I have been playing 5e for three years and i got bored of needing multiple encounters to dry the players out of their resource so the combat is somewhat challenging, just so they can heal in 8 hours or 4 if they are elves
What game do you guys recommend i play? i thought in changing the game rules but players are so accustomed to how the game plays that i think its better to just change systems

Warhammer fantasy role play second edition
>>54034864
It's not any better than D&D.
Song/Ballad of Swords has good, challenging combat if that's what you're looking for.
>>54034842
>or 4 if they are elves
Elves still need 8 hours for a long rest, dingus.
Try running 5e with the slow natural healing variant, requiring them to spend hit dice to heal on long rests. Makes the game a lot grittier, especially over multiple days.
It's not good, but I can't stop reading it. Does anyone else feel like this?
>>54028466
No. Read something that actually IS good instead.

Goblin Knight himself has a cool look to him, but the story is pretty shit senpai

I'm playing a Kobold Necromancer in an upcoming DnD game.
Despite being neutral-aligned, she is ambitious yet autistic, having poor communicative, reasoning and social skills but being ridiculously intelligent.
I'd like to get creative. Most necromancers go down the path of "Amass minions, become a lich, pine for domination". While that's all well and good, I'd like to take it a step beyond and find some ways to try and have personal aspirations and development that go beyond generic necromancer things.
Whether it be used for the good of the realm or for vicious power-grabs, what are some creative ways I can use the art of undeath and fleshcrafting to shape the world around me?
>>54057344
Sounds pretty cancerous
>>54057344
What ambitions does he have exactly?
>>54057344
Autistic Kobold Necromancer.
I'm struggling.
In an attempt to try and continue a discussion from yesterday,
Imagine that some "Sucked into another world" shit happened, and a modern twenty-something year old guy was whisked away to a generic, tolkien-esque, medieval fantasy world.
What advantages and disadvantages would he have? What would you do? What are some interesting things that would come of this?
>>54057171
If the guy was as well trained, educated, and self-sufficient as Hank Morgan, he'd do as well or better than Hank did. An 'average' guy would probably die in short order.
>>54057311
See, I don't consider myself "above average", nor do I think I'm some great outdoorsman. But I have a highschool level understanding of physics and chemistry, I have a big interest in medieval warfare and historical trivia, and I read a lot of "how-to" articles in Backwoodsman magazines. (Like, I can make a gunpowder substitute out of chicken poop and evaporated urine.)
Do you think your average fa/tg/uy might last longer than someone else?
>>54057171
The literal first thing they will do is get sick and shit their guts out. We tend to gloss over those memories, but most of us are pretty liable to get sick when we go on holiday. That shit would happen ten times over after a trip into the past/to another world.
If you speak a language they locals can understand, and you don't die from illness, your best bet is to get into the good graces with who-ever is leading this place, and be careful to not contradict their weird idiosyncracies. Then maybe start showing them some minor knowledge to wow the yokels, so they'll keep you around, well fed, and generally unstabbed. The best bet for any one of us would be to pass ourselves off as some kind of scholar.
Honestly, the miracle of flight alone should keep them entertained for a few years.
Let's talk magic.
There are 3 main branches of magic with 4 types of spellcasters, each with their own spell-casting identity/gimmick.
>Elementalists
>Mystics/Divines
>Necromancers
There are three types of mediums used for casting spells, plus a unique type of medium exclusive to Necromancers.
>Staff
A big stick that needs to be carried in both hands. Benefits the strength and control of spells, achieving maximum power and success rate
>Wand
A small stick that can be carried in one hand. Same exact function as the staff, but with less effectiveness.
>Books/tomes
Books with knowledge/instructions/tips for spells one might be inexperienced in casting. Books might allow spellcasters to cast certain spells they otherwise wouldn't know, or increase the success rate a spell might have.
>Trinkets - The spellcasting medium for necromancers. Certain spells can only be cast with the appropriate trinket
>*Free-hand
Spells can also be cast without the use of a medium but the power and control over the spell is at it's lowest.
>>54056816
Surely you don't need to hold the tome while casting the spell? It seems like something you'd read and learn from and then leave at home.
The tome is the safest choice for spells people don't know/haven't mastered. You're reading notes while taking a test.
Couldn't a spell caster just use whatever as an arcane focus? Like a an amethyst or a rag doll?
Was Odyssey Block - Onslaught Block the worst Magic art has ever been?
say what you will about shit like Nykthos, but you have to spend some time to point out the bad art. This card just slaps your face with its horribleness
Akroma does not approve of OP or this thread.OP is baitposting
Odyssey has great art though, what the fuck are you smoking
sure the failures look like shit (just like now, or have you forgotten things like press the advantage), but I'm going through page and page of cool and interesting pictures
And unlike nu-magic, they actually have some artistic variation instead of the same fucking chinese art sweatshop hyperrealistic bland ass style on every single card, which weighs even heavier than pure skill (which is why alpha cards can still be fun to look at even though they as a rule are amateurish as all fuck)
What was wrong with nykthos? I forget.
At what point does this conspiracy theory become too crazy?
1. Guillimanhas been Alpharius all along
2. Guilliman goes to Terra with Cypherusing him as a decoy
3. Guilliman thenkills the Emperor
4. Guilliman then declares a crusadewhich the Imperium is totally not prepared to handle given the massive fucking warp tear that just opened up
5. Guilliman does thisto intentionally weaken the Imperium
6. The reason why isAlpharius was working for the Tyranid Hivemind all along
7. Because when the Primarchs got dispersedAlpharius got sent much, much further away than everyone else, got turned into a Hive Mind puppet, and has been playing the longest long game than anyone thought possible, and he's the one that told them how to find our universe
Honestly once you drag the bugs into the mix it gets too out there
>>54052792
So you think 1-5 are plausible?
>>54052760
There must be a way to make this crazier.
Can we all agree that it's confirmed that WOTC hates red? I myself have been optimistic about HOU up until this point. Heck I've always been optimistic during spoiler season, because I always thought Wizards will print some good red card but NOPE, just more and more trash.
This card is too expensive, to restricted, and it still carries the downside the other aggressively costed cars in the "God's Last X" cycles has with none of the good stuff. I mean think about it:
>Bontu's last reckoning is damnation for one less mana
>Oketra's last mercy is a possible 19 point life gain for 3
>Rhonas' last whatever is a 5/4 for 2
>Kefnet's Last Word is a better control magic for the same amount of mana
And then we have Hazoret's undying fury, which is not only comparable to Mind's Desire (a BLUE card), but is vasily worse than it in almost every way possible.
Screw WOTC. I'll start buying your product again once you start making good spells for red again.
Or play on an emul so that you'll wo'nt need to pay
>>54052123
most of the cards in that cycle are garbage, only the black and the green ones seem somewhat decent
>>54053338
PROTIP
The black and blue ones aren't any good either
How do you keep your horror/thriller/surrealist games from descending into absurdity, jokes and ridiculous antics?
I want to do a modern weirdness game similar to Cronenberg's movies (Scanners, et al.) or Twin Peaks but I want the players to take it seriously, not as a xlolrandum show-off absurd-fest.
Make them feel off-guard and uncomfortable, so the only laughter is muted nervous chuckles.
>>54049125
The only way you can do this is by telling the players about it beforehand and making sure they're on board.
If they all want to play a horror game and want to get properly invested, they will. If they don't want to, nothing you can say or do will force them.
But both of the things you mention are absurd-fests.
How do you expect your character to snuff it? What manner of an impression will they give to whoever ends up stumbling into their body in the far future?

