You lay awake as the morning light slowly creeps its way toward your eyes. Abigail sleeps soundly, laying halfway on top of you where she passed out last night.
You've been awake for about an hour now. Normally you would have gotten up and done something by now, but you're so incredibly sore. Even thinking about moving hurts.
The time when you do have to move is getting nearer though. Moriarty is beginning to circle, and it's only a matter of time before he starts demanding to be fed. On top of that, the sunbeam from the window has been inching towards your eyes ever since you first woke up.
You decide to preempt the inevitable, and carefully slide out from underneath Abigail. You can't help but grunt in pain as your muscles protest against your activities.
"Meer?" Moriarty says.
"Yeah... I'll be fine" You say, scratching his head as you sit up. "I just pulled my... everything"
Moriarty hops off the bed and walks out of the room, satisfied that you're well enough to feed him.
After taking a deep breath, you stand up. Your legs did not enjoy that. You feel like you ran across town carrying half a house.
As you leave, you stop at the door to regard Abigail. Now missing the warmth that you provided, she starts to curl up. You toss a blanket over her and peck her on the cheek before leaving the room.
"Okay..." You say. You're out of bed.
>Try to stretch this off
>See what healing magic can do for you
You lumber into the living room and attempt to stretch yourself out.
"Ow" You say, as a particular muscle expresses its discontent at your actions. "Ow, ow ow ow"
As you try to do a lunge to stretch out your legs, your right leg cramps up and you fall over.
Moriarty comes up beside you as you stand back up. "Mew" He says.
"Still good, thanks for asking" You reply.
"Yeah, that's enough stretching for now" You say. "Let's get you fed"
You limp into the kitchen on your cramped leg. You lack the capability to lift the cat-food bag as you are, so you just open the cupboard, tip it, and scoop out what you need.
"There you go, kitty-cat" You say.
Moriarty gets down to his breakfast, and you figure that you should do the same. Your arms do not like having to reach up to grab your cereal, and you damn near drop it on the way down. But thankfully you manage to pour it without issue, and before long you're eating.
"Yeah, cheerios are definitely better than that wheat stuff" You say.
After about a minute or so, you hear Abigail saunter up behind you. She plants her chin on your shoulder and drapes her arms over your chest.
"Saaaiiiiif" She whines. "My arms are spaghetti"
"Good morning to you too" You say.
"Feeeeeed meeee" She says.
"You'll have to get your head off so I can-"
"Ahhhhhh" She says, holding her mouth open.
You raise an eyebrow.
>Grab her something
You pick up a spoonful and dump out the excess milk. Then you bring it up to her mouth. She closes her lips over the spoon, and you pull it out.
"Fank-ou" She says.
"You're welcome" You say. "How are you feeling?"
She chews and swallows before answering. "Bwuhhhhhh" She says. "My everything hurts"
"Same boat" You say. "My back especially"
Abigail picks her chin up off your shoulder to look at your back, then puts it back down.
"Sorry" She says.
"For what?" You ask.
She lifts her hands up so you can see them... her fingernails are bloody.
"Oh" You say.
"At least no one can say I wasn't enjoying myself" She says.
"Yep" You say, bringing another spoonful of cereal up to your mouth.
It never makes it, as Abigail darts in and snatches it before you can eat it.
"Do I get to eat breakfast?" You ask.
"Gimme a few more" She says, after she's swallowed.
You roll your eyes and feed her another one, which she takes happily.
>Ask her if we can heal this off
>Ask about birth control
>Ask when you'll be going to her parent's
"So we can heal this off, right?" You ask.
"Dunno, haven't tried" She says. "Gimme a sec"
Abigail focuses, and you can kinda feel magic, but she recoils before anything happened.
"Yowch, what the hell happened there?" She asks.
"What's wrong?" You ask.
"My pathways are a mess" She says.
"That's... weird" You say.
Abigail lifts her head off your shoulder and walks over to a chair to sit down. Now that you can actually get a look at her, you notice what a mess she is.
Her lipstick is smeared, her mascara is everywhere, her hair is a mess, and she looks tired as hell. Maybe it's just that she's wearing your shirt like a nightgown, and the fact that you know why she's such a mess, but she still looks pretty hot.
She lays her arm down on the table and focuses, but after a second or so she winces in pain and breaks off.
"Does it hurt?" You ask.
"It's hot" She says. "Like there's friction"
"Any idea what might've caused it?" You ask.
