The moss and lichen covers almost every inch of the derelict structures. It may have once been a great fort in a civilisation long passed. Amongst the clinging moss, grows crimson grass.

Decades pass, and the crimson grass covers huge patches of the walls, making the ruins look like the giant broken heart of a titan construct. From the Crimson, fungal stalks begin to emerge. Huge fleshy blossoms begin to emerge from the walls, 3 feet in diameter bedecked in the crimson of it's roots and spattered with small yellow spores.

One particularly stormy night, lightning strikes scorch the walls, and an electricity jolts the fungi from their roots. But these are no mere mushrooms. 4 feet tall, with eyes looking out from under their gilled button tops; they congregate and begin communicating with each other using strange hisses made by vibrating the gills beneath their heads.

The Myceanea bear quite agile limbs, despite their short stature, and have hardened claws at the end of their three-fingered hands.

After a quick look in each direction, yourpopulation of 27 notice that you are surrounded by dense forest. What do you do?

You soon decide that the best course of action is to spread your spores and claim more of this territory for your own. Your small fungal heads begin to spit small yellow clouds into the air, settling on walls, floors and anywhere they can reach.

After a couple of days, the whole area is surrounded in crimson. There is no denying that the area belongs to you now, and it becomes noticeable that other creatures avoid the Crimson. Insects and rodents sniff at the area before moving on their way. The grass seems to be thriving on the detritus and humus littering the ground, but the whole area lacks the cultivation to begin breeding.

Watching the grass feed reminds your people that you are hungry, and without food soon you're certain you may wither away back into the earth.

Your ravenous appetites cause you to devour all of the decaying plant matter in sight within hours. Everybody looks full, but there is now no stockpiled humus for you to get stuck in to. You may have to look elsewhere for food, or find a way to harvest nearby animals; which are currently too fast for you.

After a few days of being settled in, you notice that some larger animals, herbivorous in nature have begun to graze near to your Crimson abode. They are about 3 times your size, but look rather docile. Their tough teeth seem to chew through vegetative matter with ease. Along with the appearance of these creatures, you notice that other animals such as rabbit, deer and badgers have become more confident in the surrounding area. They do however, still keep a distance, on the fringes of your territory.

From among the crimson grass, your people manage to find lots of branches and twigs. One smart soul manages to snap the branch, and notices it's sharp point (Discovered: Sharpened Spear). Each Myceanea follows suit, and you smirk amongst yourselves at your newfound lethality.

Meanwhile, a handful of you started packing mud into piles. The piles are becoming walls, and before long a modest looking hut mud hut is coming along (Discovered: Mud Architecture).

All of this hard work has once again made your people hungry, and you can't help but eye up the herd of 15 creatures in the northern clearing. Should you go after these large creatures, and risk being trampled? Or try to hunt the smaller game that gets cocky enough to venture too close?

You take a squad of Myceanea out into the clearing and try to stalk after the creatures. After a half an hour of waiting, you notice that one has strayed from the herd. You close in from all sides. Some of you throw your spears, and some of you poke and stab. The creature goes beserk and starts hooting a low rumble. The other beasts scramble in the other direction, and your prey follows.

It tramples over and crushes 2 of your men, before collapsing from loss of blood. It soon dies from shock.

You drag it back to camp, whilst some of you stay back to pick up the scattered remains of your friends. Food is food, right?

When you return, you see that the granary has been completed, and has more than enough room to store the meat and such from the felled beast. The fallen are mourned, albeit briefly.

You decide to cultivate some of the surrounding Crimson. You mash up some of the Bronto meat that you have in store and spread it amongst the grasses, which are soon greedily snatched up by roots and plant-like tendrils.

Meanwhile, you send a couple of Fun-Guys to scout south. They find that the forest ends and is replaced by fields of stumps. Endless stumps as far as you can see, it looks like some previous civilisation has been at work here.

After a couple of days, you notice that all of the Bronto meat has been soaked up, and 9 polyps are growing in various areas where you spread it. The results are promising.

The polyps tower above you, each is at least 9 feet high. They look like they are about a third of the way to maturity.

You keep some of your people back to look after the Polyps and to make sure they grow correctly. Everything seems to be going well.

After a bright spark gets the idea to capture animals and farm them, your people brainstorm ideas. Eventually, the most popular idea is to make a ranged weapon that immobilizes the prey without killing it. Prototypes are made and scrapped, until one shows promise...

A length of vine with rocks tied to either end. When thrown at the legs of prey, it entangles them and forces them to trip (Discovered: Vine Bolas).

You soon notice that the days are getting shorter, and leaves start to fall from the trees more frequently.

A few days have passed since you cultivated the Turf, and the Crimson has faded to a light pink. It would seem that the nutrients have all but drained from the grass, and they may need more spores to be ready for use again.

