TRON IS KING Edition

I wish they reprinted cycling lands.
I'm gonna keep dredgeposting and you can't stop me
>Is there any chance [modern staple] will ever go down in price?
don't play stompy if you want a change of pace, it's exactly the same as GR aggro
Tokens used to be my go-to reasonably priced deck that's fun, interesting and pretty good but holy shit those IoK prices.
you are right, but also salty
Living End is also quite vulnerable to GY disruption. Theoretical Hypergenesis decks in Modern if it was legal can also drop in a Progenitus, Griselbrand, Terastodon. On a lesser note it can also put in a Deciever Exarch and a Splinter Twin.
>RG tron players aren't even capable of replying
It'll pack in shit like Grisly Salvage and that Satyr that dumps creatures to your yard. I recall seeing a list with Craterhoof Behemoths and Unburial Rights during mid-Khans block that died out fast. Its pretty cool but Unburial Rights is way too slow.
The lack of Ichorids, 1 mana discard outlets and Cabal Therapy hurt it though
>reprint cycling lands
I wish Shadows of Innistrad would have that. I can see Cycling making a comeback along with Madness, but that's just me daydreaming. It will truly make an impact on the format as Loam decks will now be a real thing
What would you use to sac to DR though? You got Narcomoebas and I guess Bloodghast could work
Then you have the lack of drawing power with no cards like Breakthrough or Bazaar, so you get to use Faithless Looting and what else? And as you said, no Cabal Therapy
I'd never see a DR unban coming because dredge is boo boo mean unfun but I don't even think it'd be that good in modern
Hypergenesis is just so much more robust, you have no idea.
LE gets demolished by a lot of incidental sources, requires you to sit there cycling for three turns, and doesn't have the absolutely horrid nonbo of drawing tons of cards when your game plan requires you to have specific cards in your deck and not your hand.
Disenchants are great in terms of versatility, but I usually find it hard to spare two mana the turn before going off.
I think most of my sideboard cards are one mana even, but it changes a lot so I'm not sure right now.
John Taylor misplay vs Amulet Bloom, giving him an untapped land with his ghost quarter which enables him to play another amulet and push out titan this turn instead of next one.
Meanwhile, chat is circlejerking how op the deck is.. oh man, why are so many people so fucking retarded
True, it seems a lot of the complaints with Bloom is player's not knowing how to deal with it, or not wanting to deal with it even, if you look at people's deck lists.
It looks like everyone's already anticipating a ban, but I could see Bloom jumping the gun, which could be very interesting for the modern meta, or precipitate a historical emergency ban in response to player complaints.
Sadly yes. Its incredible how everyone is raging about the SCG Cincinnati perfomance, disregarding the fact that Bobby was probably one of the luckiest player in the tournament with how many nut hands he drew. Also completly disregarding all the fucking misplays his opponents were doing.
Most people, especially almost all of the pro's only want it banned because it forces them to play differently.
Thanks someone understands me. The deck is just completly different from other decks, but no one actually wants to think differently so they cry about the turn 2 titans that maybe happen 10% of the time.
I really want to trust wizards, I hope they don't ban it. But I think even if they didn't want to ban it, they have to because all of the community outrage and everyone talking nonstop how ridicoulus the deck is.
The community should suck it up. I really hate this generation of MtG players. If this were a fighting game, the devs would tell them to suck it up and get good if it isn't obviously and factually broken
The thing with eggs is, it took so fucking long.
I really really hope they don't ban it. Would restore my trust in WotC. But imagine the outlash if they didn't ban it. Knowing reddit and the kind of users there are, there would be probably thousands "jumping ship" like with the judge supsension thing
Its good against aggro, with the exception of Merfolk because of Spreading Seas and unblockability. It has the capability to end games if it manages to draw into Magma Vortex and Life from the Loan. It plays around traditional GY hate well, but struggles against continuous effects like Scaveging Ooze and RIP.
It's problematic matchups are combo decks game 1, but can manage to catch up game 2 with more Raven's Crime postboard to strip their hand senseless, and Tron due to it not giving a shit and packing MD Relics.
>people actually think wizards won't trigger ban things
Only the last match was on camera.
