curious to see what armies TG plays and your unit of choice from the army
Tyranids - Trygons (Think they look way badass)
Dark Eldar - Raiders (Spikey pirate ships are badass)
Dark Angels - Generic Ravenwing Biker (Go fast)
Tau - Crisis Suit (Customizable mini-gundams)
I love these guys, they just fuck shit up when they get in close combat. The new model is elegant and deadly in equal measures
Because sometimes I don't want to only go fast. Sometimes I want to drop some sexy robed terminator knights on them as well. Also Ravenwing Black Knights and Interromancy are far cooler than anything in the SM codex.
As for Tau, I really like the suits. I like dropping down and unloading fusion and plasma. I like bouncing around in my enemy's deployment zone and charging my Fusion Blade commander into an enemy unit. I even enjoy knowing that charging him in there was a bad idea, but god damn Farsight's model has a sword and I'm gonna use it.
> No, not CHAOS raptors.
> The Raven Guard Successor
I'm the guy that frequently shows in threads up to rant about how awesome raptors are.
I got these guys because I love everything about them. I don't even care about how good they are on the tabletop. Most badass dudes in the galaxy to me.
Pic related. I love Blood Angels to death and the Death Company doubly so. I just love the concept of a maniac strapped to a jet engine getting a gun and a pat on the back.
Thanks be to the Emperor that there's more than one of us.
Taking cues from >>44531679 i'll list mine in that order
(favorite, always include, most spammed)
Dark Eldar - Incubi, Reaver jetbikes, Kabalite Warriors
Dark Angels (Ravenwing) - Librarian, Biker Command Squad, Bike Squads
Black Templar - Emperors Champion, Storm Talons, Honor Guard
Imperial Knights - Lancer, Paladin, Paladin
Tau - Remoras, Tetras, XV8s
Still liked their old fluff more, and the actual models look oddly out of place for 40K.
Too smooth, to military, not enough huge, skulls, or detail.
It's like they had a totally new set of dudes design them, then got their main guys to make the doofiest looking transport they could.
Make crap transport into awesome transport
Minotaur Space Marines - Asterion and his TH+SS Termie bodyguard if that counts.
All things Mechanicum , 30k+40k - I love all of the units
Former Necron player - Wraiths and Overlords
Also building a 30k Alpha Legion, and I'm really liking taking other people's unique units.
Dark Angels - Deathwing and Ravenwing
Guard (Cadians) - Tanks, tanks, and more tanks
Knights (Hawkshroud) - Castigator
Space Wolves - Grey Hunters and Wolf Guard
Crimson Fists - Pedro and Sternguard
Black Templars - Crusader Squads
Inquisition - Hereticus Inquisitor with Death Cultists and Crusaders
Warriors. As your main troop should, they embody everything I love about DE both aesthetically and in fluff.
>Space Marines (Raven Guard Successor)
Vanguard Vets. Something about a genetically enhanced super soldier hurtling himself through the air via jetpack to stab some guy with a sword just screams 40k to me.
I love all my armor, but my favorites are my Armored Sentinels. Honestly it's just because I've always loved AT-STs.
I started 40k with Tau when they first came out (played fantasy for years before).
Then I moved to Space Wolves (thanks to 13th Company) during the Eye of Terror campaign, then Dark Eldar in 6th ed.
Now I kinda want to play an Emperors Children warband.
Not sure what you mean by unit of choice, but my favorite has to be Purifiers, both in lore and combat.
P.S. - The baby carrier looks stupid, and if it wasn't so fucking good, I wouldn't ever field them.
Eldar - SwHawks
Orks - Kans and Dreads
Guard - FW Armageddon Basilisks/FW traitor Guardsmen
Marines - Scouts
Chaos Space Marines - Bezerkers
Daemons - Nurglings
Empire - Knightly orders
Chaos warriors - new Khorne blood warrior guys or the the blight kings
Warp Spiders shoot monofilament wire to turn people into jelly. They do this after jumping through literal hell to arrive there is the blink of an eye, repeatedly. Fucking metal.
Imperial Veterans are the only ones you can really trust with special weapons. They can shoot as well as a space monk or space elf that has been doing this shit for 100s of years, just because they've seen THAT much shit.
