Right, time for the good news and the bad news.

The good news is that the university has a new scanning machine, which has made everything so much easier. I can now average two or three pages a minute instead of one every few, so there will be no more delays. Retribution and the HH Masterclass will be done on time.

The bad news is that this new machine is a lot more temperamental. It doesn't have a colour balance option, so the pictures aren't quite as nice as the old ones. Also they're a lot bigger. Like 7 Mgs per picture as opposed to 2-3 on the old system. You can clearly see where the new scanner takes over from the old one in these pics. Posting images will be a lot harder when I do Retribution.

Well, here it is. The final of the red (Well, black in my case) books.

>>
>>44701480

That's partly what I did. I also mixed in a black Templar upgrade kit since even two BaC doesn't give you enough arms for 10 guys with pistols and swords.

Upside is that you get 4 knight helms, 2 mark 4 Templar chest pieces, 6 miscellaneous tabard chest pieces and some power weapons for your Templars as well as the shoulder pads.

Let's just pretend he is even close to being better than the Lion. Oh wait.
>>
Is there any stuff regarding bolter pattern issues. Like are certain suits, units or legions more likely to make use of a certain pattern over others? FW has Tigrus pattern bolters in the seeker variant, their tartaros suits and gorgons come with the tigrus style combi-bolter while the cataphractii has the phobos style combi-bolter.

I know it's all up to me, but has there ever been any word on certain units preferring or being issued with certain weapon patterns over others?

Would anyone be interested in a 40K monster girl CYOA?

I've been trying my hand at writing a cyoa about a soldier from a futuristic nazi-esque society on the 8ch /monster/ board, but they're currently having technical difficulties. Writing CYOAs is really fun, but I'd like to see if people like my ideas before I start drafting.
>>
>>44705588
Codexes. For example the 3e inquisitorial codexes say that the DA rule "Hunt for the Fallen" is suspended if DA are in the same army as the Inquisition, due to fears of their secrets leaking out.

In 7e codex one of their successors has come under inquisitorial scrutiny and may possibly face excommunication.

>>
>>44705900
The tubes, the extra big boxy gubbins. Power weapons, in particular powerswords often don't have anything beyond those electrode looking things on the blade. Force weapons also always lack those.

If I recall correctly, what is and is not a loli actually has something to do with head:body ratio and certain other bodily proportions. There are actual quantifiable proportions for this shit, but I can't remember them of the top of my mead because it's not really something I'm interested in.

As far as I know, it's also actually supposed to refer to teenagers, since the word loli is just a short form of the word lolita, which comes from the actual book titled "Lolita."
>>
File: image.jpg (125KB, 744x969px) Image search: [Google]
image.jpg
125KB, 744x969px
>>44706266
That's actually sounds kinda funny.
>>
>>44706279
Yeah, but Lolita was like 12 years old in the book.
>>
>>44706279
Like the difference pedophilia (wants to fuck kids) and ephebophilia (wants to fuck adolescents).

Lolita's namesake was a "sexually precocious" teenager overdeveloped for her age (12 IIRC).

Notably like the modern loli looks like an child -chubby, underdeveloped, short. That they tend to speak with childish mannerisms, wear childish clothing, and frequently have bladder control problems suggests to me it's not ephebophilia the audience is looking for.
>>
>>44705492
>Remember the time that they tried to fuck over the Space Wolves?
Yes, I remember it well. The Space Wolves were so far beyond reproach that other Inquisitors and even fucking Grey Knights were plotting to assassinate the idiot Inquisitor that started it all.

That would not be true if there was any doubts about their loyalty...
>>
>>44706061
Well... Yeah I do but that's not the point. I imagine she would be that typical super-serious anime girl trope that rarely smiles or shows emotion in front of you, but secretly likes you and does so when no-one is looking.