Taylor had a glistener elf, 2 lands and hierarch. His enemy had 2 poison counters.
The taps his dryad arbor for mana, fucking dismembers it, protects his elf with the 2 mana protection spell (forgot the name) against the enemy voice of resurgence and with the dismember and dryad he has enough cards in the graveyard to cast become immense for the win
>waiting for XMage to add the last cards from OGW so I can start testing my shitty brew
I actually play Elves and my tech against the usual fast damage based board wipes is Mark of Asylum. I've considered running Dauntless Escorts in the side too.
I've also been really tempted to go an old old route involving Ant Queen and Eldrazi Monument
man I had to run outside and see what was fucking with my dog, what happened in the token vs twin match on stream? the fucking twitch chat is full of football fags talking about sportball or some shit that isn't MTG
You just have to race. Don't have time to try and setup your tokens to be bigger. Just have to go full aggro. It's not a matter of if they can hit tron but a matter of when. And when they do just pray that they don't drop an Ugin and wipe the board for 0.
I actually have some time against Ugin and O-stone but when they do blow up it blows up hard. Funnily enough there's no RG Tron in my area but there is some Mono U Tron(I even play U Tron myself) so there's usually not a super fast Ugin all the time.
yeah, a stray cat was trying to eat his food. he wont bite anything alive (old bird dog) so he was just barking at it really loud while it ignored him. I slapped it with a broom and ran it off.
These guys got mad at me when I ran 4 IoK and 4 Thoughtsieze. They made me use 3 of each.
At least I can sell an IoK now.
Anyway I knocked off Ugin twice with TS. At the time I had just bought and was testing Surgical Extraction so I removed it from the opponent's deck and barely managed to squeeze out two wins out of 6 games. No sideboard being used by either side.
What a coincidence I also play U Tron. My decks are Elves, U Tron and Stompy. My meta has 2 RG Tron players, 2 Bloom players and a lot of fair decks like Grixis and BGx. I get to see a lot of pyroclasm, and BGx tries to board in Damnation which seldom shows up, and they get blown up by Chameleon Colossus
Coming home from my LGS' Montly Modern.
48 people, went 7-1 with Boros Burn splashing Black and Green.
2-0 vs BW Eldrazi
0-2 vs Affinity
2-1 vs Naya Zoo
2-1 vs BW Tokens
2-1 vs MB Eldrazi
T8 2-0 vs Affinity
T4 2-1 vs Naya Burn
T2 2-0 vs UR Twin
The Eldrazi meme is real, at least 10 people playing different versions of that shit. The BW one is shit but the mono-black one made top 8.
I play U Tron, Elves, Ad Nauseam, BW Tokens, Protean Hulk combo and halfway building Wilt Leaf Abzan. I dunno something about amusing tier 2 decks just appeal to me. That and building decks that don't absolutely need Scalding Tarns, well with the exception of the Hulk deck but that's under reconstruction and has some proxies in it which is fine for casual play.
Oddly enough I don't face much Pyroclasms, mostly Anger of the Gods so that one extra turn can usually lead me to doing dumb things like Nettle+Heritage shenanigans into llanowars/mystics into a Collected Company and finding an E-Witness+Elf and then grabbing CoCo and still having just enough mana to cast it again somewhere around turn 2. Did this to my friend who plays Affinity and he's laughing and all bananas saying "Usually i'm the one to empty my hand first."
Yeah I like playing tier 2 decks. Most of the time they hold their own and have a pretty high chance of winning small tournaments, although in big tournies its usually a dice roll that you don't face a bad matchup and just accept it. Plus, tier 2 deck strategies are way more unique and fun than the tier 1 pillars have. They're funky, cool and fun
You run E.Witness? I'm having a hard time shoving her in my list. I run Gwb, splash white for forge tenders and black for Shaman of the Packs. I run 4 Dwynen Elites as they are value and enable broken turn 2s with turn 1 Heritage Druid. My toolbox critters are Spellskite, and depending on the meta, either MD burrenton, rec sage or revoker.
