So how are you people feeling about this game?

I might pick up some of the figures and convert them into guardsmen or omething.

I'll fait for the release and take a look at the miniatures quality. So far, every fucking CMoN kickstarter had great renders and absolute garbage at release, so I'm not holding my breath.
>>
>>55306607
It won't release until after the show ends right?
That means it's fucked
>>
The minis are nice, but the game looks eh. If I've the money in the future to just blow on nice looking models I'll never use, I'd buy it.

I'm going to hot glue that Cersei mini tho

My friend just picked up a copy of this. We currently have 3 players that can commit to playing minimum once a week. Is three players too few? Is five players too many? What are we getting ourselves into as far as commitment? Any advice to make this the best experience possible would be appreciated. General Risk legacy thread I suppose.

I played the first round with five people and we haven't played since because we can't get everyone together.

It was fine, just make sure everybody understands that their starting position is where they place the small cities if they choose that option and where to put stickers on the board (on the black marks).

I like the game a lot. Played it weekly with a group of buddies. My advice would just be aware that it isn't very well balanced and some races are just way better than others (bear people suck ass).

I also spent some extra time to put each sticker on some thick paper with some tac clay so I can take things off when done with that group to be played again fresh.

Funny I thought /tg/ hated "legacy" games.

Anyway any risk game lets you wipe Australia permanently off the map is worth a play.

Here are the basic rules in a beginner friendly format. Also, be sure to check out the /5eg/, or 5th Edition general, for the full PDFs.

Beyond that, all you need is some dice (or a dice rolling app) and some friends.

Find friends to play with.
If those friends happen to already be playing D&D, you're set.
If not, avoid D&D. Have a look at Ryuutama and Apocalypse World 2e instead. Both books tell you everything you need to know about running a game.

What is adequate armour for a woman setting out on your standard fantasy adventure?

Leather? Brigandine? Mail? Cleaving showing cloth to distract foes?

And what is some *ESSENTIAL* starting equipment /tg/ would recommend for any fantasy adventure?

So, I'm the guy who's GM's tinder date got doxxed and whose other party member killed himself by accidentally teleporting to the elemental plane of water, back with another story.

Today our 11th level Eldritch Knight used his Find Familiar spell to summon a weasel for no other reason than to dick around with it, agitating the sorcerer to no end. Later while exploring an abandoned palace the Sorcerer read his Randomnomicon (to cast any spell in 5e at random). He gets Wish. Casting Wish for free as an 11th level Sorcerer sounds incredible. Other people start asking what he should do with it, what's the best thing to get out of Wish, but before they decide he says "I cast Find Familiar."

GM asks "Really?"
Sorcerer: Yes.

And that's how our Eldritch Knight managed to get our Sorcerer to waste a wish spell so that they could use their fucking familiars as phones to talk to each other.

I had a campaign where the entire epic tier was crafted by the true wish that each party member individually got.

One member wished for "all the money" which created a universe in which anything of value could only be used by him, which included food, meaning that literally everyone HAD to be a slave to him if they wanted to eat, because then it would be a transfer of resources between one form and another, and the food wouldn't turn to ash in their mouth.

One wished for enough power that her village would never need to bargain with any other entity than her. This wish actually worked out pretty well for her.

One wished for the power to protect humanity from the predatory influence of the fey, which created an entire police force of clones of him that diligently, and rather coldly, protected the universe from the fey, and he continued to play the youngest shard of this entity. Unbeknownst to the party, this was actually a backup shard intentionally left by the now eldritch entity that retroactively experienced millennia worth of lifetimes as defender of humanity in an active attempt to maintain its own waning humanity.

..... more wishes to come....

Have you ever began a session "In Media Res"? How was it? What are some good hooks?

Not without a fiasco-like session 0 to set up random relationships and plot hooks.

I am thinking about a true cop start next time, but I would be required to tell a player an aspect of their background they should know themselves already.

Hard to do, just by the very nature of RP.

Starting in the middle usually involves either cutting to the beginning or making assumptions on what a character would do in a situation that by and large should be played out by the player.

Cutting to the beginning after presenting them with a scenario does encourage a certain amount of meta gaming, as they will often actively attempt to avoid that fate or prepare for it. Unless you have a player who enjoys helping the group stay on path it is an effort in futility.

