So I'm a drawing and in art school. our next assignment is to pick two characters/creatures from mythology, literature, history, science, etc.
and redraw them with my own design. What do you guys think I should draw? I'm sure there's plenty of races or gods that don't get enough love.
Pic is my work from my last assignment.
Chimera's are one of my favorite beasts. Shit always looked cool to me when I saw it in final fantasy
I'm considering doing something from the Cthulhu mythos, you know, besides Cthulhu
Finnish folk hero Väinämöinen. One of the main characters of finnish epic kalevala.
I've always had my fair share of fun redrawing biblical (but I think any other religion is fine for this) scenes in a more grotesque or alien look myself, you could try that.
Stuff like an eldritch creator dividing matter and antimatter from nothingness, or a pair of ape-ish wretches observing a round mouthed tentacle detach a globe from a coral, or even the most classic space faring leviathan.
Or you could draw the duo basilisk and cockatrice, can't go wrong with those two too, especially if they are hunting for each other.
Oh, yes, this guy. Väinämöinen's cool. He's like Gandalf if Gandalf didn't give a single fuck. Which makes sense, because Tolkien admitted to being inspired by him. But still, dude's awesome.
Draw your own version of ancient aliens. Take famous examples of alien influence in ancient art and myth and extrapolate what the aliens might have looked like based on centuries of artistic revisionism.
all right, making an executive decision. I'm doing Finnish Gandalf and an eldricht horror. (I'm partial to doing pele goddess of fire but I feel like I should do one that isn't a humanoid.)