My character is going to purposely contract vampirism so he can be with his SO forever.
We have low and high fantasy Warhammer and scifi Warhammer. What would "modern" Warhammer look like?

Every country is run by a dictator. You have a big fascist league headed by US of A versus Communist league headed by china. All the 3rd world countries are run by warlords or ork tribes, who change allegiances constantly. Also earth is being invaded by an alien race of greys who have infiltrated several governments and are ruling by proxy.
Chaos is still chaos

Whether it's Dnd, Pathfinder or some other third thing. What's your favorite role to be for the group?
Personally I like anything that gives me CC and wave clear options.
I really enjoy a support/face combo. I like to heal and buff in combat, and talk my ass off during role play.
>>54048496
I like to be either the sneaky stealthy operator, or the buff strong melee guy.
>>54048514
I wanted to try something like this in DnD 4e. The Skald class seems fun, but I've heard it's a bit underpowered.
But you get a move that's basically you cursing at an enemy and making them feel bad about themselves.

Do we have any idea what Blood Angels successor primaris chapters will be like?
Are death company and sanguinary guard primaris a thing? And do they have the genetic curses?
Personally I like to imagine them as being like the pre-Heresy blood angels legion. Pic related - the schemes are very similar.
>>54043389
The better question is how are the Primaris marines going to fit in with any of the Blood Angels and their successors? Would most of the chads be able to put up with those depressed psychos?
Primaris have no genetic deviations, so no death company and no blood rage