Wait, why are discussing anime high schooler Primarch love relations exactly?
>>
>>44706323
Right, that's still a teenager. Lolita is supposed to refer to girls aged around like 11-14; basically girls that haven't reached peak physical development yet but are past puberty.
>>
>>44706377
Because we need to stop posting and go to sleep.

Also because we're essentially romantics.
>>
>>44706382
Being a teenager starts at thirTEEN. Puberty might kick in earlier an that, though.
>>
>>44706377

Why are we discussing the technical of Lolicon and the literary significance of Lolita as a character?

Just roll with it. It's more fun that way. /hhg/ can do with some fun off topic shit for once.
>>
>>44706388
Not me. I'm very crude when it comes to romance and I find most of peoples expectations about it to be pretentious crap hyped up by media.

I'm sure there is a rational reason why I'm single.
>>
>>44706388
Hah! Jokes on you because I have just woken up and have to go to work soon, fuck.
>>
>>44706339
The modern loli is a reflection of what the average person thinks a loli is or what someone with a lolita complex would like. Since no matter how you want to try and phrase it, a lolicon is a person who likes young girls, that naturally gets distorted and taken to an extreme which it was not meant to be taken to, I.E. pre-pubescent children.

Now you've entered the realm of philosophy; Is the modern loli the correct loli, because more people identify that as a loli? Is the original loli coined by the book "Lolita" the correct loli, because that is how the word was formally coined and defined?

Language is a weird thing, bro.

I think it's linguistic drift from the Katakana usage.

Lo-li-ka-n works out well in Japanese better than Pa-eh-do-feh-li-a....more or less.

So it's just a useful shorthand. Like how in the states lusting after anything under 18 is "zomg pedophilia" instead of "zomg ephebophilia."

I can't say I knew the difference 'til early 2015.

Same reason why Homosexuals aren't really called Homosexuals in common language, never mind that 'Gay' already meant something else.

The word Homosexual sounds unnatural, and has a negative connotation associated with it. Same thing with Pedophile. It's just word rebranding to make behavior socially perceived as deviant seem less deviant.

I'm sure something happened during the Horus Heresy that demonstrates this principle in action, but I've only just started reading the series now that I've got through my massive backlog of Imperial Guard novels.

It's not clear.

The 40 High universe is post-Great Crusade, but also non-HH. The basic setting is that nobody betrayed Emps and he saddled all his sons with children to give them something besides war to care about.

They're all test-tube kids, incidentally.

Everyone is essentially mellowed out -though Curze still Night Haunts when he's jittery- and have de-mobilized into a sort of "average" suburban section of an "average" city.

The actual carnage and waste of the Crusade is very much papered-over; theoretically it all still happened but it goes unconfirmed.

I guess a decent description would be that things ended like Emps would have wanted them to end but better than he would have chosen them to end. There is no perpetual war culture. There is no constant threat of Chaos. There is no xeno predation. There is no Ecclesiarchy and no heretic hunting.

There are still battles and there are still dangers, but things aren't grimdark. Where any other factions are is unknown. From what I remember they're all outside the essentially stable borders of this version of the Imperium.

It's all fanon of course, but it's highly resistant to non-Imperial meddling -no Eldar kids running around, no Tyranid pets, or obnoxious Tau'va's Witnesses knocking on Russ's door asking him if he's "heard the good news."
>>
>>44706867
Ah, here we go:
>>In the center of a massive chamber near the heart of the imperial Palace stood an enormous statue of the Emperor of Mankind in golden armor flanked by Custodes and the Sisters of Silence, facing a delegation of Eldar led by Eldrad Ulthran.

>>Eldrad had found the Emperor at the outset of the Great Crusade and warned the Emperor of the dangers of Warp beings. As a show of loyalty, Eldrad was able to get the Eldar to cease aggression against the Imperium. Slowly, the tenuous cease-fire solidified into a Treaty, then a pact of mutual assistance between the two races. During the Crusade, Fulgrim and his Legion had run across maiden worlds that the Eldar had planned to return to, and with coordination between the Imperium and the Eldar, the Eldar had managed to start anew on the eastern fringe of the galaxy.

