Our people have faced many trials and tribulations first we fled the great dragon of the west, then we rebuilt our civilization from the ground up, saving the orcs from a demonic takeover and forming an alliance with the elves. We then found ourselves fighting against the gnomes to the south, which through a lot of blood and determination we overcame. We then reclaimed our ancestral homeland from the great dragon with the help of the elves and the gnomes and finally formed a grand coalition to defeat the great northern demonic invasion destroying their portal and ultimately saving the world.

Its been 60 years since the battle at the portal. The heroes of the old wars are either dead or much too old to lead our people now. Technology has advanced at a rapid rate and is shared throughout the coalition nations who have grown close in the 60 years of peace and prosperity following the great northern war with the demons.
>>

The green on the map above represents coalition territory. The commonwealth has dramatically grown in both population and power since the end of the great northern war, with settlers colonizing the large western island and smaller islands near it.

The commonwealth constitution holds every citizen equal before the law, outlaws slavery and holds every citizen responsible for aiding and serving the nation in times of war.

Who will be the leader of our people

A) Targ Jorgenson, Ex shieldbearer commando and general of the armed forces of the commonwealth, he is a highly effective military leader known for his aggressive tactics.
B) Lucian Brahe, A scientist and entrepeneur dedicated to pushing forward technology and further developing industry in our nation. He is a a skilled chemist and successful business man who places high value on education, technology and magic and how they all go together.

C) Reya blackfire, A powerful fire mage hailing from the western part of the commonwealth. She is the subject of a controversial dark elven prophecy about a powerful mage who will save the world. While she is focused on fire magic, she is also passable at other forms of magic and serves as a professor at one of the commonwealths most prestigious magic schools

The council chooses ruger to be the armys leader.

After many years of expansion and growth the commonwealth has run into a new civ, a race of technologically advanced giants from the large continent. They apparently have taken it over and cleansed it of all other civs. They all dispute the territory of the small island between our continents and after threatening war on multiple occasions have finally followed through, sinking several merchant ships and attacking some of our more far flung colonies near their continent

How do we respond?
>>
>>33436647
What do we know about their culture, specifically political hierarchy?
>>
>>33437014
They are very insular and closed off, allowing nobody but a few high ranking diplomats and merchants inside their country. However we know they are ruled by a high chief of all the tribes of the Buragi, which is what they call themselves.
>>
>>33436647
send out squads of our new Kommandos to the colonies and to patrol the roads, give them instruction to intercept any raids, but to not cross the border. Establish our strength, but avoid going into a war until we can get a accurate estimate of their strength.

>>33437014
and this
>>
>>33437081
Let's fortify our own borders, put more soldiers on our ships, and research the most effective ways for killing giants.
>>
>>33436647
>>33437119
>>33437135

Our only information about the invading forces is from refugees who somehow slipped away from Buragi war parties ravaging the western island. The refugees say they were looting the settlements and taking the survivors as slaves. The western island is relatively newly colonized by the commonwealth and is populated mostly by dark elves from the west coast and dwarven colonists from the interior.

The council immediately calls upon the western command to deploy reinforcements to the island to secure our settlements from future raids and attacks. Meanwhile we mobilize our main force in Cor, the capital city.

Shall we summon our allies?
>>
>>33437193
Yes, but spin it as defending the dark elves, not as our brand new expansion war. Emphasize that we must unify to protect ourselves from this threat like we have in the past.
>>
>>33437278
this
>>
>>33437298
>>33437278
The council sends out a request to our allies to form a new coalition army to assist our people and throw back these aggressors.

The western command sends a quick reaction force of a battleship leading 2 heavy cruisers and a handful of light cruisers and other lighter ships to the island. The western force has 1000 regulars plus 400 marines and 200 shieldbearer elite special forces troops. They report landing unopposed and finding our settlements on the island in ruins, the population taken into slavery by the enemy. The force then takes over the ruins of one of the towns and begins fortifying it as a base camp for a future campaign.

Meanwhile a few weeks pass and the coalition forces begin to converge at our capital.

The northern humans will contribute 2000 elite dragoons, while the gnomes are contributing 4000 riflemen with support from their experimental machine gun units. The southern kingdom is sending 200 elite vampire special forces troops and 1800 human regulars. The elves are sending 6000 Troops including 1000 of the kings own sunguard elite troops.

Our own force was mustered at about 10000 men with several thousand more still being gathered from the interior and mountains and other hard to reach places. The force plans to leave for the western army in a grand armada, numbering over 100 ships with our newest and largest battleship the CNS Vengeance leading the way.

