What do you kids listen to when you write?
Say it's a setting, a character, some plot, anything. What do you fuckers use to inspire you? Broad playlists of your own shit? ambience stuff? audiobooks?
Share, i dares ya.

Alright. I've spent the last week trying to really understand these things, but I've had an easier time learning Chinese GURPS because I like stupid challenges.
I think the main issue is that they've been such a close knit group of regulars for so long, that there's now enormous walls that make it next to impossible to just "jump into" those threads, which is funny because one of them has jump in its title and I like irony.
They're almost like private little forums on this board, and the more I tried to get involved and to learn about the subculture and get a knack for the customs and practices of these tribes, the more it became evident that these people require indoctrination into their collection of unwritten laws before you can break into their "inner circle."
It tends to get that way with many generals dedicated to very niche subjects, but nowhere else on this board have I seen it so strongly, to a point where I'm starting to wonder whether or not it makes more sense to "retire" these threads to some offsite forum. They have aged rather poorly in the years of their existence to reject notions of inclusivity and have grown to be private chatrooms that border on echo chambers, with circular development that seems to be largely organized just for the sake of maintaining a perpetual status quo. I don't foresee anything changing in them for several years, because the people involved in them reject change as foreign and will keep following ruts in the road since that is the basis of their doctrine and the main reason for their longevity.
These are just my observations.

>Alright. I've spent the last week trying to really understand these things, but I've had an easier time learning Chinese GURPS
I'm not sure how, unless you're both retarded and fluent in chinese. Most cyoas have instructions in the images themselves, and if you don't know how to make a character build, you probably shouldn't be on this board at all.
Granted, Jumpchain and Towergirls seem to be slowly morphing into /ksg/ with every thread, but general cyoa threads are basically just build creation with large sides of shitposting.
>>54134477
Do you participate heavily in those threads? It may very likely be that you don't even realize just how many unwritten rules are in play, and how the discussions contained within those threads are borderline tribal jungle talk to anyone who simply knew of these threads over the years but had never bothered to take a look inside any of them.

Are you retarded? Here's how cyoa threads work

All sorts of storm. I've been more or less exclusive to the storm archetype for about 4 years now. Started it in EDH, realized that the duals were most of the deck and that I had them in my possession I built it in legacy. The archetype is always enjoyable to pilot, sometimes a game of chance and sometimes just crushing (either my opponent or my psyche).
I'm currently working on germanizing my duals, foiling out my german cards and getting my foils signed. Going quite well so far ^^

I like reanimator the most because I think it has a lot of appealing aspects that can appeal to many different kinds of players. The deck lets you use big creatures with powerful effects that you normally wouldn't get to play. It's fun slotting them into your deck and trying out new things. Reanimator decks can also have various win conditions such as Tendrils of Agony, or Worldgorger Dragon.

Just about to start a new campaign with 3 friends.
>General premise is that they're pirates, going on a nautical adventure to different islands following a treasure map toward the biggest pirate treasure in the world
>Gave them 2 NPCs each that can specialize in any art or act as a level 1 character to act as the crew/support.
>They ended up picking 2 fishermen, 1 cook, 1 cleric, 1 rogue
What are some ideas I can add in? Stops along the way? Conflicts at or between each major point? Supplies and additions to the ship?
>pic unrelated
>>54133742
You can use 1 page towns or 1 page dungeons for islands (maybe search one of each and make an island by fusing both together). Maybe I would start all sessions with an adventure on the open sea, with a random event (from storms and monsters to friendly merchants, getting lost or just cool weather); that can influence the condition in which they land into this session island. Then, develop as usual.
That said, I like the party you've formed. Give them competitors for the treasure or some kind of recurring enemies, just in case the overarching plot gets stale.
The ocean can be a pretty boring place that only serves to get you to the interesting islands if you're not clever about how you use it.
If your setting is high fantasy, have the boat run into sea spirits, or mermaids, or sea monsters, or enemy pirates with crazy weird ships. If you're going lower fantasy, make sure to play around with weather, the environment, ect.
Okay, /tg/, I need some advice. I wanted to run some samurai/ronin adventure sort of stuff in the vein of things like Zatoichi, the Samurai trilogy, Samurai Executioner/Lone Wolf&Cub, etc... My first thought was the just take L5R and strip away the setting specific features... and the magic... but that left me with a flimsy looking basis for character creation, so I tried to fill out some of the gap with a kind of combo system, and now I'm knee deep in "so what I thought I'd do for my game was tweak Pathfinder, and..." And I'm convinced I've fucked this up and need to try again from scratch.
BUT before I do, surely someone else must have some experience with trying to do something like this. Or in the very least with running a samurai themed/Japanese historical fiction game before; If you have, what systems or fixes were your solution to this problem?
Check out the game Sengoku. The rpg itself uses Fuzion which is pretty hit or miss, but it's a solid source book for the setting and a generally well regarded game. It might be the kind of thing you want.