Chosen models, especially those from Dark Vengeance, are fucking sex. Fuck stats, they look perfect. That is all.
Probably Dreadnaughts. SM are easy to paint, but they look so bland. Even special characters lack little details to get lost in. Honor guard are pretty good too.
Kroot and Vespid. They actually have some flavor and don't look doofy, unlike most of the army. Broadsides are also acceptable.
The Haruspex just looks like a pants-shitting horror that I'd fail an San Check against.
The hardest choice - But it goes to Kommandos for being sneaky beakies, and also for the Nob chomping on a cigar.
I'm oldcrons at heart. Mindless samey minions in Warriors, and big fuck-off Monoliths.
Tyranids and no matter how shitty it is or what I'm facing, my beloved dreadknights breaker tervigon is always my troop choice.
I whish she could spawn hormagaunts sometimes though, the little buggers are nice too.
I play space marines and my unit of choice is a dreadnought
Dark Eldar - Reaver Jet Bikes. Back when I was playing Dark Eldar they were practically the only good looking model they had.
I came sniffing around GW again a few days ago, after 5 or 6 years away from the hobby, and Jesus Fucking Christ is GW trying to commit suicide?
My Exocrine gets fielded, pretty much, every game. Its gun is really good for dealing with the Marines and Crisis teams I frequently find myself against, and I'm just really happy with my conversion for it.
Time spent with neckbeards online is still time spent with neckbeards. The only difference is that online neckbeards are in denial about the length, density and cleanliness of their beards.
The online ones tend to be more autismal due to a lack of social contact.
I stopped playing early 2010, however I still have all my Tyranids.
863 gaunts (I haven't counted specifically which has more Termagaunt or Hormagaunt, but it looks near an even split)
120 Genestealers with interchangeable weapons
1 The Red Terror
1 Old One Eye
4 Hive Tyrants
9 Tyrant Guard
I want to return to playing, but are Tyranids even viable these days? I haven't read anything for rule books, supplements or codecs since 2011.
Grey Knights-Terminators just look so good. Those angular helmets are perfect.
Tyranids-The Swarmlord looks great, too bad he's just a fire magnet.
CSM-Tie between the Chaos Sorcerer and Warpsmith. I love all the mechatendrils on the latter.
Skitarii-The Ironstrider looks amazing, the epitome of 40k's stupid/gothic/awesome aesthetic.
Imperial Fists-Devastators. Those new models look great.
Tau - Skyray (Popping important guys all day)
Space Marines - Devastator (Friends rarely use vehicles and even then, usually a rhino or two)
Tyranid - Stone Crusher Carnifex (Won't fucking die)
>Sang Priest w/Relic Jump pack and sword
>Librarian w/ Jump pack and Relic Staff
>Kitted out Sang Guard
This is my centerpiece unit and always finds its way into any list. I don't give a shit how much of a point waste it is.
I don't even leave home without my Noise Marines. They are my absolute favorite unit across all of my armies.
Stormsurges, mostly because they remind me of my favorite mech design from the Armored Core games: a super-heavy suit with racks and racks of missiles instead of arms. Sadly they're too good for most games I play. I'm only ever going to take mine to tournaments.
Blood Angels. Death Company with a Chaplain leading them, definitely, always been a big favorite of mine - both in fluff and crunch.
Glorious Dark Angels, with a Ravenwing/greenwing army.
A moment of laxity spawns a lifetime of heresy.
It actually is a girl.. Those are my sisters hands. I'm glad /tg/ apparently thinks my sister is a gay man because she inherited my dad's monster-hands.
I think to imperial and chaos.
2000 points of sisters with inquisition and knight support.
Khorne daemonkin, nurgle daemons and csm.
I mostly enjoy the daemonkin of late, but the imperials are easier to carry since I use like 100 models in my daemonkin.
hey guys whats a good generic foam army case when kinda shopping on a budget? Its not exactly for 40k but i thought I would ask here first rather than starting my own thread.
have some Heresy in return!
Your heresy is weak.
As for foam army cases you're either going to pay premium for the big stuff or make your own.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b13SGfWPsS8 is a little old but covers most of your bases.
thanks anon, ill also try to improve my heresy game
THANK THE EMPEROR IM NOT THE ONLY ONE HERE
Actual convo I had
"So are those guard? Are all your points in the Valkyries? That's not a lot of guard."