"The only thing I can think of is that uhh... that 'game' we were playing" She says. "But there's no way it could've gone far enough to cause this kind of damage"
"We were going for a while" You say.
"That's true, but one of us would need to be able to withstand it for it to grow big enough to do this" She says.
"Then it's probably my fault..." You say.
"How?" She asks. "Do you have huge pathways or something?"
"Yes" You say.
"Oh..." She says. "Well... that's something you need to warn me about"
"I didn't know it had this kind of risk" You say.
"We can fix it, can't we?" You ask. "Jess fixed up mine when I first started learning"
"Probably" She says. "Later though, I've heard that it's a pretty extensive process"
"Yeah, not something you do when you have stuff to do" You say.
"So your pathways are still in good shape?" She asks.
"Yeah, nothing out of the ordinary" You say.
"Shit..." She says. "I should've guessed that playing feelers with a time mage would be risky..."
"Sorry. If I knew I would've warned you" You say.
"Don't worry about it. I don't think either of us were in that frame of mind last night anyway" She says.
You nod, and take another spoonful of cheerios. Chewing once, twice, stop.
Fuck. Now you remember what was bugging you last night.
"So... speaking of risks" You say. "I don't... uhh... how do I ask this"
"What?" She asks.
"Are you ahh... are you on the... pill?" You ask.
She gives you an incredulous look, but her expression slowly changes to shock.
"Shit" She says.
"That's not the response I was hoping for..." You say.
"You know, I did bring condoms" She says.
"And I have some around" You say. "But I do actually have to be wearing them for them to work"
"I could've sworn that you put one on..." She says.
"It probably wouldn't have helped" You say. "I wasn't about to stop and change it every five minutes..."
Abigail bites her thumb, looking distraught.
Looking down, you see her other hand clutching her stomach.
>Try to calm her down
>Try to come up with alternatives
>Look on the bright side
Hoo boy, traditionalist white German parents find out that their Aryan daughter got knocked up by a brown boy out of wedlock?
Shit is about to go down if this ain't a false alarm.
"Hey" You say, putting a hand on her shoulder.
Abigail jumps ever so slightly at your touch.
"It'll be fine" You say.
"Y-yeah" She says.
"Isn't there a pill for this kind of thi-"
"Right!" She says, as she shoots out of her chair... and then falls right over.
You stifle your laughter and lean down to help her up.
"You okay?" You ask.
"Ow..." She says. "Yeah, thanks"
On her feet, and a little more calm, she walks over to where her purse is. She picks it up and heads into the bathroom.
While you wait for her to come out, you finish your breakfast and decide to pour a bowl for her as well.
When she comes out, she smiles weakly.
"All good?" You ask.
"I came prepared" She says.
"At least one of us did..." You say.
She still looks nervous, so you stand up and hug her.
"Hey" You say. "It'll be alright"
"I know..." She says.
"And on the bright side, if the worst happens then a marriage to Harvey is out of the question" You say.
Abigail presses her cheek into your chest. "I think a marriage to anyone but you would be out of the question..." She says. "But... would it really be 'the worst'?"
>I think I could handle it
>I can't be a father
>We'll cross that bridge when we get to it
>>I think I could handle it
We could teach the kid all sorts of things, like how to fire a gun.
But, yeah, hopefully when he's not a teenager.
Well, 18 is technically an adult, but regardless.
"I think I could handle it" You say, letting yourself chuckle. "I'd need a new job... and probably a bigger place..."
"Don't laugh, it's not funny!" She says.
You pull back and kiss her.
"Relax, it'll be fine" You say.
She looks down. "You sound so sure" She says.
"Besides, we have to survive the near future before we can think about the far future" You say, holding her close and swaying in a sort of impromptu dance. "And when the time comes... if nothing happens, great. We keep on going and maybe someday we'll be ready to actually do this. If it turns out that there is a... baby... then we'll handle it"
"You mean that?" She asks.
"I do" You say.
She looks up at you and smiles, bringing a hand up to stroke your cheek. "I love you" She says.
"I love you too" You reply.
She taps your cheek with her palm. "But you need to put some pants on" She says, giving your butt a squeeze.
"And we both need to shower" You say.
Abigail lifts up her arm, wincing as she does so, and sniffs. She grimaces as she catches a whiff.
"Yeah" She says. "Shower"
Alright, a warm shower seems to have done some good for your sore muscles. You still hurt, but it's lessened a bit.