Who will be the leader of the navy

A. Rodger the second, A decendant of one of our original admirals who showed great promise in the naval academy, he is an expert at naval positioning and using battleships and other ships with big guns.

B) Holden, A veteran from the merchant marine, he is experienced at fighting off pirates and skirmishing with agressive Buragi patrols. He does'nt believe in no win scenarios

C) Varkas, A sailor who has climbed the ranks of the navy from a mere seaman to admiral, he supports the concept of using the new aircraft from sea

Do we have the technology to go full pearl harbor on them?
If not, then I vote A. If he's anything like his father we're golden.
>>
>>33437829
>>33437766
We do in the sense that we have aircraft, even though ours are a relatively new development, only being invented in the last decade, however as we saw in the past, war has a tendency to push certain technologies forward very quickly.

Varkas sets out leading the fleet to the western island, several weeks later the fleets rounds the bottom of the continent is moving up the coast when he is alerted by one of the lookouts on the ship of a flying object in the distance just at the edge of our vision. Varkas pulls out his telescope and gets a better look seeing a small white airship with a small Buragi insignia on the side.

What do?
>>
>>33437991
looks like we have ourselves an opportunity for a test run, launch some squadrons to intercept, keep some squadrons in reserve in case more airships are hiding out of sight
>>
>>33437991
>>33438042
This, plus any sort of surface-to-air attack we can manage. Maybe a magical pseudo-flak?

Seeing the airship you quickly order one of the planes kept on the racks on top of the ship placed into the water and sent after that airship. You watch as the small crane places the plane the water and the pilot and his gunner get in, turning the prop to get it going.

The planes quickly picks up speed, bouncing off a wave and finally getting into the air, moving to the target. It is obvious the airship sees this as you look through your spyglass to see it turning around fleeing west as the plane rises to meet it. The plane quickly catches up and takes it down with a spray of bullets from gunner's machinegun.

The planes lands and gets picked back up as the fleet continues on towards the island

Also imagine pic related but with floats
>>
>>33438320
The fleet finally arrives a week later, as commander of the operation Varkas quickly orders an airstrip built as well as constant air patrols around the island for enemy activity. Several days pass before you are alerted that the planes have seen a massive enemy fleet approaching and estimate it will arrive at the island is 3 days. They also claim to have been nearly intercepted by planes launched by strange looking ships with flat tops, that dont seem to have any guns
>>
>>33438403
what do?
>>
>>33438500
Let's experiment with our own aircraft carriers, and, if we can, also attempt to make submarines. We've had naval superiority for a long time, I'm not willing to give it up just yet.
>>
>>33438554
What about the immediate situation?
>>
>>33438403
set up as many artillery and flak batteries at our forward base as we can, order the majority of the fleet into open water, when the enemy fleet arrives put up a stiff resistance to lure their heavy ships to the island. Once their heavy ships are committed we strike at their "airstrip ships", then strike at their battleships pinning them between our fleet and our coastal batteries
>>
>>33438554
>>33438618
Start regular air patrols and continue general preparations. If we catch one of their carriers in a vulnerable position let's take advantage of that, but don't risk anything.
>>
>>33438676
>>33438634
>>33438554
The fleet moves away from island leaving behind a small taskforce of the fastest ships to serve as bait for our plan. Meanwhile the army is ordered to dig in on the beaches building coastal batteries with heavy artillery pieces and rocket artillery. We also have several squadrons of planes brought to the island and fitted with a new experimental weapon, torpedoes.

You also take advantage of another new technology developed during the long peace, something called radio which allows people to communicate over long distances. The radio devices are still large and heavy and expensive but every command ship has one and the airbase commander has been given one as well.

The 3 days finally pass and the taskforce is sent in as bait. They fight an engagement for almost 45 minutes straight before falling back, losing half of their number, mostly to enemy aircraft. Seeing the task force on the run, the enemy fleets moves in pursuit getting close enough to the island for our defenses to engage them and the planes to be deployed.

Our planes start taking off as the coastal guns begin exchanging fire with the enemy fleet, sinking one of their smaller ships and damaging an enemy battleship forcing it to fall out of formation. With the trap sprung, the main fleet moves in to engage.

The fleets moves in with CNS Vengeance leading the way. Our battleships and cruisers trading fire with the enemy fleet doing a number on them, while taking relatively light damage ourselves. However about 15 minutes into the battle the lookouts inform you they see a large group of enemy aircraft approaching, with what appear to bombs slung underneath each plane.
They start strafing and bombing our ships, while another group of enemy fighters is reported to be fighting closer to the island.