>>Now the Emperor worked together frequently with Eldrad; Liana mused that maybe powerful psykers attracted their own. It was the Eldar who first insisted that the Emperor take the threat from the Warp more seriously and resulted in the creation of the Grey Knights.

Oh, and... though this kind of material frequently incites rage in various of the fa/tg/uys I suggest if you don't like it you should regard it as being like a soap bubble.

It's pretty, it's floaty, it's empty, it's meaningless. It's a daydream. It's warm-and-fuzzy-fic that nobody in the actual setting would find less than disgusting and insulting.

(Ironic that all the rage about "newfags" being thin-skinned is from lads who get lit up by stuff like Warhammer High.)

I like it. I think it's cute. That doesn't in the least impair my wish to hate to death people who beat me at DoW2: Elite Forces.
>>
>>44706867

Say what you will about the premise (and I've heard all the criticisms before, and they are valid) the biggest problem was that the authors never read any of the HH Books. So they fucked up their portrayal of the Daughters, the Primarchs and the Imperium big time. Few of them read as anything like the way they are shown in the Series, though for some I imagine that is a bonus, no BL or HH fluff ruining them (So no 'Decimation' Peturabo or 'Autist' Lion.)

Weapon patterns aren't like armour patterns. Armour is issued based on tactical role and technology level. Newer recruits have newer armour typically, while boarding parties have iron armour because its stronger to the front.

Weapons however are derived from the forge world the weapon was created on. So you can have almost any combination of weapon and armour. As far as timeline of pattern creation is concerned, theres not much to go on, but bolters replaced volkites as the heresy went on, o its safe to assume you can use any pattern without worrying.

>absurd cheap shot
He apologized in advance, Curze shouldn't have tried to provoke him and then just stood there like an idiot when it worked.

Also, am I crazy, or is Curze's exact fighting ability really wonky? He can fight the Lion and be winning even after getting impaled, and go toe to toe with the Lion and Guilliman together at their best, but a rabid Vulkan flattens him. What's going on there?
>>
>>44709696
-STOP-
Hammertime!
>>
>>44709696
With the Lion and Guilliman, he was very much in his element. A city in panic and chaos, lots of alleyways and buildings. With the Lion, it was much more of an open fight. That said I'm sure the particular aspect of Curze's shattered mind that was in control at the time would influence this as well.
>>
>>44709466
To be fair, the DSM V has a far narrower definition than the old DSM IV did. So you should start seeing fewer false positives.
>>
>>44709696
Well, I would think that its because both Guilliman and the Lion were trying to protect themselves from Konrad's claws where Vulkan was trying just to beat the ever-loving shit out of him, and wouldn't die.

Like when the Lion was trying to fight Konrad with Guilliman, the Lion took more of a beating than Guilliman because Guilliman had a shield basically; Konrad was dancing around the Lion's sword like it was nothing and using its clumsiness of defense to stab the shit out of the lion, putting him off balance as he tried to defend himself.

Vulkan on the other hand, literally took those claws through his brainpan and healed so fast that he turned around around and hit Konrad so hard he flew through a building wall.

So, basically it was Vulkan's regeneration that let him just take it. He literally had no fear of Konrad's claws, which Konrad had used against his other two brothers to hurt them.
>>
>>44709696
I too am confused about Curze's fighting ability.

Corax noted that Curze had never been particularly adept at combat but was almost beaten by him at Istavaan (Corax's subconsciously holding back or something?)

I think the Vulkan book is just a bit too eager to tout his horn. Him being the strongest primarch, a perpetual and able to kill Curze when weakened and injured.
>>
>>44709851
Kek. That is about how it went. On what logic did Curze decide that the important part of "huge-ass hammer with a teleporter in the hilt" is "teleporter?" Boy wan't all there.