People go out to collect food with their newfound technology. You manage to kill another Bronto without casualties, and you trap a calf. As you drag it back to your home, you notice the other Brontos staring intently at you. They look furious.

Upon return to your lair, you notice that the Polyps are gone. In their place loom 9 giant Myceanea, picking leaves from the canopies and dozily chewing on them. Dark brown from the bottom of their legs, all 9 feet up to the top of them. They are incredibly muscled, but seem almost as docile as the Brontos. Apart from the increase in size and lack of intelligence, they seem similar to your Drones. It is also noteworthy that these Brutes do not have claws on their hands, but do have bulky knuckles.

You set a few people to tame the Bronto calf that you acquired. It whines and bleats for hours, but finally shuts up. You lock it in the granary, due to not having anywhere to keep it without it getting away as of yet. Meanwhile, the Brontoceanea seem content to wander around and chew on sticks and leaves.

Noticing their placid nature, some of the Drones become annoyed. They try handing spears to the Brontoceanea, but they just end up chewing on them. After fruitless hours of trying to do something about it; you notice one of the big fellas off on his own beating a tree with another tree that he has uprooted.

Before long, you have stockpiled the 9 largest logs you could find, and the Brontoceanea seem very happy to beat them into the shapes of clubs. The smartest of your clan spend some time with the Brontoceanea, and eventually get them to obey simple orders. They don't seem capable of speech, but can understand pointing and other hand gestures.

Meanwhile, a couple of Drones knocked up a small animal pen for the calf, made out of vines and thin branches. It'll hold the calf for now, but won't do fantastically if it makes an escape attempt.

You notice now that an abundance of leaves have begun to fall from the trees, and there's a chill in the air. Animals nearby seem to be collecting food and taking it to their lairs. The Brontoceanea seem joyous when left to frolic amongst the dead leaves.

In a desperate effort to collect more food, you send out almost all of your Drones, leaving a few behind to oversee brute construction efforts.

It's a mess. They fall over each other, break things and are generally a nuisance. However, one of them seems to exhibit some intelligence that wasn't seen before. After being knocked into the mossy ruins near where you camp, huge clumps of masonry land around him. He begins piling them up and makes a tower with them. The Drones catch the idea, and formulate plans (Discovered: Masonry).
After a few hours, you have a single building made from bricks and mud. It stands firm, and can even withstand a Brontoceanea falling onto it. The structure has enough space to house either 20 Drones, 7 Brutes or the equivalent of 5 adult Bronto carcasses.

Off in the trees, the Drones search for food. The next day sees them return with mainly leaves and other decaying vegetation. A dead badger was also found, as well as a handful of sugary purple fruit.

Your people all stay within the same area for once, and begin to get to work. The Brutes are supervised whilst they make a paddock out of stone and sticks for the young calf. The paddock is made quite large, and has enough space for a small family of Brontos to live quite comfortably. There is space for them to run and graze, and a small shelter for them to sleep in.

Meanwhile, some of the Drones begin taming the calf. After some trouble, they eventually get it to stay still and to go to it's shelter when called. You notice something very strange about the calf. As the temperature drops, small tufts of fur have started to grow on its hide. Only short at the moment, maybe a few millimetres, but noticeable.

It has also become apparent that with the withering of your Crimson grass, other animals have started to graze on your territory. They scatter when confronted, but they have grown confident. It's almost like they aren't scared now that the floor doesn't look like it's coated in blood...

The Drones head out into the clearing, scaring away the vermin grazing on your sweet Crimson. They cough and splutter out their Spores, which settle in the grass. After a couple of days, the Crimson flourishes again, and morale is raised even higher. The Brontoceanea have never seen the grass this vibrant before and seem ecstatic as they run through it and play.

Once the Bronts have calmed down, you squeeze the citrus juice from the fruits and splash it into the grass, where the menacing-looking blades soak it up greedily.

The next morning, 2 Polyps form in the grass, they are around 4 feet tall and a vibrant purple.

When night falls, and you are all huddled around sharing stories and generally chatting, one of the Drones speaks up. He tells your clan that he heard strange clicking noises coming from the northwest. Nobody pays attention, and they laugh it off as one of the stories. The Drone sits back down and looks thoughtful. Maybe he was hearing things?

You send a couple of scouts to the Northwest, and leave a couple of Drones and a Bront to guard the northwest of the clearing. Moving through the dense forest, your scouts stumble onto a beach. A large lake stretches out ahead of you. You can't even see the other side of it from where you are right now.

The thing that catches your attention is the crumbling tower rooted into the beach. Waves gently lap at its base, and barnacles can be seen growing up the bottom of the tower. The tower seems to be submerged by at least the ground floor. Your scouts stay back and watch for a while. The architecture seems similar to the ruins near your home, but the brick is darker, with large red gemstones protruding from the walls.

They head back to camp and report their findings.
