Currently on and off working on custom loresheets for a LoTW game I may be running. Debating if I want to run something open sandboxy based off my fun times from Age of Wushu, or if I want to run something a little more short campaigny by ripping off Five Deadly Venoms.
>>44676326 I've never read any, but I watched the first Condor Heroes. The MC does power up as fast as a shonen hero, but he never actually becomes stronger than any of the elders, and the bar is established about halfway through.
I do agree it wasn't really that good, though. I liked the characters and the setting, and it had a bunch of great moments, but overall it was pretty directionless.
The Land of Dragon Claw is a massive continent the size of China where all of the various asian cultures are thrown together in a giant melting pot.
The defining feature of Dragon Claw is the shared belief that the 5 rivers are the bodies of the Dragon Gods who, incidently make the land look like a claw of a 5 fingered dragon when viewed from above.
The Source of all the water in the river comes from the mountain range where the tallest mountain, Heavenward, is located as the ice from it spills down from it.
The Mountain itself is 20 miles high and said to have an eternal glacier that water melts from.
Mine's inspired by the Boxer Rebellion and the siege of the international legations. The party is all military from various nations, busy kicking their way inland to rescue their countrymen, a la the Eight Nation Alliance.
>>44676709 2008. Maybe it was my problem. I was expecting an overarching main plot, and found the show couldn't make its mind up whether it was the Book of Wumu, the 9 Yin Manual, the romance of 2 mains, or whatever they were trying to do with Yang Kang. In fact, pretty much everything is resolved with about 5 episodes left. Maybe it was just supposed to be about the 2 heroes having random martial arts adventures.
Other problems: about 2/3 through the hero has no real opponents left. Also, the sentimental stuff dragged on for too long at times. I put off watching it for months when Yang Kang reunited with his family.
Maybe it was just this version, though. I'm 20 episodes into Return 2006 and I'm loving it.
We start by breaking all of the female characters feet so that they can fit into 3 inch long shoes, cut off the male character's feet so they can't run away when they start off as slaves and have them work in sweat shops for the glory of the emperor (the GM) and everyone dies lonely and poor at an early age.
>>44671741 Non-existent, any and all Eastern things were completely eradicated in the 5 Lung War, where Heaven's Agents looked down upon that part of the world and deemed it to be lost in chaos. Monks are just fighters who prefer to use their fists instead of weapons.
>>44676709 >>44677004 I did like a lot how they did the fights, though. Like when the Quan Zhen Sect fights Mei Chaofeng and do all these crazy formations, and then her master arrives and says he'll avenge her with her own fists and proceeds fights using her reanimated corpse. I watched that scene in the 2003 version for comparison, and the Big Dipper formation is just standing around MCF in a circle while she poses, and then the fight is interrupted before the master can use zombie puppetry.
I did like that 2003 Ouyang Feng actually uses a snake fist stance. It just seems obvious.
You know, I just want to say that Return of the Condor Heroes is basically a hentai visual novel with martial arts trappings. Either that, or a precursor to those LNs which are as close to pornography as possible.
Like, you even have the revolving harem of girls. You have Xiao Long Nu (Or Dragon Girl, basically) who is the main girl...But she keeps running off. Now, it's been a long time since I've read it, but I can reel off the list of girls from the top of my head:
i) The spunky, tomboyish runaway who hates the Quanzhen sect. ii) The quiet, demure girl raised by East Heretic who's a great musician and has nursed a crush on Yang Guo since she was a child. iii) The princess of Loveless Valley, who risks death and a groping from her father to save Yang Guo. iv) A Mongolian princess, but not necessarily a Jin princess, so the protagonist doesn't risk fucking the enemy. v) Guo Fu. She's terrible. vi) Guo Xiang. Loli option.
But then, I only recall this from the Wee Tian Beng manwha, which was EXTREMELY sexual but suffered from sameface. Even the incredibly evil Li Monchou is explicitly a virgin, a great beauty, and is secretly hoping to find true love.
