What are some good TPKs for groups who forget to set up a watch while sleeping in the woods at night?
>>53694560
>[whatever monsters inhabit the forest] sneak up and kill your party while they sleep.
It's kind of straightforward.
>>53694560
Sudden rainfall and flooding
>>53694560
No need for a TPK per se. Have a random low-level monster attack and handwave the coup-de-grace to put him no lower than 0 HP.
Then let the screams and gurgles from trying to hold his throat shut wake the rest of the party. They won't fuck up twice.
How much does magic, magical energies, and magical effects impact on the development of newborns? Would casting a number of spells on a pregnant woman on an adventure have an adverse effect on her child, for instance?
Or if you were to cast Enlarge Person on two goblins and make it permanent, would any children they have also be larger than normal? Could you breed an army of quickly reproducing giants that way?
>>53694516
Depends on the edition.
>>53694516
Depends on the system, depends on the setting, depends on the magic user, type of magic, intent of the magic, potential of the magic, and lore, and much much more.
This is how you can use "a wizard did it" for a plot device. Because it could literally be anything within or outside the realm of in game or out of game reality.
>>53694592
>>53694779
I can't on top of my headcome up with a single system, setting, edition, or a type of magic that'ddelve deep enough in the matter to have any kind of an answer, meaning odds are pretty damb good you're just allowed to come up with your own interpretations to them.
>it could literally be anything within or outside the realm of in game or out of game reality
See, doesn't this statement, the whole "A wizard did it" statement, directly contradict everything that says "Depends on X" and render it null? Because it does in fact not depend on those things, it's just magic being weird.
Have you ever created an undefeatable enemy for your players?
why would you do that

After several years of D&D 3.5e - and having quite a lot of fun, thanks for asking - our group moved on to Pathfinder, and for the most part we've found it to compare itself favorably to its predecessor. It appears to have many improvements to be easily seen: martial classes get to have a bunch of new class abilities and improvements, consolidated skills and vastly superior trained skill system, easier combat maneuvers, and such. It's hard to see how it could be worse than its predecessor in any way, but following the related /tg/ discussions, that does seem to be the case.
Could you sum up the things 3.5e managed better than PF does, and perhaps how you would have improved them instead or how you would still maintain them in your PF game?Disclaimer: We're all fully aware of the numerous faults of both systems and occasionally play other things. We have, in fact, tried to not play D&D, before anyone asks.
>>53693434
It's not that 3.5 did anything distinctly better, it's that for all its improvements PF didn't really fix any of the core problems with the system. It's a coat of paint and a weak set of houserules, nothing more.
>>53693434
Cool shit classes can do. 3.5 only actually had a few years of innovation, they spent 2000-2005 being idiots and refusing to learn, then eventually wised up and started bringing out stuff like the binder, book of nine swords, dragonfire adept - even the shit they did badly like incarnum had huge potential.
>>53693434
The only advantage I can think of for 3.5 is the absolutely huge amount of books so there's tons of content to find exactly what you want. On the other hand that's a DM's nightmare because it means telling players they can't use every splatbook.
And 3.5 is compatible with PF anyway so even if you have a favorite class or spell or whatever you can always port it over.
Do there exist any run and gun style rpgs where moment is a free action on your turn? So you can shoot and reload and such while in motion, like in a good 90s shooter or throwback thereof?
>>53692975
Just houserule it.
Savage Worlds allows precisely that, by accepting a penalty to your shooting rolls - a negligible one, for any proper gunslinger. It's also a direct descendant of the venerable Deadlands western, which may have done the same thing, I don't quite remember.
>>53692975
RPG's with abstract movement mechanics might suit. Zone based systems assume that any movement within a zone is free and automatic, with it only taking an action if you're moving between zones.
I'm a gnome wizard who just hit 8th level and I was wondering if I could get some tips on how to maximise my power and damage dealing ability.
I am playing a bit of an unusual campaign so here's a couple things you need to know:
>I have many wondrous items such as a cloak of greater invis and a portable hole, plus a spell storing ring with 4 levels of storage, and access to more if I really need something and it's not too broken
>I am allowed to buy spells for 100gp per spell level
>I am wealthy af with 45k after buying essentially every spell 4th level and under plus the portable hole
>Party is me, a goolock, a rogue and a cleric
>I am lord of a 265,000 sq mile nation with an army of men roughly 2500 in size plus I have recognised a group of 'enlightened' kobolds and goblins 9000 strong as people (for the first time in history) and they will fight for me too
>I will be fighting dragons of many colours, and at least one 20th level uber wizard probably 2 or 3 though
>Wish can not help me
Cheers
Oh also I have really high skills and 68hp

Stopped reading there. You're powerful enough. Just use shitty spells like time stop and create plane to do whatever you want.