"No man, Tempestus Scions. They're the new stormtroopers."
"Never heard of them, is that a supplement for guard?"
"No, it is its own codex. Think elite Imperial Guard teams."
"I don't like playing against Forgeworld man, you got anything else?"
It took me to showing the dude the fucking boxes on the shelf to show that Scions were not Forgeworld and in fact their own army. He was CONVINCED that because I had Valkyries I was playing specifically IG with some bullshit rules.
Horus Heresy Alpha Legion.
Legion Tactical marines simple useful run of the mill guys who get shit done just like the Alpha Legion likes it
>"So are those guard? Are all your points in the Valkyries? That's not a lot of guard."
At this point, you should have walked away if he doesn't even recognize MT models.
>"Never heard of them, is that a supplement for guard?"
Why were you still talking to him at this point?
CSM-Plague Marines, mostly due to the toughness of removing them
KDK-The new bloodthirster kit. love it
Chaos Daemons- Daemon Prince for the customization, but burning chariots look great
Nids-Carnifexes. Nidzilla lists are my jam
Renegades- Emplaced Earthshakers
Crimson Fists- Do Sergeants with power fists count? Well they do for me.
30k Alpha Legion-
All the other legion's special units i can steal
I play Iron Hands. My favourite unit is my Iron Father Vokan Maeloc. Represented by a modified forge world iron father. I also love my relic sicaran and contemptor dreadnoughts.
I also play Tahgmata Omnissiah in 40k regularly at my stores. My favourite unit being my Thanatar Siege Automata.
In my IG list; would have to be my Vendettas or my enginseer's.
Praise the machine God.
Space Marines- Assault marines and Devastator marines
Dark Angels- Interrogator Chaplain with Mace of Redemption
Ravenwing- Interrogator Chaplain with MoR on Bike, Command Squad
Tyranids- Endless Swarm Formation
Death Korps- Thudd Guns
Space Wolves - Grey Hunters (just tactical marines better at their job than actual tacticals) and Longfangs (devastators, only better)
I like the idea of an army of efficient beasts
Necrons - I really like the small token unit of tomb blades that the Decurion forces you to take. Particle beamer = loads of small blasts, perfect against any kind of enemy. I once obliterated a Nurgle-marked CSM squad with six of these babies and I'm in love ever since
Tau - Hammerhead gunship. I love the idea of an alien Gun Motor Carriage, hiding in the shadows, shooting a killer snapshot and just darting away. Also, Fire Warriors look slick and operator as fuck
My Death Korps aren't "good". I run a siege regiment and fuck shit up though, even if I die to a man from podding marines and eldar.
12 is a little excessive but you know what? I like you.
A friend of mine is trying to get me into 40k and he told me that If I wanted, he could gift me a 600 point Tau army
Of course, I have absolutely no Idea what a 600 point army means, all i know is the Tau are up there with the Eldar in faceroll tier
Considering this, is it worth getting into? Or is it another of those hobbies that you end up being a part of out of inertia after spending 3 thousand bucks on something rather than actually enjoying it?
New to 40k and the General Thread is down.
So I bought these...Beach-crons?...online, is there any way to strip the terrible paint AND the rocky base without wrecking the model?
any plastic safe degreaser should work. Simple Green is the common reply, but I find it doesn't get into crevices very well. Any exposed areas will have the paint sheeting off, and it'll definitely soften any in the cracks. A stiff toothbrush should get most of it. I remember somebody posting a better option in a w.i.p. thread but didn't save the name.
If those rocks are held on with regular white glue, it should break down when submerged for a day or two.
I like the idea of the Scions but I'm really not a fan of the models in 40k. I'd use them for Inquisition stormtroopers since they've got that look of a private army/house bodyguard but not quite the grinding war machine of the Imperium at large.
Really depends. The new bundles are 85 bucks and should be enough to see if it's something you enjoy. Expect to spend a bit (about 100 or so) on hobby supplies.
It's cheaper than a lot of hobbies.
