Stat me /tg/

Seriously though, how would you stat a gargant in 8th Edition 40k? I've got a serious itch to try building one this summer, but the largest the forgeworld books go is the Stompa.

Hey /tg/ I want to create a Sunken Temple populated by Sea Monsters.

I'm thinking of using the Temple of the Crushing Wave from Princes of the Apocalypse.

Has anyone run it and or enjoyed it?

If not does anyone have any suggestions or ideas for a Kraken themed drowned temple?

One good thing is to make some places partially flooded and some which just have very damp flooring.
if everything is either fully flooded or not flooded at all it can get a bit boring. You will still want some dry areas though.

>If not does anyone have any suggestions or ideas for a Kraken themed drowned temple?
Steal ideas from an IRL pagan/animist faith like Shintoism, maybe? The local cult has started worshipping something a little bit more responsive than that particularly impressive rock out in the bay...

Also, Volo's Guide to Monsters has a bunch of stat blocks you could use.

The 5e module, Princes of the Apocalypse, has a decent water temple that has good encounters and enemies that would work well for a sunken temple

I'm looking to start making CYOA's for the general thread, and was wondering if anyone could give me some pointers. I have a copy of photoshop but do not have much experience with it. Most of my questions are focused around how layouts, typically the portrait length ones are achieved. Any help is appreciated.

You'd have better luck just asking in the general. Also there are CYOA templates so you could start with those. Also write your text first, and in something with spellcheck.

What do you think of settings inspired by Arthurian legend? Have you taken any subplots or stories from any of the various works associated with Arthurian legend?

Other than taking inspiration from specific stories like the quest for the holy grail, I think it's interesting that you could take a more historical approach and base it around what 400-500 ad Britain would be like, with saxons invading, dwindling population in cities, and the retreat of direct roman rule. Or you could focus on the medieval tellings of chivalry, with knights and princesses and a background of inevitable ruin. Either way magic could be of the strange druidic variety involving faeries and witches. Players might play as knights picked up by a noble king who seeks to restore the land, and sends his knights on various quests to gather artifacts, companions, or just prestige and honor. If players want to focus on the political side of things that might be an option too, considering how likely it would be for warlords to pop up in such a setting. Seems like a perfect setting for D&D.

I adore Arthruian legend, but because of that I try to hold back from using it most of the time, even if I've got a few settings and games lying around just waiting for their chance.

Of the games I'm in at the moment, the one with the most Arthurian elements is strangely a Magical Girl game in the Nanoha setting. Old Belka, a fallen magical superpower, was a land of knights and nobility, so the GM has been using Arthurian myth to flesh out the culture and backstory. None of it has been directly relevant yet, but one of the PC's was discovered to be a distant descendant of Morgana le Fay, we've found a few hints of the actions of an ancient, legendary mage called Merlin who is said to predate Belka itself, and we recently discovered a lost enclave founded by the followers of Mordred, reduced to primitivism in the remains of a once huge and advanced magical city.

Stories of joining groups half-way through?

>Join a group half way through
>Don't know any of their archetypes
>Make a degenerate drug addict who's kind of an asshole
>While playing find out group is playing entirely good and wholesome characters
>The GM takes me aside
>"Do you want to be the traitor"?
>MFW
>Lose a constitution check after huffing too many drugs
>End up dying to a drug overdose right before I was about to spoil their shit to the big bad
>MFW
>Make sure the next character I play matches the group better

I really hope I didn't piss them off and they enjoyed my company in the end.