I don't like the affinity matchup desu. Game 1 is usually mine, but when those whipflares come in, and I don't have a chord or a Fracturing gust, I just fold
Yeah I probably could. Just lazy since they're in my Standard deck atm which i'm not playing for a while anyway since people caught wise to my trick in RG Landfall of a Valakut Predator that goes in unblocked then ends up as a 10/10 and double strikes before damage.
Is there some way to abuse this? It's pretty neat.
Notthing beats Tron so why even care.
If you beat Twin, Junxs and Aggros you can forfeir the Tron match and still top 8 the same way Tron forfeits the Burn match and still top 8s.
I want to crack a Tormod's crypt and then transfer control of that creature spell to my opponent while it is on the stack.
I don't know if I can though, and it would likely be too awkward and impractical to be useful.
My list is still a Gw list but i'm considering switching or adding in black. I'm at a constant war between Visionaries and Dwynen's Elite as to how many and what ratio I should have between the decks and whatnot. I do maindeck Rec Sage and Spellskite as well, seems like there's always a live target somewhere.
Against Affinity my only real problem is really just the flyers or an Inkmoth with cranial plating game 1. Game 2 i got Kataki, an extra copy of Rec Sage, Beast Within and Fracturing Gust. This is anecdotal but personally for me overall the one advantage i've found against Affinity game 1 is that you mulligan less hands on average.
>Notthing beats Tron
Tron beats Tron anon.
I run 3x Visionary and 4x Dwynen's Elite. The Elite just gives you pure value, even if you don't CoCo into nuts, casting multiple Elites or getting it through CoCo is really good, even better if you're going the beatdown route.
I run 2x Shaman of the Pack MD and usually board out at least 1 depending on the matchup. That thing just steals games where you hardcast Shaman of the Pack and chord into another; its scummy. It also gives you a way out vs decks that pack Worship.
Vs Affinity I board in Kataki, RecSages, Fracturing Gusts and Burrenton Forge Tenders. The manlands have proven to be troublesome time and time again, especially inkmoth and Playing. They just attack you from multiple angles game 2, from the threat of being whipflared, to Inkmoth+Plating that it's hard to keep up unless Chord comes out or you draw into hate
Because I want to beat Naya Burn and Affinity and that means not fetching for shocks other than Sacred G1 and not shocking for shocks other than Sacred G2-3 unless absolutely necessary.
It's worked so far, people keep bolting themselves to cast Atarka's Command and it's not worth it against anyone but Jund/Junk.
That's actually not it. You could end up with fast turn 2 kills(some old cases of turn 1 kills too) as well because very very very old mulligan rules allowed you to keep on doing a mulligan if you had no lands or all lands.
It was all entirely possible to get a Ball of Lightning, cast Blood Lust on it then Berserk it in the attack step on turn 2.
Posting infect list since everyone seems to play it, I've been tweaking it a bit so I want some advice based on anecdotes, ask about any decisions too
3 Become Immense
2 Breeding Pool
1 Temple Garden
1 Dryad Arbor
2 Stony Silence
2 Spell Pierce
I also have some might of old krosas, 2 more visons, another blessing, distortion strike, 1 more defiance, 2 more growth, and 3 monastery sieges to fiddle around with in the deck
>I'm getting tired of losing matches because of a single artifact hate sideboard card.
Don't be afraid of Whipflare too much, most lists usually only run 2. I actually have Bow of Nylea in my sideboard as well because nobody boards in enchantment/artifact hate against Elves. Sometimes I hold onto Beast Within, play Dismember or wait to Chord up Kataki once they've tapped out for everything so they can't react with a Galvanic Blast on it. It's not easy but you've got good plans against them after sideboarding. I actually run a singleton copy(it's either a singleton copy or 2, can't remember right now) of Stirring Wildwood to block most Inkmoth Nexus attacks and to tap for G/W. I have considered running Dwynen Gilt Leaf Daen just because she's an Elf lord, survives Anger/Pyro and has reach but the 4cmc doesn't allow her to be CoCo'd at all.
In my opinion Dwynen isn't really cut out for the deck. For one she costs 4 so CoCo can't hit her, not to mention the stock elves list is tight barring Visionary vs Elite numbers and silver bullets.
