Why do you refuse to get on the boat? What lurks below the waves waiting for you that terrifies you to your very soul?

First for the truest and purest love goddess Naderi!

Do not fear the boats, though their presence halts plot development, for you are closer to Naderi's damp bosom.

Boats are a trap, pure and simple. You're stuck on a limited amount of space at the whims of a monster who can basically instakill you by pulling you overboard.

>"I've always been interested in D&D but never really got the chance to play"

How often have you heard this line anons? Is this how you started out?
15 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
I don't think I've ever heard that. I had no idea that D&D existed, and one day when I was 12 or so I went over to a buddy's house and he basically just stuck character sheets in front of us and started explaining things
Most people I know got into ttrpgs in a similar way, they weren't interested at all but ended up trying one for some social reason and had fun with it
>>
D&D video games exist

so... no. I've never heard that.
>>
>>54088861
My first exposure was playing 3.5 at summer camp, I had always wanted to play a ttrpg and knew about other systems but at the time it was my only option, loved the campaign but looking back it was really inconsistent and the GM was making shit up as he went but he was permissive enough that the freedom as compared to vista was intoxicating

Why are superhero comics so popular yet superhero RPGs are a tiny little niche?

Conversely, why are fantasy RPGs so popular but fantasy comics are a tiny little niche?

Superheroes were born in comics, fantasy in literature - and literature is basically all just single-player RPGs. They stick to their birthplace.

It's hard to make a fun superhero system.
>Freeform is more suited for the job.

It's hard to make a good fantasy comic.
>They're usually somewhat boring.
>>
Because they are the norms (yes established by NORMies)
When you say tabletop RPG if the normie doesnt go "what?" then chances are they will say D&D.
When you say comic book chances are they will say "oh I love <marvel or DC character>".
They dont delve deep enough, and as such no one really wants to deviate lest their game/comic becomes buried under the norm.

Greetings, /tg/. This might be what is my first post ever made in this board despite having browsed it for a long time now. My issue comes as is:

Lately, I have been dealing with the necessity to create my own systems for various different settings and platforms, mostly to deviate from the most dominant d20 and d10 systems that are either not too much of my liking or have been somewhat repeatedly. Thus, I was trying to make something of my own.

So I had the great idea to use d100's as a main element for my various systems. My question here is: What do you all think could be advantageous for using them? I know some percentual systems and a thread was made the other day regarding the topic, but it didn't extend itself too much.

As examples, I tend to use the d100 within other already existing systems to create situation or shift in circumstance, as well as the classic "bad/good event" many do from time to time, using it to decide things that are normally dependent on the environment and can't be really amounted to the character itself. What else could it work for? Thanks beforehand.

I like that I can tell new players 'your skill is your % chance of succeeding under most circumstances'

It's much easier for them to contextualize than 'your skill is an abstract value that you add to a d20 roll in hopes of hitting an arbitrary target number'

For real though d100 has been done to death and you should definitely read the existing rulesets before making your own
>>
>>54085617
Most people would prefer two d10's rather than one of those golf balls though.
>>
>>54085617
From what I recall of Call of Cthulhu, d100s were used for skills. So basically if your driving skill was 50, rolling under a 50 would be a success. As you level your skill increases, so eventually your driving skill could be 60 and you're now more likely to succeed.

http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Servitor

>While many are vat-grown, often a criminal, particularly one who has offended the Cult Mechanicus, will be sentenced to "Servitude Imperpituis" and will be handed over to the Tech-priests to be mind-wiped, reprogrammed, and cybernetically-enhanced to serve some specific, rudimentary function. Servitors are mindless, possessing only the most basic of instincts. Their brains are programmed to perform only the task they were designed for.

So with that in mind: do servitors created for the sole purpose of sexual pleasure exist in the Imperium?

Actually, coming to think of it, do female servitors exist?

If Intelligence is a measure of raw mental processing potential and Wisdom is supposed to be accumulated or intuited mental experience, skills related to knowledge should be associated with Wisdom and intuition/perception should be associated with Intelligence instead of the other way around.

I think of INT being the ability to learn something new and WIS being the ability to apply what you've learned to a new situation.

Think of it like learning Pythagorean theorem.

Someone with a high int/high wis will learn it very quickly and know exactly it's applications outside of the pen and paper. They would be able to apply it across subject lines (astronomy, geography, physics, engineering, etc.) that they would have also learned quickly.

Someone with a high int/low wis will learn it very quickly but will not know the application of it outside of the pen and paper without the explicit instruction to do so or a past experience that is very similar. They might be able to understand it and use it quite well in the context of engineering, but they would not be able to intuitively come up with the idea to use it to map the distance between stars without being told that it can be used that way,

Someone with a low int/high wis will take a very long time to learn it, but once they do, they understand the applications of it. They might learn it for engineering, but once they start learning astronomy they will be able to apply their learned knowledge without much effort across these subjects. However, them getting to the point where they can do this will take a lot more time.

Someone with low int/high wis will take a very long time to learn something and be unable to translate that knowledge across subject matters.

To be quite honest I hate how most people treat INT/WIS, since they think that because they have high INT/WIS they know everything and can teach every subject in university the instant they set foot into the classroom, even if they've never had any exposure to that subject before.
>>
>>54079848

I prefer Int = book learn'n and Wis = life experience.
