I know most people on /tg/ want to make their fantasy setting word for word like Tolkien or 'low fantasy like game of thrones!' but what about settings where Wizards are relatively common?
>>53980685
The more common the wizards are, the more commonplace magic is. The more commonplace magic is, the more boring it is.
Just look at things like Forgotten Realms to see how well it turns out.
game of thrones is high fantasy you dumbasses should be banned
>>53980790
Yeah. It has more overt magic in it than Lord of the Rings
A setting where everyone lives and works for a single bureaucracy. Every guild, farm, bank, tavern, blacksmith, etc. is apart of the same organization, the only people who are not apart of this system are criminals. The state is made up of several ministries, all of which work together to make sure shit functions (one ministry looks after growing the food, another looks after moving the food, another looks after selling the food and another makes sure none of the food is stolen by bandits). No one wants to get rid of the bureaucracy because it was created and given to humanity by the gods themselves.
What kind of adventures could be had in such a setting. Does this kind of setting offer anything that a standard feudal style setting doesn't?
>>53980406
>adventures in USSR
no such luck
>>53980429
Pretty sure the adventurers would just be fantasy KGB
>>53980435
that was my initial though.

RP Rules, CYOA and Info Below
>>53979939
>Hey. I tried something like this in the CYOA thread and there was enough interest in forming teams and shit as characters I decided to make this into an entire thread on its own. Basically you use the Worm CYOA to make yourself a superhero and join a team. The goal of this thread is not to build super OP characters, but build interesting characters who would work together in teams. Compared to the regular CYOA this is a low-power game. The CYOA itself is super easy to break, so there’s a few rules to go along with it to maintain the theme of the thread, keep things balanced and prevent this thread from turning into a race to make the most OP character possible.
>The setting itself is Metropolis, a typical extra-large New York sandbox rip-off. Even though it’s all the same setting you can pick Gestation, the Golden Age or Worthless Opponent as your scenario, but it won’t mean much more than a difference in starting points. Canon characters – Contessa, Skitter, Eidolon, Glaistig Uaine, etc – don’t exist in Metropolis. Every organisation mentioned in the CYOA still exists, but with none of the canon characters in it and they are based out of Metropolis. The Protectorate and the Wards still exist, as does the PRT. The Guild is not Canadian. The Undersiders are pre-Taylor heisters. The ABB and E88 are locked in a turf war and the Merchants sell drugs to homeless people. S9 exists and you can be in it, but you’ll probably end up with a kill order on you.
>>53979945
>1) Duplicate powers don’t stack. Two people with power fluctuation standing next to each other would not buff each other’s power fluctuations. This is to stop the most OP builds.
>2) You can only spend a maximum of 15 Shard points on powers. This includes the 3S it takes to upgrade a power to its second trigger. This rule is in place to stop people building characters with a million high S powers (vigilantes I’m looking at you) or who are otherwise obscenely broken – Worm parahumans are closer to being x-men than justice leaguers in power level. It also stops everyone from taking a million flaws to get ridiculous powers. We can’t all be vagrants who got kidnapped and tortured by S9 and Ziz. Conspirators are the exception to this rule – they can spend up to 20 points on powers (perks of being cauldron).
>3) No Abaddon shards, Trump second triggers, or Negentropy. No-one has Abaddon shards in canon Worm and this is a low power game anyway. Negentropy is a no go because the entities lose all incentive to hand out powers if they’ve developed immortality. If you’re upset because “muh immortality” keep in mind as a parahuman you’re unlikely to live for much longer than a decade anyway (life in spandex is violent and short). Trump second triggers are broken. All of them.
>4) No more than 3 Endbringers at a time. First come first served, and you play like canon Endbringers – you periodically show up to wreck everybody’s shit.
>5) I’m thinking of making this into a proper RP if I can find a decent place to host it. No drop-ins or gifts – let’s keep it in-character.
>>53979962
>A few final notes:
>Case 53 flaw x1 = you are a human with a few extra parts, like elf ears, feathers in your hair, weird pupils/irises/sclera, extra fingers etc. Think Canary from canon.
>Case 53 Flaw x2 = you are still recognisably humanoid, but not as a “human”. Think Gully or Weld from canon – you genuinely look like a monster and ordinary humans might be nervous or quick to judge you.
>Case 53 x3 = you are no longer recognisable as human. Think Garotte or Mantellum from canon. People who see you will think you’re a monster and may run screaming from you.
>Having a kill order on you means you did something truly horrific or awful, or have repeatedly shown yourself to be too dangerous to be safely apprehended by the authorities. In short, you’ve killed people and as a result there's a fuckhueg bounty on you, which anyone - from heroes to sinister villains to rule-breaking vigilantes to every yahoo with a gun - can collect on, with no questions asked an no attempts to arrest them. They just stroll into Protectorate HQ, drop off your severed head, get given their money and walk out, even if they're a wanted felon.
ITT post pulpy/classical inspired fantasy art
what purpose did a bank serve in medieval and renaissance periods?
why not just put your gold in a safe box or chest?
Credit.
bank already has a shitload of guards
maybe you cant afford to hire guards
interest makes your cash grow, while giving it to bank to lend out was better for the economy than letting it stagnate in a box
it was likely safer in a bank, as well
and banks dont just hold, they also lend, that is what gives people capital to start up
if you want a bank to lend, first you gotta give them money for them to hold
the knights templar also ran a bank, where they would issue bank notes, so you could deposit silver with your local templar, take your bank note to the next town, and withdraw silver there, no need to carry all your coin with you
So /tg/ how would you write story hooks for a campaign where the players are bandits?
>You are bandits and attack a cart.
>Cart is weaponized, and you have to wait for them to let their guard down which happens fairly regularly as you follow the cart.
>If you attack the cart while their guard is down, the cart owners will run away.
>The cart was stolen by other bandita, now your bandit groups are fighting back and forth over the cart.
>Rewards can be earned by successfully stealing the cart, returning the cart to a town to sell, and/or turning the bandits in.
>You accedentally attack a cart hiding a princess that was being kidnapped, but now the kingdom is looking for you to exacute your party. Maybe the princess is mute by some un known magic, so that though she trusts the bandit party she can't help you if caught.
>A member of the bandit party is actually the rightful hier to the throne and he finds out while the throne is being sat by an evil mad king
>You are part of a larger bandit guild but the leaders have secretly put a crux on every other member of the guild turning them into a small extremely well trained army with aims to over throw thw crown, but the party was somehow immune to the crux and is the only hope to save the crown and the members of the guild
I don't know if I'm any goood scenarios, but thats the first ideas that come to mind
>>53979554
Similar to any Shadowrun campaign, only medieval version
What's /tg/'s opinion on comically large weapons?
Personally, I think they're a hilarious character gimmick that can be badass if done right.
>>53979315
The character has to either be buff as hell or superhuman in some way, but otherwise it can be good fun.
>>53979315
Feels too anime for my tastes.
>>53979315
>a hilarious character gimmick that can be badass if done right.
True of literally every single gimmick. Every single retarded trope in gaming can be, and has been, awesome when it's done correctly. The problem is the people who do it wrong.