Making assumptions is a more vile offense in the players' eyes as you are literally taking control away from their character, and unless you know your players really well

That being said. I have started a campaign like this as a way to group up the party. Run a solo session with each player and then at the beginning of the first real session they find themselves in the same predicament and break the ice by telling each other their side of the story Reservoir Dogs style. Let them lie, let them be boisterous, and let them really personify their characters. It's an interesting spin on the whole you all meet in a tavern/prison/crypt/police precinct/customs office

tl;dr it's hard to do and really depends on your players and how well you execute it. I feel it's better done at the beginning of the campaign

> You wake up in an inn
> You were awoken by a crashing sound
> The building next door is demolished by an anchor dropped through it
> You look up, and a fleet of airships fills the sky, dropping anchors and dispensing troops into the city from hang gliders and down the anchor chains
> What do you do?

Worked well, but the campaign didn't last long.

What is a wild campaign idea you've had?

>Three session game with the players as humans leading up to a war with orcs, learn that the orcs have been attacking for generations, evil, etc.
>Just before the war, blindside the players with a three session orc game leading up to the same war, learning that the orcs just want some more farm land to eat but the humans always see them as a threat.
>Final session the players can choose which side to play on.
6 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>55297768

That's not wild. The Orcs are still evil from the human's perspective because they've been attacking for generations. Motivation doesn't matter.
>>
Now that you made the orcs a thinly disguised reference for Real World Oppression™ I want to kill them even more.
>>
>>55297768
>>Just before the war, blindside the players with a three session orc game leading up to the same war, learning that the orcs just want some more farm land to eat but the humans always see them as a threat.
Perfect. Now you have a way of genociding them by focusing on their food production.

I had an idea for a setting but had concerns. The base idea is that it is meant to be, at least on the surface, appear to be a contemporary setting. But then scratch the surface and you find this bizarre world full of schizophrenic technology emerging;

Some examples include:
>Project "Alarm Clock"
"Using a mummified corpse, a combination of either hydraulic or electric motors are connected to the joints and the subject's mummified brain-matter is scanned and it's neural connections 'mapped' and replicated in silicon crystals and circuitry and placed inside the cranium, additional sensors are added to the head to replace lost sensory organs. Once activated the remains will animate and the subject will retain the memories and personality of the deceased individual up to the time of their demise."

>S.P.S
"This chemical is a botanical growth hormone that when applied in concentrated doses will result in the affected plants to grow at an accelerated rate, typically will completely consume structures in a matter of hours and in several cases some affected plants will develop ambulatory abilities and even predatory traits."

>Psychokenesis
Some individuals between the ages of 6-12 have been known to develop a rare brain tumor that, instead of choking off the brain, will function as additional grey matter giving the individual pronounced psychokinetic abilities.

>Cancerbeast
at some point some scientist removed a cancerous tumor from a patient but instead of disposing of it, suspended the thing in a nutrient tank and further encouraged growth. the thing grew into a semi-sapient pack hunter, thing, that appears to be trainable. attempts to recreate this phenomenon with virus samples ended far more disastrously.

in addition to those few examples of insane "science" the world also has ancient artifacts with unexplainable powers;

Such as:

>Poseidon's Blood
a tear-shaped ruby set into a gold amulet approximately 2"x 4" in size, discovered on Catalina Island, the object attracts storms and sea Serpents to it, and attack whatever possesses the amulet.

> the Cube
an ancient cube of black stone 4" x 4" x 4" in dimension, when "activated" it will emit a radiation pulse that will transform any people or animals in range into hyper-aggressive lovecraftian horrors. effective range of the pulse has ranged from 100' to 20 miles.

>the stone of life
a small polished stone that will transform any complex tool it interacts with into a beast possessing some abilities similar in nature to the original tool.

>Slave Nails
a set of 3" long silver nails capped by a white pearl, if one is pierced by one of these nails such that the tip penetrates the brain, the victim will enter a state of bliss and mindlessly obey the commands of whoever inserted the nail. there is no known way to remove a nail without killing the victim.

I realize that any setting with all this insanity all at once is going to be fucking stupid. But what I'm curious of is this; is it interesting? Is a setting where this kind of stuff happens one that would make someone want to have adventures in and explore this world?

2/2
>>
Sure, make it.
>>
>>55297610
>>55297622
So it's the real world except with some mad science and magic added in? Doesn't seem all that unusual. So yes, a setting that is basically the real world, but more interesting would make someone want to explore and have adventures in it.