Modelling is a huge part of the hobby. If you enjoy art projects or military models (which I do), then Citadel models are exquisite, easy to work with and customize, and easy to acquire.
They are cheaper than model railroads, but MSRP is pretty steep. I get everything from secondhand for bits and projects, and then to support my FLGS I buy my hobby supplies and books, scenery, and anything that is close in cost from them. I also bring in new players, buy refreshments and beers, and try to support the place I play.
It's fun. My friends and I often talk about ideas for new units we want to build, army ideas, bounce lists off each other. I play about once a week for 4-5 hours; I try to paint or hobby about the same. I spend another 5 hours talking/researching about the hobby.
15 hours a week of entertainment goes a long way.
Depends on what you want.
Planning out a CSM army, getting back into the game after a long time away.
Alpha Legion: Mechanical "hydra" themed, w/ Dark Mechanicum. Daemon Engines, mark of Slaanesh ("Perfection of the machine", daemonettes riding engines), Havocs, Noise Marines with mechanized embellishments, using Skitarii for Cultist units. Chosen squad of Alpha Legion veterans is in Heresy-era mk. 4/5 armor (as pictured). No visible faces, idea being the actual people under the gear is totally interchangeable. Warpsmith HQ is actually a heavily-converted Magos. Trying to see if an old Daemonette head can be worked onto it to give them impression of a cyber-medusa-type character. They're in it to seize resources and work their agenda.
World Eaters: Raptors, Helbrutes, Berserkers. Most heavily mutated, feral aspect, bared faces. Emphasis on options with heavy randomized element, reflecting uncontrollable nature of Khornate warriors. HQ is Kharn, because of course he is. They're in it for mayhem and carnage.
Fallen Angels: Bikers, Terminators, Plague Marines, Nurgle themes. Heavy on the "faded glory" idea, with knightly trappings gone to decay. HQ is Chaos Lord inspired by Artorias from Dark Souls -- Mark of Nurgle, leaking tarry corruption from armor, Murder Sword. They're in it because they retain a shred of desire to die honorably, despite being basically unable to die permanently.
I love doing conversions. I'm not sure how competitive this army will be, but I have more fun being artistic than min/maxing.
Imperial Guard- Leman Russ Tanks
Devistators in Dpods
I'd have to go with Ultrasmirfs for my favorite ones to play. I don't know how or why I like them, but after reading the Horus Heresy books, Guillimen is my favorite Primarch purely because he seems far more human than any other.
Tyranids- Hive Tyrant (Can be kitted out to any situation. Really good generic HQ)
Chaos Space Marines- Defilers (I play Iron Warriors, so they're practically a must take. Love that they're good at range and CC)
Chaos Daemons- Bloodthirster (BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD, SKULLS FOR THE SKULL THRONE!)
Going by that illustration, I could definitely see Daniel Craig playing him.
But yeah, he's an okay guy. A good voice of "shit's fucked, how do we un-fuck it" rather than "shit's fucked, let's fuck their shit up too". And it's reasonable for him to feel that way after trying to go full vengeance and just having it turn the situation with Angron and Lorgar somehow even worse.
Also, as cliche as the Ultrasmurfs are, they look really, REALLY good when painted correctly. I'd probably grab a bunch of Black Templar and Dark Angels accessories just to further decorate them.
Even though other chapter masters have fucked up, gotta give it to azrael, screwing over the first fucking legion for ten thousand years has got to be the biggest fuck ups in 40k
I play Necrons, Tau, Thousand Sons CSM and Khornate CSM/Daemonkin. All casual (no Decurions or battlesuit spam). I'll list the fave units I play.
Doomsday Ark. Huge range, blast, max strength, best AP. Plus it looks awesome.
Stealthsuits. I love everything about these versatile and autistic motherfuckers. They're the Solid Snakes in my lists.
Rubric Marines. Overpriced? Definitely. One-trick ponies? Of course. Fucking immortal and effective at what they do? Extremely. Plus who doesn't love them hats?
Forgefiends also, mine are Sphinxes. Good allrounder firepower and a badass look to boot.
Bloodthirster/DP, because Khornate daemons just look metal as hell. I'm tempted to get the Starter Khorne box just to have a few bloodcrushers because red armoured daemonbulls just look awesome.