As for Bow of Nylea, Interesting as fuck tech, will probably try too
Bow of Nylea hits the Inkmoth and is great against Burn. Also any games that go long and you start dropping +1/+1 counters, gaining 3 life or just restocking your library again. Also all your attacking dudes have deathtouch so what do you care if your Elvish Mystic trades with a bigger threat?
How many Bows do you have in the SB?
This is my current setup
2x Kitchen Finks
2x Beast Within
2x Burrenton Forge Tender
2x Reclamation Sage
1x Kataki, War's Wage
1x Fracturing Gust
1x Chameleon Colossus
1x Phyrexian Revoker
So what do you guys think of Modern Death and Taxes? Like Eldrazi, it's putting up consistent results on MTGO and several lists have shifted to splashing black for discard and Dark Confidant. Anyone playing that deck?
I want to make EDH combos a thing in Modern because I'm a flamboyant faggot and have already had success with Sharuum Steel in Legacy.
What would be the best build for shit like Mike & Trike or Boonweaver+Blasting Station?
I had no problem trading away my wasteland stranglers and oblivion sowers a couple weeks ago. The deck has an absolutely unwinnable matchup against burn. I had some retard at FNM say something like, "How is a turn 3 5/8 not great?" as if burn, twin, or affinity cares about a 5/8 on the turn before they kill you. I can't wait for this stupid meme deck to die off so Eye of Ugin can return to the price it should be at, not 30 bucks a pop.
>so Eye of Ugin can return to the price it should be at, not 30 bucks a pop.
Lol, shit never goes back down once it's spiked.
Fist of Suns is still $4 when it's evident to everyone it wasn't worth even the $0.25 it was worth before it got scalped.
I'm not saying it won't be higher, but there are literally packs of MM2 still on shelves everywhere. The card is probably closer to 8 and I fully expect it to return to that after a month or so.
Pretty much. There's a couple cute things you can do like vampiric link an eidolon or process a rift bolt, but the only way that works is if they don't know the deck they're playing against.
Very good. It has anti deck searching shit to fuckup scrying and expedition map and Talia even stops the natural turn 3 no search Karn before they start ghost quartering their shit.
Heck half the deck's appeal is it's good against Tron.
I suppose void snare would be easier to pull off since my only nonartifact white source is cloudcrest lake, so either way I'm cutting myself one mana to go off on
Fucking $2-4 adarkar wastes, allied pain land reprint when
cracking boxes is a waste of money. buy booster boxes to draft with friends, not to chase cards. if you like ramp decks check out the deck called valakut, or maybe tooth and nail.
im mostly doing it for the experience of opening packs with a friend while growing my nonexistent collection, figured since im probably going to do it anyway i might as well ask about a set that could have some cool ramp type cards
they guy from >>44679048 is right. Dont make the same mistake ppl do when getting into the game.
Buy packs and draft them. You will learn to play the limited format and at the same time, start your collection. Sometimes you will get shitty rares that you will regret having in your shoebox.
I'm just speaking from personal experience because I regret blowing a few hundred on boxes/boosters when I got into the game. Return to ravnica is recent enough that a box shouldn't be crazy expensive and has some good stuff you might like.
Any suggestions? (Aside from running a less shit archetype)
>getting this mad over post formatting
Whats the over/under on getting enemy fetches reprinted next set? The battlelands seem like they were designed to be played with fetches, and switching from ally fetches to enemy fetches would change the way manabases look
I wouldn't count on it. I think R&D wanted to test these lands without the fetchlands to discourage 4C+ aberrations from current Standard.
But if Wizards REALLY wants the first spring block to sell, they WILL add something juicy. Personally hoping for Liliana of the Veil (which was meant to be included in M15 but was axed last minute).
>wotc needs something to sell SOI
>notices the spoiled demon with 'goyf'esque wording
>why not reprint 'goyf in SOI
People downplaying goyf have obviously never played in an actual tournament or played with one yourself. It's just efficient and provides a clock. U aren't exactly investing a lot of mana into it.
Tarmo need an answer most of the time it hit the battlefield. It preasures your opponent so much and if he eats the removal, you can land another goyf and keep the presure on them.