Ruger watches through his binoculars as his aircover is cut to pieces by the enemy aircraft, the enemy planes having their machine guns mounted up front and apparently have developed a way to fire in between their propellers. Their fighters also appear to have closed cockpits and are faster and more manueverable than our own craft. They look like pic related.

Varkas orders the fleet around the island as they continue to get pounded by the enemy aircraft, the ships machine guns and marine rifleman doing little to stop the incessant bombing and strafing attacks.

Whats the plan now?
>>
>>33439087
find the enemy carriers ASAP

shell the waters around our ships, see if the seaspray can give us some cover/hazard the enemy aircraft
>>
>>33439087
We're not equipped for this. Let's back off for now, but give detailed descriptions of their technologies to our scientists for reproduction.
>>
>>33439186
>>33439172
We have hydromancers create a mist around the fleet while it regroups and falls back around the island, when one of the hydromancers has the idea to create mist and then freeze it, disabling the enemy planes and forcing them down. This works for a few minutes, tiring out the hydromancers but protecting our fleet and downing a dozen enemy planes. Meanwhile the survivors from the first wave of planes we deployed report that the enemy carriers are a few miles behind the rest of the fleet surrounded by some smaller ships that appear to be equipped with high angle guns and machine guns, some of their strange guns create black clouds that seem to destroy any plane caught flying through one.

Shall we deploy another wave of planes and attempt to get at the enemy carriers?
>>
>>33439303
do it, send our fastest ships in ahead of them to support the attack as well

how's the island holding up?
>>
>>33439349
The ground troops have machine guns and are entrenched minimized the effects of airstrikes on them, however they are succeeding at harassing our artillery and maintaining air superiority around the island
>>
>>33439349
You deploy the aircraft along with several light cruisers to make a run at the enemy carriers, using the rest of the fleet as a distraction while the taskforce flanks around and strikes at the enemy carriers. The light cruisers engage the enemy flak boats, sinking several of them as the planes commence dive bombing operations on the enemy carriers. The tactic begins to work as Ruger can see with his scope from a distance one of the enemy carriers sinking and 2 more significantly damaged when the enemy fighters and some of their ships break off from the main engagement, the enemy fighters shooting down our surviving aircraft and either sinking or disabling our light cruisers for the enemy to sink easily.

Ruger has a sinking feeling in his stomach as he sees the task force utterly destroyed along with almost every plane we have except for a few reserve squadrons
>>
>>33439603
Send the reserve planes to Kamikaze the fuck out of their ships.
>>
>>33439603
how many carriers do they have left?
>>
>>33439717
They 7 carriers left, we sunk one and crippled 2 with torpedo strikes.
>>
>>33439707
Fuck no.
Well... maybe? Don't send all of them, and load up the planes with as much explosives as they can carry.
>>
>>33439707
>>33439758
why the fuck not, our planes are as good as dead anyways, and our air defense non existent

fuck it get in close and board the surviving carriers if we can
>>
>>33439820
>>33439758
>>33439707
The remaining squadrons are flown by volunteers, with the gunner positions removed to make more room for explosives. They are part of a plan where part of the squadron will move in to help the fleet in battle as a diversion while the kamikaze group strikes at the enemy carriers.

The diversion works and the kamikazes make their way to the enemy carriers, unfortunatedly half are shot down on approach by enemy flakboats but the rest find their marks, leaving the enemy with just 2 carriers afloat after starting the battle with 8. The rest of the fleet continues to duke it out, but comes out on the losing side, leaving our fleet with half the ships sunk and another quarter crippled, even though the enemy fleet is much better off, with at least a third of their number sunk and many of their ships clearly limping to stay in formation
>>
>>33439971
What now?
>>
>>33439971
take pictographs of the sunk and surviving flattops anything that will give us design insights, survivors get in range of coastal batteries to cover our retreat, scoop up some of the downed enemy fighters for study.

prepare reparation payments to the allied nations to keep them from dropping out of the war
>>
>>33440106
You have the men recover wreckage from planes shot down over the island and have the fleet pull back under cover from the coastal batteries. You also have all officers from the naval battle write down what they saw and attempt to draw some of the enemies technology to give our engineers and scientists the best chance they have to reverse engineer the technology. With the loss of a large portion of their fleet, the enemy seems to have moved off and pulled back beyond our sight, at least for now. However we know that they control the massive continent and likely have a lot of resources to rely upon.

Alright guys I think thats all I got for the night. Ill try to pick it up again tomorrow.