It did nothing for the numerous bloody scratch marks on your back, but you'll probably have to actually regenerate those.
"Feel better?" You ask Abigail.
"A little" She says, as she shaves her legs. "I still don't like not being able to use magic..."
"You can rely on me for that" You say. "And it'll take a bit more than a warm shower to fix stressed pathways"
Abigail giggles. "If only" She says.
You smile and kiss her on the head. "So when are we going to your parent's house?" You ask.
"Uhhh... what time is it now?" She asks.
You leave the bathroom and find your watch. "It's almost noon" You say.
"Jesus, it's that late already?" She asks. "How long were we in the shower?"
"Pretty long" You say. "Are we late?"
Abigail sighs. "No" She says. "They expect us around 3..."
"So we have plenty of time" You say.
"I still need to get ready and make sure I can walk properly before we leave" She says.
"Think I can help with that?" You ask.
"I dunno. Remember what happened last time you used regeneration magic?" She asks.
"To fix a broken bone" You say. "I can do flesh wounds"
"Really?" She asks.
"Yeah" You say. "I was fixing up some minor stuff on the fly when I was fighting Claire"
"Show me" She says.
"Right now?" You ask.
"Turn around and fix the scratches" She says.
"Oh, alright... I guess" You say, turning around as she requested.
>Taking the first 3 rolls and adding them up
You simply focus, moving your mana into your back and use your force of will to close up the wounds. You try to be a bit more delicate than you were with your fingers the other night, since that may be where you screwed up.
"And again..." She says.
"What?" You ask.
"Just like with basic body magic..." She says. "The way you learn things so quickly is... scary"
"At least I'm on your side" You say.
"No, you don't get it" She says. "That shit took me months to work out, and I'm considered above average. You didn't even know that regenerative magic existed until like a week ago, and you can already mend wounds on parts of your body that you can't see"
"Hmm" You say. "I can't really explain that... but..."
"But?" She asks.
"It almost..." You pause, looking for the right way to put it. "It feels like I've learned this all before, and I'm just remembering it rather than learning it again"
"That's... weird" She says.
"It's not just with magic either..." You say. "There have been other times where that's happened too"
"Like when?" She asks.
"Like... uhh..." You say. "The first time we... y'know..."
"You mean that first morning that we... spent... together?" She asks.
"Yeah..." You say. "It kinda felt like I'd done... that... before"
Abigail looks a little uncomfortable. "Is that all?" She asks.
>Tell her about that dreams
>Yeah that's all
"I've been having these dreams too..." You say.
"Weird dreams?" Abigail asks, looking worried all of a sudden. "What kind?"
"Just... weird" You say. "Is it really that important?"
"Dreams are important" She says, switching gears and going full teacher mode. "Sometimes the subconscious mind knows or remembers things that the conscious mind doesn't. Often when we remember a dream, it's because something important was shown to us"
"I'm not sure if it was all that important..." You say.
"I'll be the judge of that" She says. "What were they about?"
"I'd rather be sitting for this" You say. "I'll let you finish up here first. When you're done, I'll be in there"
She smiles. "Okay, I'll be out in a minute then" She says.
You nod, and leave the bathroom. You first take a minute to throw some clothes on, and then go sit on the couch.
Moriarty hops into your lap and curls up, purring as you scratch his head.
What you told Abigail wasn't entirely true. Sitting or standing, it doesn't really matter. What you really need is a minute to collect your thoughts, and decide just how much of these things you want to let her know...
>Give her the full story
>Leave out the sex
>Leave out the murder
>For those who want a refresher, the dream in question can be found here: http://pastebin.com/Qwv8KjKe
If you really want help with this, then she needs to know the full story... as much as you'd really rather not tell your girlfriend about the dream sex you had with just about every girl your know...
And some that you don't...
You groan and cover your face with your hands, causing Moriarty to mewl in annoyance at the fact that you're no longer petting him.
"Yeah, yeah" You say, going back to scratching his head. "Tell me Moriarty, do cats get fucked up dreams too?"
"Meee" Mori replies.
"I thought not" You say, as you lean back into the couch.
"Talking to your pets is a bad habit" Abigail says. You peer over at her and see that she opted to just put your shirt back on rather than get dressed.
"This is different" You say. "Moriarty understands me, right buddy?"
"Mew" Moriarty says.