Wescoe wasn't playing "true" DnT (no flickerwisp, smiter and leige in the main) and his list would be expensive to buy because of the 4 Horizon Canopies. I would look at the mono white list that Top 8ed GP Copenhagen a while back.
My list is based on it:
Death and Taxes (Modern):
3 Dryad Militant
2 Kytheon, Hero of Akros
4 Leonin Arbiter
4 Thalia, Guardian of Thraben
3 Serra Avenger
1 Anafenza, Kin Tree Spirit
4 Blade Splicer
2 Aven Mindcensor
1 Mirran Crusader
Other Spells: 8
4 Aether Vial
4 Path to Exile
4 Ghost Quarter
2 Tectonic Edge
3 Burrenton Forge Tender
2 Rest in Peace
2 Kataki, War's Wage
2 Ethersworn Canonist
1 Mirran Crusader
1 Mark of Asylum
DnT has (roughly) good MUs against unfair decks (tron, infect, bloom), even against multi color fair decks (jund, grixis) and bad against mono color fair decks (merfolk, elves).
Personally I think it goes like this
Flooded Strand - Onslaught is better, pick up the Judge foil for Modern frame and shiny card
Polluted Delta - KtK looks just a bit better
Bloodstained Mire - Both are solid but Onslaught slightly edges it out for me
Wooded Foothills- Once again both are amazing, I like Onslaught a bit more but KtK is really good here. I own the KtK ones just because the border and the Judge foil is too expensive ;_;.
Windswept Heath - Judge foil is amazing here. If not getting the Judge just go for Khans because they are cheap and pretty good looking.
I love the old frames, but the onslaught Flooded strand is so bleak. I like that, but I also kind of like how the ktk one is colorful. I think the original polluted delta has sick art that's bleak as fuck, while the new one has the "fuckin evil tentacles or w/e" vibe going on and I just can't deal.
>If tokens keeps wining tomorrow Auriok Champion will be $50 by the end of the day.
> mfw some asshole bought out all copies below 99$
God, I hope so.
I actually have heard a semi-convincing argument that fetches should be banned for the same reason as Sensei's Top, which is that they make matches drag on excessively (due to the constant shuffling).
No they don't you retard. Back to playing clash packs for you. I've played in too many modern tournaments to count and no game has ever even went close to time due to a few shuffles.
>so can we all
Get that reddit/tumblr shit out of here.
Strand ain't bad since it reminds me of Fountain of Dreams. Steam Vents, Marsh Flats and Misty Rainforest are okay too. But the rest are godawful. The expeditions fucking suck, and if you pull one, it's wasted money. No one wants that shit, not even spergy collectors, they're going after judge foils.
Speculators/shops predict a budget card is going to be popular, so they buy out the lower costed cards. In the case, every Auriok below $100. They get a same-day shipping, and hope the market memory sticks. Then they push out the card for the price slightly below that high price. Since it looks like "oh shit a lot of people are buying this card, PANIC", people will swarm the higher price object.
A lot of buyouts are predictive based on the banlist. Some buy faggots speculated that Soul Sistas would be meta, or more likely, speculating that people are going for cheap alternatives to break into modern. In which case, using Auriok Champion as a monetary chokepoint on budget deck.
Thrun buyout, I know you speculators post on here. Make that shit $50, I fucking dare you.
Do they go by foil prices? That would seem misleading.
Void snare is decent and versatile, I run it instead of Echoing Truth for the same reasons.
Cloudcrest lake is weirdly enough doable, and for the loop it's probably even preferable over Adarkar Wastes. My list runs 4 basic Islands and 1 basic Plains though, coupled with two fetches and filled up with Ghost Quarters and Darksteel Citadels.
>Running bad cards to deal with a vanilla beater
It's called using removal.
Goyf doesn't need another reprint so soon either.
Also snapcaster is far too powerful for current standard.
Maybe Wizards will decide a $25 uncommon is un-fucking acceptable and start doing some meaningful reprints. And maybe Scarlett Johansson will break down my door dressed as Black Widow and blow me, the two events are about equally likely.
It's straight card disadvantage to remove a vanilla beater that hasn't been cast yet.
Cards such as this are only ever used to remove combo pieces etc.