S'up, fellow fags. I need some art of necromancers, and other undead PC stuff. Assist me, please! For now, I dump- somewhat slowly because lel no-4chan-pass.
We all know standard European magic and weird shaman spiritcalling stuff, but what sort of magical themes and ideas should found the basis for Eastern and Middle-Eastern magic?
Necromancy

Nagash is not black. Nekeharans are Egyptians.

Probably healing magic or deceptive (sometimes dangerous) illusionary magic
Continuation of the Descendant world.
As before, there is only one rule: No contradictions, the statement which was first stays, unless it was really, really shitty.

A-anyone home?
What do we need to add?
Also I find that part unrealitic and unpractical. "The prime currency among elves are sex slaves, valued for appearance, age, and taste of those involved with the trade. Wealthy elves own sex slaves farm where they breed the cream of the crop together to increase the next generation’s value."

Hey, Everyone shitted on whoever decided to shit on the thread with that too.
The world is mostly for inspiration of magic/sci fi/post apocalypse anyways,
But hey, for what its worth, Ill say we cut it out too.

What are your opinions on firearms in D&D, whether they be the options included in the DMG, Matt Mercer's popular Gunsmith homebrew, the Artificer gunsmith, or even just the principle of it? Have you ever played a game that implemented firearms? How can one make (cross)bows and guns mechanically distinct while still keeping them balanced?
>>53976871
Guns are neat but they can't be well balanced with everything else unless they're just reskinned crossbows.
I have another good topic of discussion. What are your most creative uses of cantrips? Bonus points for combos.
>>53976920
>What are your most creative uses of cantrips?
My players were sneaking through a goblin compound and were rummaging through a room full of loot when a goblin came by and noticed them from inside the doorway. The goblin screams, pulls its sword, and takes a half-step into the room when the Cleric uses thaumaturgy to "instantaneously cause an unlocked door...to...slam shut" right on the goblin's face.
Everything lined up so perfectly that I let it knock the goblin back in a daze, and since the door got slammed shut, the players barricaded themselves inside to formulate a plan now that they had been caught.
Why haven't you banned variant humans from your games, /5eg/?