Abigail giggles as she sits down next to you. "Alright" She says. "Are you ready?"
"Yeah" You say. "Probably..."
"Are you going to start?" She asks.
"I'm still kinda deciding where to start..." You say.
"How about from the beginning?" She asks.
"You may not like the beginning" You say.
"Try me" She says.
"Okay..." You say. "So when the dream started, I was lying in a bed... with Claire... and we were... uhh... y'know..."
"Hoo boy" She says.
"I told you that you wouldn't like it" You say.
"No, I'm good" She says. "Continue"
You finish telling Abigail what happened in the dream. Well, you get to where the dream ended at least.
"What happened when the mask disappeared?" She asks.
"Nothing, the dream ended before that" You say.
"What? How?" She asks. "Did you wake up?"
"No, Safi showed up here" You say. "That was the day that I took off from school, because Jess had set my pathways up to repair themselves. Safi took off from school early that day because she wasn't feeling well, and she came here because I told her she could come by and play with Moriarty"
"How did that change anything?" Abigail asks.
"She came in and decided to sleep next to me" You say. "I guess that her being there changed the dream"
"What did it change to?" Abigail asks.
"It was a memory from when we were kids" You say. "We used to climb up this mountain near our village every morning to watch the sun rise. I had a dream of the first time we ever went up"
"Oh" She says. "The whole 'wonder twin' resonance thing must have taken precedence over the dream you were having"
"I guess so" You say. "Thank god for that. I don't think I want to know how that dream would have ended"
"I'm kind of curious" She says.
"Seriously?" You ask.
"Yeah" She says. "There could be something important at the end"
"Seriously?" You ask. "Is revisiting a dream even a thing?"
"It's possible" She says. "It requires a bit of mind magic, and a lot of trust"
>Ask for more details
>We should get ready
>Ask what she thinks about what you told her already
"Interesting..." You say. "So what would this entail?"
"Well, if we were to perform it..."
Abigail explains the process to you. Basically, the two of you form a connection and then go to sleep. Except only you would be truly sleeping, she would essentially have free reign inside your head. From the depths of your mind, she would have to pull the dream out.
After that, you would both experience the dream, and then wake up once it finishes. You would remember it as a normal dream, a flighty sort of memory that's hard to get a decent grip on. But she would remember it normally, and could give you a better analysis.
All in all, it would take about an hour without fuckups. It's currently 12:30.
"Soooo?" She asks.
"So... what?" You ask. "You're not thinking of actually trying it, are you?"
"You've gotten my curiosity all piqued" She says. "I don't wanna be left hanging"
"Are you sure it's a good idea?" You ask.
"We have plenty of time" She says. "I think it's worth a shot"
"Can you manage that kind of magic with your busted pathways?" You ask.
"It's not much" She says. "There's only a tiny bit of magic to it, and I wouldn't need to keep it up for long"
She seems to think she can do it... and you have to admit that you're a little curious yourself...
>Let's try it
>I'd honestly rather not
If it takes an hour, then you'll be done by 1:30... leaving you another hour to get ready and get out. That's plenty of time.
"Let's try it" You say.
"Really?" Abigail asks with a big smile on her face.
"Yeah" You say. "I'm kinda curious too"
Abigail hugs you.
"So, how do we do this?" You ask.
"Already starting" She says. "Just lay back"
You feel her making a connection, and do as she says. Abigail goes down with you, laying at your side with her arms still wrapped tightly around you.
You feel a slight jolt of warmth, and a strange pressure at the back of your head. Without thinking, you clench your teeth and try to fight it off.
"Just relaaaaaax" Abigail coos in your ear. "You have to trust me, remember?"
Shit, that's right... you calm yourself down with some effort. Then you turn your focus to letting her in, instead of keeping her out. There's a fairly obvious sensation as she breaks through. It feels like a membrane around your mind being broken, allowing a gentle warmth to pour over your brain.
It feels... good. Almost instantly you feel yourself fighting off sleep.
"Don't fight it" Abigail reminds you. "Just relax"
You take a deep breath, and let your eyes close.
"There we go" Abigail says, as she kisses you on the cheek. "Sweet dreams"
You fall asleep.
You awaken once more in that unfamiliar bed... only it's less unfamiliar now. You recognize it this time as the bed from Claire's room. The sheets and curtains are nicer than they were when you visited, but it's definitely the same bed, in the same room.
