When was the last time your adventures took you into space?
Which is the better spell, Shield or Mage Armor? I argue Shield because you can cast it as a reaction, it blocks magic missile, and you only have to use it when and if you need it, so you can save a spell slot for something else. I ask because I'm making a Wizard for a new game I'm getting into, and I don't have any protection spells, but I'm thinking of taking one just to be safe. Are either Shield or Mage Armor really necessary?
>>54096492
Why not both?
Both are only necessary if your DM really hates you / you keep putting yourself into situations where you get attacked.
A good wizard shouldn't be attacked in the first place.
>>54096492
Play LMoP and get yourself a Staff of Defense, then you don't have to choose!

Some of the apple mages down in silicon valley told me that Steve Jobs never died, he ascended, some say as the con man, others as the innovator, some real die hards even say he tore the true king down from the statosphere and took his place since corporations have supplanted nations.
they all agree on one thing though, Mark Zukerburg is the Godwalker and hes planning something Huge, something so huge that the godwalker of the executioner is after him.

Anon pls, we all know he created a Tulpa in Nepal to cure his cancer, succeeded but now is hiding out to keep the now murderous thoughtform from killing him

Silly Steve. Even /x/ can tell you not to make a Tulpa.
Heard a guy got eaten by his once. Made a giantess cause he liked the vore, right? Then one day, GULP. Gone. Eaten by his own brain. That's why you're not supposed to visit the astral plane around Spokane, Washington. Giantess'll getcha.

posted this in the old one. I redid the scrolls and banner.
does it look better now?
Also: the red paint spill on the right was cleaned up after taking the photo.
Ok, a really rough mashup of what I'm trying to do for a Decimator. I can see already that I'll need to either somehow bulk up the legs or find more suitable ones, and I'm not sure on the head yet. Thoughts?

Found these old charts and had some weird ideas.
>temperate forests like those of Asia harbor strange gibbon-like men, rather simple, yet social
>northern islands, covered in large fields and plains, but dotted by small forests, are inhabited by large chimp-like animals, with brains like those of man, yet behavior more akin to chimps
>northern continent is similar to the isles, but is dominated by brutish beings, like man, but stooped in posture, and simple in the mind
>but a new race has arisen in the central continent, with a sleeker build, larger frontal lobe, and weapons of all sorts: true man
>this group has spread across every continent, devastating the local populations, save for the isles, whose inhabitants will fight tooth and claw to defend then
>this group has spread across every continent, fucking the local populations, save for the isles, whose inhabitants will get truly nailed by them.

