OK, let's nix the "Animu is objectively best prove me wrong fgts" bullshit off the bat.

In my eyes, Fantasy and it's draw starts from childhood fairy tales. Those little picture books mom & dad would read you before bed to hopefully shut you up. As such there's the background of simple morals and comforting times with as a kid tucked into bed. The images of knights fighting dragons and woodsmen fighting wolves.

Japan of course has their own slough of fairy tales, that they put into their unabashedly simple Dragon Quest series of games, made to be bright, colorful, and cartoony. For a generation, this is what an RPG really is. A simple time bashing rows of slimes, getting gold, and fighting the demon king.

So while westerners always pursue the "Serious and mature for serious and mature people such as myself, unless it's comedy", Japan's (Asia in general?) pursuit of cute tends to make me think of the setting of those old picture books, and gives me a sort of nostalgia for it.

That, and their nearly complete disregard of western feminism + no significant Christian background with hundreds of years of "No no sex is badwrongfun unless married only in missionary position for children only" being drilled into their culture means that every now and again we get some pretty fantastic cheesecake that would never make it in western media.

Western media for Edgy Hardcore bloodbath Conan the Barbarian. Japan for Happy-go-lucky feel good kill monsters with "Colon three" faces. While I didn't like the grinding, I actually really liked the music, art direction, and atmosphere of Ragnarok Online (Yes, Korea), but still leave room for GrimdarkEdgy time.

At first, you won't want to. For the first week, you'll likely not notice results, and probably will start to get discouraged. But by the second week, you should start to notice things.

Not to mention, excercise releases endorphins that make you feel good. It might actually help with your depression. Excercise, a healthy diet, and scheduled meals.

Not only will the endorphins make you feel better, but the schedule and the diet might help keep your mind occupied, keep you from ruminating about your depression. Set goals for yourself. Count calories to keep your mind occupied. Make it a goal to improve your life.

You can do this. You CAN get better. Willpower isn't some inherent trait that you either have or don't have. It's a matter of forcing yourself to do something, even if you really don't want to.

Honestly, you don't even need to excercise every day. Just force yourself to do it four times a week, about an hour per day. Or however long you can if you seriously can't make it an hour. Goals and structure are very useful tools for fighting depression.

The food isn't a big problem for me, since I miss half my meals from laziness and have replaced snacks with fruits, which are nice. Technically I'm losing weight, just very slowly. I hope it's not muscle mass.

But the exercise, I've never gotten endorphins from that. I enjoy winning an arm wrestle or being better at a workout than someone who came with me, but strength, cardio, walking or any other exercise itself doesn't make me feel good.

My cars busted and my work is only about 2.5 miles away so I skate there, my husband bikes, it seems like every other day he's adding a new notch on his belt. Myself, I'm getting stamina and butt muscles, I'm usually lazy as fuck, so for the first week I felt like I was going to throw up on my way there, but it got easier fast.

I say bike or whatever because unlike jogging you have to keep a pace, with jogging it's too easy to run yourself ragged then just give up and walk.

Loosing too much weight too quickly is dangerous and no matter how overweight you are, not eating anything for extended periods (weeks) can kill you depending on your activity levels so don't starve yourself.

Keep doing what you're doing and gradually improve, you'll get there.

I find that cutesy animu fantasy can be fun if done with the right people and the right mindset. If you go in fully expecting a light hearted chucklefest with maybe some drama here and there, you'll have a great time.

If you run in with the mindset of hard western fantasy, you'll most likely be at a loss in terms of enjoyment.

I find that mixing the two on occasion can make some positive results, as long as you don't go overboard on one or the other. Then again, I'm partial to running my games like how fallout plays with Wild Wasteland enabled. That can give plenty of wiggle room for both the cutesy animu fantasy and the western serious fantasy.