Have you ever made a character who was a ripoff/expy of another character from media? Or from folklore/mythology? Tell us about it.

>Ruling is hard. This was maybe my answer to Tolkien, whom, as much as I admire him, I do quibble with. Lord of the Rings had a very medieval philosophy: that if the king was a good man, the land would prosper. We look at real history and it’s not that simple. Tolkien can say that Aragorn became king and reigned for a hundred years, and he was wise and good. But Tolkien doesn’t ask the question: What was Aragorn’s tax policy? Did he maintain a standing army? What did he do in times of flood and famine? And what about all these orcs? By the end of the war, Sauron is gone but all of the orcs aren’t gone – they’re in the mountains. Did Aragorn pursue a policy of systematic genocide and kill them? Even the little baby orcs, in their little orc cradles?
Yes, yes, we know already. We get at least two of these a week. Fuck off.
We're going to have a yet another shitfest aboit justifiable genocide, aren't we?
Let's not. I can guarantee nothing new will be said and no one will change their minds. It'll just bea waste of time for everyone.
Justback away from the keyboard and go back to whatever generals we like to frequent, all right?
>>53691052
>Did Aragorn pursue a policy of systematic genocide and kill them? Even the little baby orcs, in their little orc cradles?
Yes, Martin, because Orcs were created by an evil god as a perverse mockery of life and likely only appeared alive at all because he infused their bodies with parts of his unquestionably evil soul.

[Generic & Noncommital Shitposting Statement]
Reposting for more feedback!
In Yūsha Gojo Kumiai Kōryūgata Keijiban what sort of feats can a level 10 Magician actually accomplish? Specifically how potent can their abilities be and what sort of magnitude does their magic have?
Whats the best system for a modern setting?
As in full modern, guns, electronics, Vb3r h4x0rs, exc?
>>53690128
SpyCraft. It's ad20 game.
>>53690128
depends entirely on what kind of campaign are you going for. In general GURPS is recommended a lot thanks to it's modularity, but you can refluff cyberpunk 2020 to work. Play Twilight 2000 if you want an apocalyptic campaign, run Phoenix Command if you want an intensely realistic campaign (the system is a bit dated though). Gonna need more information for a good recommendation Anon.
>>53691046
>It's a d20 game
/tg/ newfag here, is that considered bad round these parts?
How would you build a Persona tabletop rpg?
>>53689650
If you pop over to the ORE general we can give you our current build of our persona module.
It uses a modified version of the monsters and other childish things system, which is basically persona.
If you check the archive, the last thread was basically entirely about this question
The same question every single day. Is this a meme how?
Futaba is objectively best girl
SO guys we know good channels but what are the Worst one
For me Arch warhammer is one expamle asaside form lore videos( and some of them are shit anyway)

Mwg.
Almost like them.
But it's their job, and they're constantly getting the rules wrong. Not occasionally, with obscure shit only...
And that's coming from me, someone yet to field an army. And only taken an interest at all in the last two years. Relying entirely on pirated rules sources.
Sure my head isn't full of previous editions which may or may not conflict with the current game.
But they were getting 7th edition wrong after how many years?
Again, it's their job. They can have the rules in front of them. If they're unsure, check.
It's almost like they haven't read the rules at all.
>the fact they've been releasing 8th batreps using power levels instead of points, kind of suggests they're not putting much thought into it...

>the fact they've been releasing 8th batreps using power levels instead of points, kind of suggests they're not putting much thought into it...
This was probably to get an 8th edition batrep out ASAP in order to get more views and subscriptions to the vault pushed by hype.
>>53689795
I like them, but I agree, they fuck up a ton.
Every other channel that could be considered bad is low budget and not worth picking on.