What's supposed to be so terrible about D&D 3.5 anyway? It seems like a perfectly functional system to me, and the fanbase is large and productive and a lot of fun.
Hello /tg/, I need help fleshing out a setting I'm working on: Inspired by Stargate, but with a universe inspired by Lovecraft. The US government has recovered a gateway in time and space from a doomsday cult, nobody knows how to close it and none of the places it leads are good. Aggressive, amoral Darwinist invertebrate parasites are the dominant form of intelligent life in the universe and Earth is a world of bizarre aberration, albeit aberration that produces excellent host organisms as evidenced by the colonies of abducted humans sent as tribute by various cults that have sprung up across the inhabited cosmos.
I've been studying up on parasitic crustaceans and the like, but I'd like your thoughts on what the poor JSOC bastards sent to the variety of horrible destinations Farside to scope out potential threats and bring back useful artifacts will face.
As far as "why don't they just close it?", at first they can't, or even control where it connects to, and later they learn that it wouldn't be a good idea:The gate creates an effective choke-point for all portal traffic coming to earth (inspiring over a hundred esoteric cults to either seek its destruction or capture) and that it can connect instantly and safely to any other gateway in existence without time-dilation or limited time open. This is why the gods of the powerful, predatory empire that lost it in a seemingly safe gamble for a new capitol world and machine-clever servitor race badly wants it back, as do their ambitious would-be rivals. and they're coming here through the much less efficient network of one-way portals and dangerous border-worlds that connects everyone else to claim it, even if they have to just hop to somewhere relatively close and just eat the cost of building starships for the last leg of the journey.
Will you flesh out the reetou?
>>54080521
Inspired, not a continuation of, altough I never did watch SG-1 in order and hadn't heard of these guys, thanks. I may use them as inspiration.
>>54080432
Stargate should have been darker, more like Aliens than the comedy tv show.
So what are the actual odds of the average guardsmen seeing combat and how long between recruitment until that time?
>>54081744
The Guard? 100% chance of seeing combat. They get shipped to the battlefield immediately after recruitment; that's the point of putting together a regiment - the Munitorium already has a place in mind for them to go. So, how long between recruitment and fighting just depends on how long they'll be traveling through the warp.
Now, a local PDF? It's going to vary wildly. I mean, supposedly, the era of the Dark Imperium is one in which every planet saw some sort of conflict, but there've been plenty of eras of the Imperium when that wasn't necessarily the case.
>>54081744
>>54081744
Guardsman? Damn near 100%. Possible exceptions such as perhaps a force being used to garrison a planet on the edge of some sort of potential hotspot, such as the cadians guarded the gate from the eye of terror or one of the myriad of fortresses along the outer expanse such as the ghoul stars.
PDF, who are essentially guardsmen? Varies wildly. Many go their whole lives without ever experiencing any combat whatsoever, while some PDF forces are almost permanently mobilized, such as Armageddon. In the latter situation, the only difference between them and a guard regiment is that they were drawn up locally and are only really expected to fight on their home planet.
>>54081744
Guardsmen see combat unless they get lost on the way to the battlefield, or desert after recruitment.
Post your choicest rings, and a brief description of what they do.
NO pendants
NO boots
NO brooches
Only 100% genuine finger-bling allowed!
To start:
>Witchhunter's Ring
Bestowed upon the inquisitor knights of the Old King. The gaze of the raven can be directed at a spellcaster, allowing the user to Counterspell (or cast Silence/Dispell magic if counterspelling isn't an option in your game) as a free action. Once used, the luminescent eyes of the raven go dark, and will not function for 1d4 days. Usable even by non-caster classes.
I'm noticing an APPALLING lack of rings here
>Ring of Refinement
This ring makes all of the wearer's actions more refined and seemingly more graceful. Swords fall no longer according to brute strength, but appear to flow according to noble fighting style and fencing tradition. Loosened arrows fly in delicate arcs in the distinctly elvish style. Spells cast seem orderly, calm, and colorful as though cast by a Archmage, even if cast by a Hedge mage.
This ring grants its wearer +2 to reaction rolls by those who consider themselves nobility or at least value grace and finery. If you wear this ring for 2d6 weeks at a time, you will be approached by a mischievous fey who wishes to take you as a spouse.

So, we have Fishmen on Ixalan, what are the odds we get
a) a reprint
b) a playable addition to Merfolks.
I would say very unlikely for A and downright impossible for B given the state of Standard
>>54077458
Maybe a cursecatcher reprint? But for some reason they avoided that like the plague.
>>54077458
Well, Ixalan was designed under different conditions than say, BFZ. I do have some hope for the new sets. While it's doubtful we'll get any meaningful reprints, some new tech for various decks can be hopes for, if not also expected. A lot of the rare leaks were absolutely unreadable, so there might be something there.
>>54075540
I need some art of spider humanoids, for a campaign i'm running. Any help would be appreciated. Huge spiders with signs of sentience would also be nice.
Using art from other games to illustrate your adventure. It was created from a different purpose in mind, so in the end you'll end up with a bunch of extremely incohesive pictures that will kill the immersion. Worst case scenario: a player actually knows where your picture comes from. Just develop your description skills instead. Not only will it improve the immersion and atmosphere, it will also engage the imagination of the players.
>>54070535
>Worst case scenario: a player actually knows where your picture comes from.
>not doing that on purpose
>not taking advantage of their opinions and attitudes towards various characters and works in order to subtly trick them into making unconscious assumptions that are incorrect, but reasonable for their characters to have
>>54070670
Sure, but the odds of someone being good enough at DMing to take advantage of that? Close to zero.
Probably better if you just don't use art, or only use art from one specific work that matches what you're trying to do.
>>54070535
I think you might be autistic, anon. Not in the meme way, but you might actually have a condition.