I joined a group to replace another player who bailed. I've been told I'm an improvement over the previous player so I think it's gone well.
>>
>>54043742
>old player that starts a dnd group
>invited me over for a couple games since I got him into it
>bring a buddy with me
>group of weebs who just want to roll to bang and randumb shit
>roll up dwarf druid, had a vague backstory thought up
>DM tells me my backstory that I was raised by bears and buddy's character's dad murdered my bear parents and adopted me
>character resents his adoptive dad because murdered his real parents
>buddy's character is blissfully ignorant to my character's dilemma
>my character simply helps the party along and tries to provide decent insight when he can
>buddy's character rips and tears shit usually provides a solid plan
>only plot I can remember is that we went to an island, got transported into the past where the people only speak Druidic, and we eventually go back to the present and they apparently revered me as a god though they changed my name in their texts but it seems like it was my character
>the few sessions we went to, the party and DM compliment us on how we actually try to get shit done
>eventually stop going because it conflicts with my main group's schedule
>apparently DM killed off our characters and now the cleric has the spirit of the nine tailed fox and he needs to get the other tailed beast spirits

So, could have been better but it's whatever

What do you do when the fire's gone out, /tg/? You've got the motivation, the synopsis, hell you've even got the plot structure, but when you open that word document to begin writing out the character you just... Can't?

If you're burned out, you might need a break. Take some time out, do something else for a while. Catch up on some movies you missed, read a book or watch a TV show. Give yourself time rather than forcing yourself onwards. Games are meant to be fun, after all, and if you're not having fun then you're not doing anyone any good, especially yourself, by forcing yourself to keep doing it.

I say stick your nose to the grindstone - resolve to write an hour each day, no more, no less. If the juices start flowing, then just write to your heart's content, but some people write in big bursts like that while other folks are better with structure - keeps you focused on progress while not overdoing it. Maybe worth a shot

Hey /tg/, /mu/tant here. Longtime D&D/Pathfinder player, but I've never DM'd before. For the past few sessions, our GM has been telling us how much he would like one of us to run a short, 2-3 session campaign, with one-off characters, so he could get a chance to be a player. I think I have a pretty good idea for the story, but I'm kinda short on details and specifics. I was thinking, it would kind of be like the Wicker Man: the players are sent to an island where a girl has been taken by a cult, and follow a trail of clues, leading to finding that she is to be the annual sacrifice. However, there would be a twist: if they choose to stop the ritual, it would turn out that they were actually using the sacrifices to power a portal to stop eldritch horrors from spilling in from the void and causing the end of the world. And then, for reasons I haven't figured out yet, the PC's would have to choose which among their ranks would be the sacrifice; or, alternatively, they could not sacrifice anyone, and let the world end, like Cabin in the Woods. What do you think? Too derivative and cliche? Any story ideas?

You'd probably have a better chance at asking a general like /pfg/ (or /pgg/, whatever they're calling it now). And lurk more.

Favorite horror-themed game? Whether it's an RPG, board game, or card game.
I'm gonna have to go with AFMBE for RPG and pic related for board (although it's wearing a bit thin due to lack of expansions)

Don't Rest Your Head.

It's a unique style of horror. Most horror is based on the idea of powerlessness, that when it comes down to it you're almost helpless, just struggling to survive and maybe eke out a victory.

In DRYH? The players are the most powerful things in the setting. They can roll more dice than the GM can, by RAW. The catch? Every dice beyond your base amount makes the chances of an unpleasant side effect of the roll more likely.

It's never quite as bad as failing, of course, but it's still bad, and dealing with the consequence of one roll can lead to another, and another consequence, and another and another...

It's a wonderful system to run as a GM, because all you really need to do there is sit there and smile and watch the players inevitably destroy themselves, because all that power will go to their heads and make them self destruct in ways more horrifying than anything you could assert on them.

It's not entirely without hope though. They might find an exit point before the end of the spiral, they can have chances to catch their breath... But there's always that chance. To push on a little closer, to get just a little closer to their goals... And a little closer to oblivion.

It's a rules light game, but a clever one, actually making use of the nature of the system and doing a lot with a very basic set of mechanics.

The supplement, Don't Lost Your Mind, is also one of the best supplements for a game ever made.

Black Crusade Renegade in a mixed Astartes-Mortal party. Somehow he's managed to survive an jaunt onto a reawakening tomb world, and is now maybe the leader/messiah of a cult aboard the parties ship. So maybe the last section isnt too accurate anymore.

>A skyscraper-esque tower
