I like the World of Warcraft soundtrack. They did a decent job of matching zone music to zone atmosphere. If you spend enough time you can even pick music for different times of day, which personally i really enjoy.

For a classic example, the party tracks down a Succubus only for it to claim it has fallen in love and will do no more harm. Naturally suspicious, the party confirms using magic that the Succubus isn't lying.

Sparing the Succubus seems like a well-intended, merciful act.

But in reality, it has a wide variety of consequences that you would be perfectly justified to visit upon them, including but not limited to:
>Someone finding out the party spared a demon and assuming they were tainted or heretical.
>The demon changing its mind or succumbing to its baser instincts and harming others, which would have been prevented if the party had killed her.
>Someone harming the demon's lover, sending the demon straight back on the warpath.
>The party just being outright wrong, the demon having straight up fucking tricked the party's truth detection using magic of its own, and continuing to commit horrible acts of evil.

But honestly, anything can have consequences that no one intends at the time and there's nothing wrong with playing that out from time to time. But don't overdo it, don't poison every, or even most, acts of mercy or you'll warp the players mindset.

Lots of players say they want epic shit, grand, world shaking stuff. Lots of GMs think that is how games are supposed to go. Going from battling a few orcs near rivendel to Helm's Deep, then to destroying the dark lord himself

Fun fact: That's hard as fuck to run and turns things into endless escalation.

People are happier with a game that has a consistent scale and themes.

I am currently trying to sort out all the rules for this "glyph" based card game I am creating. I've made some good progress in the last few days. I've ironed out a lot of kinks.

I will do my best to explain the game. It is very simple.

Each player has:
-A deck
-A hand
-An array of X columns which can each have Y stacks.

Stacks are decks of cards on the field & break down in two 2 ways. Face card(Top card), held cards, and buried cards. Held cards are the cards face up. Buried, face down. A stack can be vertical or horizontal.
Each card has header glyphs (glyphs at the top of the card) and glyphs and language to represent techniques; i.g. "Discard 1 <lightning-glyph> Card"

I am still sorting out initializing the game state and some other turn to turn rules.

I'm thinking 0 to start off with, and draw 1 every turn. A deck should be fully capable of getting more cards drawn. Perhaps cards can be sent to the bottom of your deck in exchange for an equal amount of draws.

There is no "official" way to win the game. I've been having too much fun with the simple and elegant mechanics to really stress about that. I will need to do a few test runs before I can figure out what a default match's win conditions will be.
I'm going to guess that the most common rule is to deplete your opponents deck. You draw cards hoping you can sustain your own deck longer and deplete your opponents faster.
Stalemates are possible. Avoiding them tends to water down game potential in my opinion. With the mechanics available in the game, a player should be able to build up enough for themselves in order to defeat an opponent though. I think it's more likely that exponential growth of power will help bring a conclusion to the game.

With that being said, about no "official rules", the cards simply have effects on each other. There's no standard framework for "attack and defense". Or for classifying summons. The scalability of this game comes with glyphs & player content on the blockchain. Glyphs & cards will be added to the game by players.
One thing I worry about is complexity and accomplishing a slick design.

Other than trying to generate interests and answer questions, I'm looking for some cool & edgy ideas to add into the "just for fun" release.

I am meeting with an old friend to iron out the rest of the rules to this game this weekend.

One thing I am trying to sort out is something called "Hidden Glyphs".
Here's the challenge: I want a "Key" card to interface with a "Door" card, but I can't make a general "Door" glyph, because all special "doors" are portals.
So in order to select a door, I need to come up with a slick way to mark all doors in the same way.

The only way I can think of is the order of the glyphs & their containers.
Glyphs will often be inside a container. Some basic geometrical outline. This container represents different things:
Circle - (Life)
Square - [Material]
Diamond - <~Passive>
Triangle Up - <+Buff>
Triangle Down - <-DeBuff>
Wide Hexagon - {(Area of Effect)}
House-like Pentagon - [<Building>]
Square Top Round Bottom - <[Vehicle]>
Rounded Top Square Bottom - {Meta}
Rounded Top Square Bottom - [{Device}]
No Container - |Basic|

Stone golems would be made of [{device}] & [materials] while Living creatures would be made of organic (Life).

So if I want to have "hidden glyph" meanings then I'd have to find a solid way to make sure I can make an order pattern appear however I wanted it. Containers are an evident way to do that because I can use position offsetting too. Problem is, a tiny-gnome elephant isn't going to use up the same amount of containers as a regular elephant is. (Life) & [Material] are generally used to represent how much life something has. So I can't say all circle-square-square-circle are elephants, so in order to boost all elephants with some effect just target circle-square-square-circle.
Using arbitrary basic glyphs is a little scary. How do you really use the right arbitrary glyph? That glyph can now be interacted with, does it introduce glitchy "side effects"?
I am going to try to figure this out without having an "elephant" glyph for every "elephant' that anyone ever comes up with.
What if it's more than just an elephant?

I am interested in playing D&D or some such game, but I don't really have a community for it where I live.
How do I get into /tg/ stuff over the internet? I've lurked long enough to know people do it over Discord and such, but I don't really know any more than that. I'm not very experienced with playing ttrpg's but I wanna RP and chill. Halp?

There are many amazing programs out there for playing Table Top RPGs, like Roll20 and Fantasy Grounds (the latter being my personal choice as it gives so much fine control over whats going on).

As for meeting people online, you could find some forums or connect with Friends you already have online and getting something started. I would recommend any forums where you could find people, but I have a really strong local group and don't have any need to seek those kinds of things out, and wouldn't know. I do know they exist, as I have talked with people who use them before, and they give these kinds of setups rave reviews.

Read a system. Hit up Gamefinder threads and your website of choice. If it has a general, maybe talk to people there. I know roll20 has LFG functionality. Set it to "welcomes new players" and apply for a game that looks interesting. They can be hit-or-miss, but you can eventually get a handful of solid players. Don't join living world campaigns, as they usually go up in flames.

If it were a bright light of some kind, you could do Blinded by the Light. You could always just go with a disco song of some sort. ELO's Strange Magic is disco for the disco ball and mentions magic, but I'm not necessarily sold on it as a theme song (besides, you don't want to wear ELO out when Turn to Stone would work great for Flesh to Stone, should you even do that). Shine a Little Love is another ELO that comes close. You could just go for a recognizable disco song that maybe mentions dancing: You Should Be Dancing, Dancing Queen, Shake Your Booty, Boogie Wonderland, etc.

Diamond Head's Shoot Out the Lights could work. Or the B-52's Strobe Light. Joe Walsh's Life of Illusion would probably work better for phantasmal force or some shit like that.

Where can I buy more of these mini boat things? I love building them, and I even use them in my DnD games for when my PCs set sail for somewhere. I don't want to buy an entirely new board just to get 4 of them. I'd rather just buy the models themselves.