While true he still enables you to use the best avaliable twice. He was too powerful in his first time and standard and would still be too powerful now.
No doubt he would be powerful, but if they move the removal towards 2-3 mana its quite possible for snapcaster to be reasonable. There's no reason why they can't print powerful cards in standard
Not sure what your point is. Snapcaster can act as a counterspell, is that really a problem
>putting together a list for a Fold Into Aether deck
>Was going to use a slightly modified Twin list
>Realized that even though it's like Twin the only colour I absolutely have to play is Blue
What's a good two or possibly three colour deck that contains blue that can hold onto the game up until turn 4/5?
How shit is this and why should I just go netdeck Tron? I'm not even sure about splashing black but I feel like I need the discard because I'm light on actual creature removal spells.
How do you plan on casting Emrakul? Like wtf is this you would need every single land in your deck to hardcast her, and there are easier ways to cheat her than Folding yourself. You're probably better of using Goryo.
>How do you plan on casting Emrakul?
Fold into Aether one of my 0/1 mana spells
>You're probably better of using Goryo.
Considered it, the problem with Goryo is that it requires specific setup, I have to have a way to get Emmy INTO my graveyard while having the 1B up for Goryo and maybe more for protection for it. Fold just needs any number of 1 drop spells along with the Fold and an Emmy for a turn 5 Emmy or Probe/Explosives for a turn 4 Emmy
Fold doesn't make me sacrifice whatever I play with it at end of turn, can't be hit by Inquisition or Spell snare, is much more versatile in both the window I have to use it and being a possibly usable spell outside of just cheating in a big dude. Also doesn't care about graveyard hate.
This isn't meant to be a Goryo deck, but I can see why you mention it. This is only a basic make of the deck, I'm sure I'll be able to find the right cards to make it purely UW for a less painful land base.
If you really like Goryo though I'm sure some sort of UB/Grixis deck could put in 2 Emmy 4 Goryo and run perfectly fine, Annihilator 6 potentially on turn 3 would be a game winner against most decks.
To expand on that a bit for clarification, Goryo is a 3 card combo (Discard, Goryo, Emmy) of which only one of those cards may be useful outside of the combo.
Fold is a 3 card combo as well (Spell, Fold, Emmy), but is a lot more flexible in that the third card you use can be one of any number of cheap spells, and against certain deck Fold can actually be used as a counter if needed (Twin, Living End, any number of creature-less combo decks, Tron in desperation ect) with only Emmy being a dead draw.
This is compared to the two card combo of Twin + Pestermite/Exarch, which is more reliable due to being able to play essentially at max 8 of the second part of the combo and the combo. The advantage Fold has over Twin is that Twin has to protect both it's spells on the stack, the creature on the board and the enchantment itself, while also losing/tripping to some more niche interactions such as Soul Sisters, Worship or any prison style deck.
Similar to Fold combo, Twin only has one 'useless' card, that being Splinter Twin. However it can be thrown onto a Snapcaster or Vendilion Clique if you have an extra copy in hand you don't need for extra value.
Of course, Twin has a large advantage over both in that it outside of these interactions it is an on the spot win.
I think what will end up being the decider between Twin or Fold as a deck is if the few extra cards and possible different colour combo you can fit in the deck is worth a slightly slower, more resilient wincon.
I like the idea although it's a bit slow. You should go red for bolt, so you have both more removal and more instant speed one mana spells; Your gameplan should be to control until you can fold a 1 mana instant and untap with emrakul
Problems I see with the deck is that it's essentially a 3-card combo, is at it's fastest a turn 6 kill, and forces you to play a lot of useless cards (fold and emrakul are dead draws if you don't have both)
Who do people keep believing on a jew's word? He doesn't only reply to most questions with vague answers, when he answers straight he fucking lies.
>Of course, Twin has a large advantage over both in that it outside of these interactions it is an on the spot win.
No, Twin has an advantage because it has a wincon that doesn't revolve around putting a flying fatty on the board and praying for no removal.
Your wincon is literally cheat out Emrakul and just hope you win from there. You have literally no other plan if that doesn't work. That isn't a combo, thats just Timmy. At least Goryo can win the turn Emmy goes down.