>>44709883
>>44709921
Something to do with how applicable his fighting style is, you figure? El'Jonson and Guilliman fight like rational people who want to live, letting Curze set the pace as long as he has momentum, while Vulkan just wants him to die and isn't feeling any fear, so none of Curze's usual tricks work? That seems rational. Saw a theory about Curze's effectiveness relating to whether or not his prescience was working at any moment, which seems plausible but probably not what the writers were going for.
>>
>>44710180
>Something to do with how applicable his fighting style is, you figure?

Well, its a combination of that and Vulkan not being able to die. It wouldn't have mattered how psycho Vulkan was if he stayed dead, but there aren't many cc fighting styles that can stop someone that doesn't die.

I mean at that point I think it would take Angron hacking Vulkan apart piece by piece. Which raises the interesting idea of those two fighting.
>>
>>44710258
>It wouldn't have mattered how psycho Vulkan was if he stayed dead, but there aren't many cc fighting styles that can stop someone that doesn't die.

That is a not-insignificant edge, there. Actually, given how Perpetuals work, would Angron decapi-membering Vulkan (assuming he could, that would be quite the brawl) require someone to stick the pieces back together, stop him until his head grows a new body, or result in all of the pieces growing new bodies? I mean, they can regenerate from blood spills, can't they? Is there some part that takes priority?
>>

Curze did nothing wrong man
>>
>>44710441
I don't really understand this either.

Curze said that he had tried cutting off Vulcan's head didn't he? How do perpetuals get back?

Also, if there's one thing that annoys me about the HH books it's that the writers are so inconsistent with how strong the primarch's healing factors are.
>>
>>44709921
This + Curze wanted to be killed by Vulkan, at least before he managed to hit the atmosphere and went batshit
>>
>>44710559
Each Perpetual operates differently. Some reform a whole new body, others regenerate like Vulkan. Some just feel pain but simply don't die. The Primarchs are the same. Their healing abilities are not uniform and vary by primarch.

Played Sigismund yesterday for the first time, fucker had 3 swarmed on his ass and probably could've taken care of them but my opponent did the smart thing and fed Sigi a bike squad so a Bloodthirster could pulp him with the D but I fucking loved how it took almost 3 turns of combat and 4 units to kill one of mine with Sigi wiping out a bike squad and a juggerlord with khornedogs.

Shit was cash as fuck, still lost the game but it was awesome so here's another list to toy with Sigismund!

1750pts

Sigismund [Pride of the Legion]

Tactical Squad [15 marines, CCW/BP/Bolter]

3x Veteran Squads [10 marines, Sniper]+Rhino

2x Vindicators [Machine Spirit]

Devastator Squad[5 Missile launchers]

Bunker [Escape Hatch, Ammo dump]

Sigi goes with the tacticals into the bunker and jumps out turn one to fury something dead and then assault next turn
>>
>>44706606
>>44706476

Templar and Sigismund go in the Land Raider, Apothecary joins the blob to make them more immovable from an objective, Heavy Support squad benefits from IF Tank Hunters, Vet Squads benefit from +1 BS to with two HBs a piece, the Contemptors come with the BaC set and I guessed that they'd be a better addition than deep striking Terminators. I'm working with what I have for now, but long term I can see myself buying one or two of the fancy Forgeworld tanks.

you have sunk almost 900 points on a challange master, his mediocre retinue and the only tank in your army.

Any player worth half a damn will destroy the LR first opportunity which will leave sigismund and the templars standing about awkwardly while they are shot off the board.

As a separate point I don't think Sigismund is ever really worth it desu. If you put him with templars then you're wasting his AP2 or wasting their AP3 and if you put him with terminators then he faces the problems of either not DS-ing, the above mentioned AP waste.

IMO the only possible unit to place Sig in is powerfist/thunder hammer terminators in a spartan, chuck in a primus medicae and you've got quite a nice (if very expensive) deathstar.

imagine Sig leading a unit of Suzerains

Formations won't be coming to Age of Darkness. In the update to the Age of Darkness ruleset that is included in the (relatively) new Taghmata book FW made a point of stating that formations specifically and battle-forged/unbound army rules generally have no place in the AoD expansion.

