Actually... yeah that could make complete sense. But in my mind it would have to be well before the age of strife, probably when humanity first left for the stars. It's possible - ever here about the Event Horizon headcannon? However, there are a lot of sticking points - if humanity abandoned Earth that Was, how did that become Holy Terra? Leftovers from a Fae invasion. Modern elves are descended from the mindless puppets and beasts of burden of the Gentry, and are still super alien in mind and to a lesser extent in body. Have weird narrative fae powers and maybe can't die, but are bound by their roles and are possibly nonsentient

Ravaged, people from other races taken by the Fae/Elves and fed on. Crazy as fuck and half-dead, but more tied into reality so their fae powers pack much more of a punch

Most look like scary demon boar men due to their primary creator being a giant cosmic boar, but clans that devote themselves to one of the other Titans change forms. They could send expeditions to found out new place to build cities but after a while those cities become a newly city-state instead of a province from its parent.

Ironically I was thinking of using the few lizardmen I had around as chaos worshipping minor xenos to have a skirmish-style game going with a friend of mine. They would have a few guys and then summon demons while fighting against the DW

I've never read Order of the Stick, but for the longest time, whenever I see it posted on /tg/, they're still on that airship. Is this comic even good or do people still read it because you're 1000+ pages in and you might as well keep going?

Comic's alright.

It just moves at a snail's pace because the creator hurt his hand, and uses that as an excuse to not be able to draw more than one stick figure a month. That, coupled with his need to over explain even the smallest detail, and his forum's need to overexamine the story and take every single thing that's said in the comic as literally as possible, to the point where they once thought a character was half angel because somebody said "She's in heaven now" in relation to that kid's parent being dead. leads to the comic taking fucking years to do even the most trivial tasks.

It's legitimately a fun fantasy adventure story. Recent arcs have been overly decompressed when compared to the earlier parts of the comic, though, which seems to be a common affliction for webcomics.

I'd recommend talking to both DMs and seeing what happens.

3.5 has a high chance of being an autistic shitshow, but that doesn't mean the GURPS guys won't be just as bad.

I'd take the experienced GM, mainly because if the campaign starts to derail he will most likely have the capacity to get it back on track. If the GURPS guy is also rather experienced then I I'd suggest getting an idea of what kind of campaign both GMs are planning and see which one seems the most fun for you. This is my advice to you good sir/madame/attack helicopter, in return you must conduct story times if anything interesting happens. Best of luck on your adventures!

Malazan, pretty much. Most battles consist of the magic users cancelling each other out, with the occasional volley landing through a squad or platoon of men. When the magic users are unbalanced, battalions are destroyed. When there are no opposing magic users, armies vanish entirely--or more likely simply surrender/run.

Well, an argument could be made that "armies" as we think of them wouldn't happen.

Large-scale battle tactics are largely a function of shields, melee weapons, and personal ranged weapons becoming more effective in formations. To grossly oversimplify, think of two opposing shield walls forming a battle line. There will be attrition over time, but the losers will almost certainly be the first army to break formation or get flanked.

Casters flip this upside down, though. The tighter packed the enemy are the more value they can get out of AoEs, encouraging each side to spread out as much as possible to prevent this. As a result, the "field as many people as you can at once" concept seems less likely to catch on as a valid method.

Personally I think its more likely that you'd see some form of platoon/fireteam structure based on fielding mixed-role units of 8-12 individuals more focused on being able to set up interlocking fields of fire than on advancing a battle line.

So less Agincourt/Gettysburg and more Danang/Baghdad.

Incidentally, and suggestively, if you shrunk the numbers a bit and tossed in a melee frontliner, medic, and an a scout/infiltrator it starts to look suspiciously like your average adventuring party.