You look around to see if there's anything else you might recognize, until a finger on your chin gently turns your head upwards to the girl with you.
"Something wrong?" Claire asks.
"No, it's nothing" You say.
Claire smiles seductively. "Good..." She says, continuing where she had apparently left off before this dream began. "I'd hate to think that you were distracted"
You push her down by her throat, just as you did before. "Perfectly focused" You say.
The dream continues as it did before, only this time you recognize more of the places and some of the people. You end up with Tasha, and even Mila. There's still one or two people you don't recognize, though.
The places include things like Harvey's mansion, the school, etc. You manage to figure out what some of the places you don't recognize might be, based on what's there and who you're with. A few places like Yui's apartment (where everything looks... sanitized, and maybe even fireproof), and Tasha's house (Which looks more like a temple) are kind of obvious.
But eventually the dream ends, just as it did before.
The mask dwindles, and eventually disappears. Your final death comes at the hands of Kyla... you aren't certain if that means anything important, but it's worth noting.
Then everything goes dark, and you can see nothing but the floor... a floor made up of billions of hands, which writhe and roil in the pale, red moonlight...
Up above, the moon comes into view. 100 hands reach for it, and while a few of them get cut off, the majority of them stop and leave only 2 hands reaching upward.
Along the ground, several hands are cut off as well. You notice it, even though it doesn't seem important.
As the two hands near the moon, one is cut off, and the other touches its surface. The world is illuminated in red, and the hands begin reaching once more.
The hands that were severed do not heal. Instead, they begin to bleed.
You watch as more of the hands are cut off, both those that are reaching and those that are not. And eventually, the moon gets touched, and the world turns red, and the hands reach once more.
And again, the severed hands do not heal.
The process repeats, again and again, until the severed hands begin to outnumber the un-severed hands. The blood that pours from them begins to fill this space, rising more quickly with each repeat.
The moon itself recoils from the blood, and the hands must reach further and further each time.
The blood rises to the point where you can no longer stand.
And you can't swim.
You try to hold your head above the surface, but the floor opens up beneath you. You fall down, beneath the arms. Down to the bodies they belonged to.
The faces stare at you, even as they drown. Some of them shout accusations, some of them beg for forgiveness, some simply weep and ask why.
A hand on your throat surprises you. You breathe in, filling your lungs with blood.
You push the other you off, and scramble to get back out of the crowd. You step on the people around you, even as they accuse you, even as they beg for forgiveness, even as they ask why.
You reach towards the moon. The last, un-severed hand in an ocean of bleeding stumps.
They are all dead. They cannot be saved. But if you can just reach...
The moon disappears behind dark clouds.
The dead drag you down to them.
You are one of them now.
This is how it was meant to be.
Your head shoots up, and Abigail just barely avoids getting a headbutt to the nose.
You try to respond, and ask er why she's screaming. But instead you start coughing. You hold a hand over your mouth to cover it, and as the coughing fit subsides the hand comes away bloody.
It's bloody, but at least it's still there...
"Do I need to take you to a hospital?" Abigail asks.
"No... I'm good" You say, pressing your clean palm to your forehead to try and stem the intense pain you feel there.
"No you're not!" She says. "I woke up after the mask broke, but you didn't! And then when I tried to wake you, you started shaking, and then you started bleeding, and I tried to keep you from choking on it but-"
"Abigail!" You say firmly. "I'll be alright"
"You aren't seeing what I'm seeing" She says.
Abigail pulls out her phone and turns on the front camera, showing you an image of yourself.
There's blood coming out of your nose, which is at least kind of normal. But it's also coming out of your ears, which is more worrying. You're absolutely drenched in sweat, and your eyes are bloodshot.
"Just what the hell happened?" She asks.
"It was... the dream kept going after that" You say. "There were hands... and I..."
You clench your eyes shut and press harder on your forehead as the pain doubles. As you try harder to remember, it gets even worse.
"Saif, leave it be" Abigail says.
"No, I can-"
"Saif" She says again. This time she places her hands on your cheeks and forces you to look at her. The look of intense worry is enough to make you stop. "Leave it be"
You let out a long, shaky breath. "Okay"
That's all for tonight!
Next thread will probably be sometime during the week. I'm hoping that I can run more often, now that things have calmed down on this end.
As always I'll be sticking around for a bit, in case anyone has questions/suggestions.
Fuck mate, fuck. I don't know if that description was beautiful or fucked up.