What Mechanicum strategies do you consider Op out of curiosity? Castellan spam got a very large need although tank spam (particularly using the Ordo Reductor Matrix of Ruin) could be pretty obnoxious. That said graviton has haywire and Mechanicum tanks generally can't get ceramite so Astartes do still have answers to those builds.

What do you mean how? The escape hatch essentially allows a deathstar unit to infiltrate, something that's either a party trick of specific Legions or applied to select (and not deathstar) units. It's a huge advantage at little cost.

The only units in AoD with D weapons are LoW's - knights and superheavy tanks. They don't fly, and they have restrictive rules and points costs. A Bloodthirster is OP at this stage of the HH.

4.5, you get the point across, but you could use some practice on paint control; look at the area on the top of the head where the metal plate meets the skin, and around the smaller metal fixtures on the legs, you should really work to try and neaten up after you put down your colors.

>The only units in AoD with D weapons are LoW's
The dude costs almost as much as a Knight even before he takes any upgrades, has essentially no shooting capability, attacks at I1, can't stomp, his wings only give him disadvantages except for the 12" normal movement (which Knights have too), takes a HQ slot which are limited to 3 (you can get 2 Knights, or most other LoW, for one slot in HH) so there's barely any difference there, and is so easily killed (compared to a Knight) that I wonder if you're just trolling.

Double Kheres mortis is great in city fights while CCW/Kheres offers good coverage elsewhere. especially in an anvillus. I haev yet to try out chainfist/ccw with double grav in a pod but other XIX swear by them.

What the fuck did you say about the Lion, you little servitor? Lion El'Jonson graduated top of his class in monster hunting and has been involved in numerous secret raids on his own home planet, and has over 300 confirmed team-kills. He is trained in autistic warfare and is the prime primarch-puncher in the entire Imperium of Man. Your chapter is nothing to him but another group of friendlies to team-kill, and he will wipe them out with savant-like precision the likes of which hasn't been seen since the Great Crusade. You think you can get away with saying things like that over the webway? Think again, heretic. As we speak I am contacting The Rock and your fortress-monastery is being traced right now so you better prepare for the Unforgiven, heretic. The non-codex-compliant Unforgiven that'll team-kill the pathetic little thing you call your chapter. You're fucking dead, traitor. Lion El'Jonson could be anywhere inside The Rock at anytime, and he can kill you in over seven hundred ways, and that's just with his flowing mane. Not only is he extensively trained in the use of hair-care products, but he can also slay a Great Unclean One with a single smile from his pearly white incisors. If only you could have known what holy retribution your little "loyalist" heresy was about to bring down upon you, maybe you would have held your fucking tongue. But you couldn’t, you didn’t, and now you’re paying the price, you Chaos-tainted Fallen. I will spam plasma all over you and you will drown in it. You’re fucking dead, heretic.

I just realized I'm a mix of 40kid and a poorfag. I was looking at alternative ways to transport my list with custom-built Sigismund and custom-built Templars other than a Land Raider...and found myself on the Forgeworld website at checkout. $100 bucks for a Dreadclaw and $200 bucks for a Spartan. I love this setting, I love the armies, I love this community and reading this general so much more than the 40k one, but I honestly can't imagine paying 60 bucks extra for a sexier Drop Pod, or 150 bucks extra for a sexier Land Raider. I've decided to keep my army mostly plastic and conversions for now, and can't wait til I can afford these beauties later.

Sorry for the rant. I'm getting worked up/excited over toy soldiers.

So, I need someone with a couple of levels in DA fluff to tell me if my idea is shit or not-shit.

