those bullets will kill the cadian. I don't know the science, or lack thereof, of 40k or Starcraft well enough to think of who would win, but I'd be rooting for the Cadian.
>Do you think Terra has guard units levied
Considering it's absolutely enormous population - it's almost a granted. Gotta do SOMETHING with that logarithmically growing biomass.
Either SC marine wins or Gurdsman pulls a Death or Glory and hugs him with a primed krak grenade, resulting in a draw.
There's a mention of the Armored Terran Praefects destroyed by a Demon Prince in M35.
Lends evidence that 1) there are Terran Guard regiments and 2) they have more specializations than purely defensive warriors.
Besides, Mobile Infantry made me the man I am today.
I think Commissar's are best when they come with short guttural names. Gaunt, Hark, Yarrick, Cain.
So how about:
Never forget that Commissars are war orphans and typically will be foreigners both culturally and ethnically to any regiment they are attached to, this gives you opportunities to display contrasts between two worlds of the Imperium.
If you have a regiment with very proper Imperial names like Constantinius, Ollanius, Patricus, then a Commissar with a name like Gorov stands out as a foreigner.
For some reason I'm imagining urban combat deamon hunters.
Terra is tithe exempt so these are volunteers. They are drawn from the underhives and stumps and forgotten places where faith shines bright so far from the sun.
Tribal and half crazy. Excellent equipment but modified to look tribal as fuck. Concrete dust face paint and rituals of blood drinking.
Leather coats from those twelve foot monster rats and cockroach shell carapace slapped on top.
Their faith, although expressed in tribal traditions, is an absolute. The lyrics don't play well with others. They would probably get.on well with the sisters of it weren't for the fact that the sisters see their rituals and doctrine as borderline heretical.
They don't trust space marines as space marines fell from grace and burned half the stars in the sky. By association all bloodlines of the Primarchs are damned. Damned but not forsaken.
In death or a life in His service is redemption found.
Their language has nothing to do with gothic. This makes it bloody hard to integrate them with others.
Commissars often have to be the regimental translators.
C:Chapter Master Agustus, you have a BIG gun.
A:Well. it is simply a storm bolter, commisar.
C: Im sure it STORM the bolt rounds deep and hard.
A: Well, I guess it does. It is blessed by the Magos himself using sacred oils of the machine god.
C: I bet he RUBBED the sacred oils all over its LONG and sturdy barrels with care.
A: *into the vox* Deep Strike me up. NOW!
C: Yes, DEEP STRIKE DEEP AND HARD MY LORD CHAPTER MASTER DEEP AND HARD!
A: *into the vox* QUICKLY DAMN IT!
Make his sexuality a mystery. So far as ante in the regiment knows he has never fully ked anyone man or woman.
He just acts like a bit camp. Sophisticated, erudite and slightly foppish.
That combined with
Who he describes as."a bit rough around the edges", "a robust set of fellows","possessed of an unrefined disposition" and so on. Meanwhile behind him a new initiate is getting ritual scars whilst an animal skin wearing tribal priest with a face covered in pale war paint roars sacred script in a brutal blood freezing language.
Commissar Gus Ibrak: I say Tom, these sherberts are positively piquant.
Colonel "Tom" Tom-Browlawvitzson: You right, this lemon candy's aight.
Commissar Gus Ibrak: Now, now Tom, remember? No contractions.
Colonel "Tom" Tom-Browlawvitzson: The lemon candy is alright. Better?
(I like to imagine lowhive archaic Gothic as simply Gothic spoken with a New Yorkers accent but its so incomprehensible that other Imperials think its primitive).
