Yes, in one of the early battles of the Octarius War the Orks shot down all the Tyranid ships, but after the swarm won the battle on the ground it ate the planet and used the biomass to make new ships.

this is why the whole story about the blood angels destroying hundreds of splinter fleets pissed me off. If a single ship goes under the radar, and drops its guts on a world, it is a borderline impossible mission to shift them. Even Ichar IV is likely still getting a tyranid insurgency every once in a while.

If monstergirls are apparently /tg/-kosher, so long as any attendant artwork doesn't break the Blue Board rules, then what are ways that a DM could legitimately include monstergirl races in their setting without turning it into an outright ERP or Magical Realm?

Also, if an anon wanted to try their hand at homebrewing MG races for D&D 5e, what'd be the better starting point? Make 'em up from the start? Use the MGE as a basis, if getting rid of KC's crappier fluff? Or mix and match MGE inspiration with original ideas?

I'd say just play it straight, but try to cut out more of the "feeds on semen" details.

For homebrewing races I'm pretty sure there's a guide somewhere, but if you wanna do it yourself I suggest looking at the other races and making something of a similar power level with relevant bonuses

Usually, only upgrade I really do is foamcore inserts. Other than that, I upgraded my eldritch horror with nifty transparent colored dice (because the dice were cheap, and you need a bucket of them so each player having a set is convenient) and I added a bunch of plastic brains (from a really shitty game, Mmm... Brains) to zombie dice because fuck scoresheets.

I also painted a bunch of my games, but my painting is so shit that's almost a downgrade.

That's a pretty common trope in the xianxia genre of fantasy fiction popular in China. Cultivators go out into the wilderness and fight weird monsters not just to train their skills but because those monsters either can be turned into chi-promoting elixirs or guard rare herbs that can be. It's pretty common to have entire plot arcs about acquiring ingredients and refining them into pills and potions, with there being specialized techniques just for processing a particular medicine. It can be pretty cool stuff, when done right. Done wrong it gets bogged down into endless training montages and power wank, but the potential is there.

Bohrok: Ex-Matoran (the civilians of the setting) whose destiny involves being mutated into a purging machine.
Bohrok are already powerful alone with the powers of fire, water, acid, stone, ice, and earth. Together they are a menace controlled by an organic mask-like creature called a "Krana" that grants an extra power and a link to the swarm's hive-mind.
The Bohrok are programmed to purge the entire island of Mata Nui to awaken the Great Spirit Mata Nui (A lesser god of the setting).

Learn how to play from several people, go to a draft for $15 (DO NOT do "rare redraft" unless you like getting shit for prizes), then tell people you're new. You'll get a huge pile of shit people already have 8 copies of.

When you actually know how to play and what your style is, go find a decklist and buy it off TCGplayer.com or whatever. Probably cost you a couple hundred bucks unless you open something good at draft.

This depends wholly on who you will be playing with.

If you have friends that currently play Magic, you will want to start playing the same format(s) they do or if you are just looking to start going to Friday Night Magic at your local game store then you can just stick with Standard, etc.

Each format has its own type of pricing but you can go budget and still have fun in any format.

My best advice is this - regardless of what you decide to play, SET YOURSELF A BUDGET and don't go over it. You can spend tons of money on Magic in a heartbeat.

I started playing in Beta (1994) and took a 10 year break from Magic after selling my entire collection (Mirrodin to Innistrad) and with a budget of $50.00 per month I now have all of the cards that I "missed" and I have several tier 1 / 2 Legacy and Modern decks built along with tons of casual stuff. Yes, it took 3 years or so to do that but the point is don't drop $1000 bucks to play a format you don't even know if you like up front.

For absolute starters, do drafts at a local store. They are generally casual and you get to have fun and keep the cards you draft with. Often players will give you the leftover commons / uncommons that they already have like 20 of if you say you are just starting out.

Don't listen to the other guy. Your local game store should have free intro decks. These are 30 card decks meant to be played against each other. Grab a couple of them and try playing with a friend.

Once you get comfortable with that you can go to a draft (~15$) or just buy some packs and upgrade the decks that you got for free.

Getting into magic is super cheap assuming you're not heading into competitive