I've been wanting to use Cypher in 40k and start playing HH, so I was thinking: why not snag a copy of B@C and a DA conversion pack, and make a 30k DA army that will also be Cypher's Chosen in 40k (pre-heresy DA paint scheme and all)?

it's shit, isn't it?
>>
>>44729216

You know what would make CSM chosen better? If they had the Chosen SR from 30k and could all eat challenges. That combined with Champion of Chaos would make for a badass escort for an HQ.

Are breacher marines (or any of their unique variants) worth it outside Zone Mortalis?

I really like how they look, but I'd want them to be as useful as they are cool - not sure about special weapons, but I'd guess it gives them a bit more versatility

Ideally this would be in a Death Guard force, but in general is fine if there's not much experience playing them in DG

You've got 3 options:

-DA Upgrade pack (cheap, but boring)

- FW Stuff (expensive, and the heads are more knight-like, so they look weird on BaC)

After priming them black I put on a layer of dark grey, followed by a drybrushed layer of medium grey and that is followed by moderate highlights of bright grey.

I paint the cables, bolters and other open mechanical areas with Citadel's the Fang.

I put on metal colours where I need it.

I use crimson red for the red parts.

After all this I wash with Army Painter Dark Tone once. After they dry I put on another wash of Dark Tone on the Fang areas to achive more black effect.

After this I highlight the metal parts. Smooth out some too dark grey areas with a mix of dark and medium grey and I brigthen the red parts with some more crimson red.

For the wolf crest I I'm mix in a brightest red with the crimson to make it more vibrant.

Then I finish them off by painting the eyes with a white base, then I put Citadel Averland Sunset and top them off with a wash of Citadel Casandora Yellow.

I also highlight the brass with copper.
>>
>>44730218
As for time spent on them if I don't take the wash drying into account an hour or two each. It depends on how much I decide to smooth out the detailes.

Yes they were. They were oaths of moment. Similarly the chaplain's black armor and skull helm were also around, but had a different meaning. In a way it's very true to real religions, where paraphernalia simply takes on a different meaning when the religion changes.
>>
>>44730060
>>44730166

The issue with the DA sets are all the mk6 and mk 7 bits which are predominant on 40k sprues. With the robe over the kneepads its no big deal but add the helmets and all..
That said, there's so many DA bits out there I am sure it's possible to come up with enough variation that fits with the mkIV sets. The frightening thing is how much you might have to throw away.
>>
>>44730698

Yeah my chinaman (coolcast) has been pretty decent. He's a little pricier but frankly you get what you pay for with chinaman. Armillus came out great besides his head (I just used a non helmeted head from BaC, almost literally the same) which I didn't feel like performing surgery on

>>
>>44730166

>And by remembering that unless you want both Lorgar and Daemon allies in one list, you can happily ignore the Rite of War
How come? I've never seen Daemons mentioned outside "the Dark Brethren".
>>
>>44730722
That's more complex
WB always had chaplains and BA always had wardens similar idea
The spread of chaplains was only after nicea partly to monitor the ex librarians and coincidentally spread the chaos lodges/ act against the primarchs
BA just kept their wardens but added the skull
Wolves already had the wolf priests and some others didn't bother with them - I don't recall any amongst the traitor legions strangely not even sons of Horus

are any of the audiobooks decent?

>>
>>44730821
30k is going to be painful on the wallet, yeah. But everyone who's moving over from any other GW game (and most other studios too, desu) will be used to that fact. Still there's a little cherry on top.
Me, I'll just order most of the resin from china. Balance it out with authentic plastics cause I really don't want the hassle of going through the resin process with all that stuff. And order a little from FW to give them their due (and to have a clean conscience). If all is right, it should balance out to about the same as a 40k army done with love.
>>
>>44730867
There's nothing major in the audiobooks. Whether they are worth listening to is another matter.
>>
>>44730825
Erebus, Kor Phaeron and Zardu Layak all allow you to take Daemon allies if they are the Warlord. So when Lorgar is around to take command you would have to use Dark Brethren. In any other case select whatever Rite suits you.
