First for Nova did nothing wrong.

I'd personally use a modification of the Starship Troopers RPG since it already has rules for psychics, and Aracnids can be altered to be zerg. It's d20 though, so I'd probably use an altered Only War instead.

Seems like they tossed this out to calm people who are worried about the fluff being unrecognizable. This is pretty much exactly what happened to Arasou in the base timeline, though IIRC Toturi didn't get called out from the monastery until after Arasou got himself killed. Toturi is also still personal friends with Crane Clan champ. Though I don't think Hotrui personally killed Araousu, Tsuko is still a massive ragebitch and they name dropped Gohei, Aketoki, and Motso, so we expect some of old staple chars to make it into the game.

As a Crab that's got me drooling a bit for Amoro...

Let's say Orcs unify their tribes and BTFO humans and elves to form an Orc empire. What would it be like?

I'd like to imagine it as a mix of Turkish and Mongol culture.

Forgotten Realms has a lot of things to dislike in it, sure, but it's got a pretty good example of this in the kingdom of Many-Arrows. You could look it up for ideas. Maybe also Orsinium from the Elder Scrolls.

What you just said sounds good enough, but given how chaotic and warlike orcs tend to being, I don't see it lasting very long before it collapses.

I actually love to invoke the various steppe cultures for Orcs as I think they're fascinating, alien to most people, but fantastic too. Not just Turkish and Mongol, but Scythian and the like.

I have an RPG I am designing, player characters are made entirely by their skills, no classes. There are 10 "skills" for magic, all of them are the spell schools, which are :

Fire & Light
Earth & Nature
Water & Ice
Air & Lightning
Shadow & Illusion
Metal & Transmutation
Necromancy & Enchantment
Abjuration & Healing
Motion & Levitation
Conjuration & Scrying

When you cast a spell, you describe what you are doing, the GM decides if it's easy, normal or hard to do, and says how much mana it uses. The weakest possible spells use 1 mana, which are known as level 1 spells, the most powerful are level 5, using 15 mana.
I'd like some suggestions for what spell effects can be cast at what level, and what is hard and what is easy for a spell school do to, an example being that Fire & Light it's easier to fuel wild and uncontrolled blasts of fire, rather than controlled bolts and balls.
Currently, only the first 4 spell schools deal direct damage, with Abjuration and Healing only doing damage to undead.

Is Enchantment in this case like controlling peoples minds or is it more like enchanting items? Either way I like the paired schools you have there, they go together pretty well.

It is mind control, fear and nightmares. But it can also be used for messages, making people forget and so on.
It's mostly "dark" magic, removing free will.

Linger around /tg/ for a while? A thread where people list their favorite games can be helpful. I don't know of any sort of comprehensive list of RPGs, and even if there were, it would either have too many games on it (many very obscure) to be very useful, or there would be controversy over which games got included or excluded.

Looking over gaming stats for places like Roll20 might be helpful too (see pic), though one thing you'll learn is how much a few games dominate the market, so while you may find the games most folks are playing, you're not going to see most of the games that folks are playing, if you see what I'm saying. Most games won't get a mention.

The GUMSHOE engine is very good for mystery games in my experiance, there are a few systems which use it, maybe have a look though them and see which one fits what you have in mind the best.
