DMs and worldbuilders: tell me about the elves and dwarves in your campaign.
Do they fit the cliche or do they have some unique characteristics?
I have no problem writing about human kingdoms and empires but I really struggle with elves and dwarves in particular. I find both to be boring and uninspired due to the number of Tolkien clones out there.
If you don't want to use them, why do they need to be a part of your game? You're not bound to making sure every available fantasy race is even present in your world, I personally never include Dragonborn and Tieflings in D&D.
My setting has a race of golems that started out as Dwarves when I first started snowballing ideas for the setting but they're pretty far removed from those origins now.
The first Dwarf was made by a great Earth elemental. He moulded it from clay and plucked a handful of hair from his own head to make its beard. That divine spark from even just the elemental's hair follicles was enough to give the Dwarf mortal life, ambition, heart and soul.
Dwarves inherited from their creator the drive to shape and mould the Earth, and the mortal need to procreate. The first Dwarf's beard grew, and from its trimmings he created more clay progeny.
This goes on for a couple of hundered years with the clay Dwarves carving out their city into the mountain and getting their metallurgy on. Tougher Dwarves are hewn from stone and eventually bronze and iron and even more exotic metals and minerals.
Now there's clay Dwarf zealots that believe any other kind of Dwarf is blasphemy, and caste tensions between the different constructions of Dwarf.
I'm a player in this game, not the DM, but in the game I'm in right now the Dwarves have decided that since all the other races were susceptible to the temptations of evil, that they should genocide them all and cleanse the universe and make it good and pure. So the dwarves are fighting everybody else and the dwarven gods are fighting all the other gods, so this has led to an uneasy alliance among the other gods and races. So we are good pcs fighting against the genocidal dwarves with orcs, devils and all sorts of other evil guys as or allies.

If you're willing to ally with devils, the dwarves are probably right.
So /tg/ i am trying to think up some home brew stats and appearances for daemons of Gork and mork for a codex but how would you handle ork daemons without making them overpowered and overpriced

good stats but difficult to control
>>54024396
They already exist, we call them___Orks___

this, very wild and savage and liable to fuck up your own guys
Are there any games that have Mongoose Traveller-style character creation or perhaps supplements that let you play genres other than generic space opera?
Lifepath systems? There's a few around.
Burning Wheel has a sort of lifepath system, for one, although it's taken all the fun out and turned it into an exercise in advanced accounting.
Both editions of Cyberpunk used a lifepath approach, as does the most recent Battletech RPG.
The (very) old Ringworld RPG, taking cues from Traveller and having to deal with characters up to two centuries old, used a lifepath system that was less than fun past about 60.
Two system generic books published, I think, by Flying Buffalo were lifepath generators that could be tacked onto whatever game you liked. One book was fantasy, the other SF.
Homebrew elves
>Physiological dependency on Mana
>Mesopotamian stylings on ancient Egypt in stylings on druid/forest stylings
>Political distant and insular
>Undying, immortal unless violent ends met
>Ingame player caused magical cataclysm breaks magic, cuts off lower half of continent from usual magic flow for extended period
>Many elves tainted by demonic tutors speed the culture of worship to Mana starved dying elves
>Roving bands of demon tainted elves invading kingdom to the north, warlocks abound
Did I accidentally recreate WoW blood elves?
You just created shit elves.

Same thing.

Should have stopped reading here
>Mesopotamian stylings on ancient Egypt in stylings on druid/forest stylings
Did stop reading here.
And why don't we see it employed more often?
>>54022707
It's pretty rare, since usually an army gets to use it only once.Fuck me, I bit the bait
>>54022707
Its called "Fucking up your ally's formation and sending your man to the slaughter just to look cool"
>>54022707
It's the "don't steal my kill you dwarf fuck" formation. Better hope you don't fuck it up because those dwarves aren't going to be moving those shields aside for you to retreat.

>A ranger who was raised in the wild by a group of magical rhino's, doesn't understand civilization and is generally soft spoken and timid unless it concerns members of his "family" who he is devoted to finding and helping.

Instead of humans, there are intelligent hairless apes.
The reason monsters are a thing is becuase there are tears in between our world and a dark murky place known as the abyss.
All monsters are actually crisis actors hired by the government. That orc band somehow forming and sacking a bunch of villages? Purely a distraction so commoners don't realize how badly the nobles are screwing them over. Orcs in the wild are too dumb to wield a weapon, much less run a decent warband... These are just king's own footmen wearing green paint!
No WIP thread on /tg/?!? Emperor's Teeth! That's HERESY!!!

So I picked up that Magic board game, Arena of the Planeswalkers and my group absolutely hates it. We want to repurpose the minis for rpgs, but the bases are not 25mm.
What is my best method of removing the mini from this base? It's all one piece and I'd like to avoid damaging the actual mini
>>54021077
Hold them in boiling water for thirty seconds, then use a hobby knife to cut them off.
>>54021077
I am somewhat experienced with this sort of thing, I got Heroquest and the D&D Fantasy Adventure Boardgame for similar purposes.
You can cut down as much as possible with clippers before using a knife gently around the feet. Alternatively you can cut away enough that the remainder fits on your base of choice, and then use putty to merge the remainder of the integral base in.

>Make a jaded and pessimistic character

>In a month or two, he begrudgingly returns to being a hero, because it's a job that needs to be done, and done properly - and if not him, then who?
Tsundere paladins are the best.
I have almost the exact opposite problem.
My evil characters always end up in heroic, romantic positions.
I wrote a Thalmor with the full intention of producing a genuine Altmer Supremacist Magic Nazi. In the effort to raise the shattered dregs of the Sixth House to become a Monster Cult that will further weaken the empire by returning a nationalist sentiment to Morrowind, however, he ended up playing Fairy God-Father to a down-on-her-luck Dunmer waif who was one of the purest blood descendants of the Sixth House left alive, raising her up from her position as a pauper, making her believe in herself and take pride in her once-noble origins as he transforms her from a slovenly hick in to a cunning Stateswoman and fit figurehead for the New House.
Inadvertently turned the Evil Campaign in to one of the most uplifting, heart-warmingest scenarios I ever did.

Kinda how VtM is supposed to go if players roleplay the loss of Humanity right.
How would a succubi with moderate, shy and loyal to only one human (monogamic sort of say) attitude work without ruining their original purpose?
>>54013946
It couldn't.
Next.
>>54013946
Define original purpose. Do they kill men via sex? Do they seduce otherwise noble men to evil? Or are they just monstergirls that feed non-lethally on men?