10/10 came to post this myself.
>>54133369
found a copy of the pdf and flipping thru it now. i love that they went so far as to stat out the process of seppuku.
Is this guy worth the points cost? 400 points is a lot for one character, but, I mean... He can really, . Currently, I run DA successor, but I really want to give this guy a try. really kick ass. Posting stats in the next post
Stats.
>>54132882
Damn, i'm gonna use him for sure, always had the model and he sucked in 7th getting immobilized and blown up
400pts is a lot, probably not quite worth it but i notice he doesn't get weaker. That movement seems a bit low for a melee dread
>>54132909
You could put him in a Lucius Drop Pod, I think, but that is another 120pts on an already expensive model.
Hey /tg/
I made this character questionnaire to help your GM/PC's make rounded characters.
Not just murder hobos.
Opinions and suggestions are welcome. I hope I set it right, so you can take the file. Just go on the three dots in the upper right corner and 'Make a Copy'
You're welcome.

My biggest fantasy as a GM is to run a campaign that would be a self-aware parody of those kids toys animes (Yu-Gi-Oh,Bakugan,Beyblade, Duel Masters) where everyone reacts overdramaticaly every time something happens.
How would you do that /tg/ ?
>>54131528
I remember a thread where the premise of the world was yugioh where your deck was part of your soul, with new cards added to your deck shaped by your experiences, but all your experiences were invariably card games
wanna climb a mountain? You have to beat it in a children's card game. Wanna eat a big burger? Card game. Ask a girl out? Card game. Play a card game? Card game.
A ran a short campaign that was heavily inspired by the tournament island chapters of Yugioh and elements of Kaiji as well. I made up a really simple CCG that was like a combination of Restricted Rock Paper Scissors and Pokémon, I guess? Anyhow, matches were fast so 'combat' wasn't a slog and all players needed to win a few matches to progress to the next part of the tournament. I stole it from Kaiji but it worked real well, each player started with 3 stars. If they won a match they took one of their opponents stars and if they lost they were removed a star. My players fought, traded, stole and more to ensure everyone had enough to continue and there were some backstabbing moments too.I used simple d6 as my system
>>54131567
That sounds pretty fucking hilarious, but you'd probably need the right group to really tie it all together unfortunately.
Have your PCs ever gone undercover? Were they ever discovered by the enemy while doing so?
I played in a Dark Heresy game where we were infiltrating some factory on a hive world that was either a chaos cult or planning a revolution on the hive worlds government or something similar that I don't really remember. The below average intelligence guardsman I was playing kept Forrest Gumping his way up the middle management ladder
Will we ever see them again?
No.
Were they only used in Rogue Trader? If so probably not
I JUST WANT TRAITOR GUARDSMEN AND AUXILLARY ALIEN MERCS ALA LOXATL, REEEEEEEEEE
if anyone wants to use this risk-type map i made, steal away

Help me make up my mind on an 8th ed army /tg/. I want something that is going to keep me occupied painting, is a decent army that I can have fun playing, and has alright lore or at least characters and specific stuff I can put into my army. Here's a few ideas I have, I can either A. wait and slowly build up a reneguard blood pact artillery army before armies on parade, B. hop on the primaris train and pick up primaris Lamenters cause I like their lore, or C. start up a tau tank army for fun and learn how to freehand or make cool transfers. Any suggestions? I want an affordable and fun army that isnt waac, but decent. Wat do.
Also if I did blood pact I'd convert my basilisks and other tanks to be more historical and less silly like pic related
