Feet straight and eyes front, Men!

Men, as you are all very well aware of. Yesterday, there was an incident on deck 7, which wiped out half of deck 7, a and killed nearly two-thousand crew members. Our Tech-Priests, have ever since then, been working tirelessly, to repair what damage they can. But it seems we may be stranded out here unti-...

...Hold on a moment, Lads. The bridge is calling me.

... Uh-huh... Mhm... Yes, that is quite bad, now isn't it... Very well. I'll tell them immediately!

*AHEM!* Well, good news everyone. I was about to say, that due to lack of power, we were stranded in the middle of nowhere. But it seems that's not the case, and I won't have to tell you all to begin choosing who you're going to eat first when the food eventually runs out!

Instead, it seems that an Imperial battlefleet has begun towing us, towards a planet known as "Praetoria"

So! While we await our rescuers to board and check us over. I suggest that we keep ourselves busy, with a suprise Field Kit Inspection! So present arms and equipment, for inspection!

>Welcome to '''Field Kit Inspection!', home of the 'Unknown Regiment". Feel free to join in! Remember though, we tend to use spoilers for OOC chat, while greentexts for are used for describing a character's actions. D20s are for combat checks and d100s for other things you wish to roll, with higher being better.

They've kinda rolled the concept of them into the Perpetuals (who I also think are Shaman who never took part in the ritual that created the Emperor).

How do you balance "Dude in metal who hits stuff really hard with other pieces of metal" in a setting with actual magic and divinity and shit WITHOUT giving him magical/divine/etc. pieces of metal to wear and hit with?

>>
anyone who uses magic becomes mad and forgets how
>>
I never really understood how a setting could have ubiquitous magical influence and pointlessly restrict the average guard/soldier/whatever from using it in some way.

In your particular case unless that "metal" is antimagium I wouldn't bother, but even that is just a really lazy sounding decision
>>

Magic is restricted, rare, difficult, dangerous, and shunned.

That's how.

How do you prefer you're magic /tg/
Do you prefer it to have some genetic trait to use it like harry potter?
Or do you prefer it to be more 'anyone can learn it if they have the smarts' Like say Dnd.
92 posts and 7 images submitted.
>>
>>54223100
The latter.

I like to think of magic like some really complicated science type, that takes decades to learn and a lifetime or more to master, but in theory anyone can do it.
>>
>>54223128
I prefer the latter.
I don't mind if everyone can use magic but someone with a genetic or family quirk can do something special though.
Brings interesting things for say a cyberpunk setting.

Definitely. If your mother was a demon then you've got some weird shit in you, and can do a lot of things a fully mortal wizard probably can't.

>Necromancers are always "I summon skeletons and zombies to take over the world" or "I summon skeletons and zombies to save peasants while angsting about it"

Why is there never any focus on ghosts? It's always gross/spooky dead bodies.
88 posts and 18 images submitted.
>>
>>54219159
Because ghosts are a pain in the fucking ass to keep tabs on
>>
>>54219159
Because DnD as a system breaks when ghost summons get involved, so they are not even considered, neither is the multitude of systems that could handle it easily. Closest thing you could get is a Cleric's Spirit Guardians.
>>
>>54219159
Using ghosts is certainly a lot easier of a concept for your "not evil I promise" necromancer character, because you can just say that there happened to be some dead guy hanging out wandering the earth that's gonna help you out now

So where are all the badass good wizards?

I mean, most of the fantasy books or stories I've read so far, the good wizards are old kindly dudes with gigantic beards and a sort of paternal attitude, while the evil ones are generally young guys with a thirst for power.

I'm mildly confused about why cant I find a badass, lightning throwing good guy
96 posts and 11 images submitted.
>>
>>54218336
Because they'd need an even more powerful opponent to mantain an interesting conflict. At this point its verging into DBZ territory, which not all writers want to use.
>>
>>54218336
Because there are no good guys these days - just morally ambiguous edgies.
>>
>>54218336

Because the enemy has to be more powerful than the good guy to create conflict, and the monomyth is about the protagonist growing up and rising to the challenge. That means he has to start weak, and get better. He gets better by seeking out the Mentor, who is usually described as having been more powerful than the villain is now, but is too old and weak to win the fight himself now.

You are basically asking why the mentor figure isn't more like the villain.

Is it acceptable to declare the enemy dead when you get bored of combat as a GM?
72 posts and 4 images submitted.
>>
>>54216669
Depending on when you get bored of combat, you should probably declare the game dead instead.
>>
>>54216669

As the GM, you control how much HP the enemy has. So, sure.

If combat is slogging along, and you feel like it should have been over by now, you can go ahead and describe it dying.

It's not like the party is gonna call you out on not giving the enemy the proper amount of HP.
>>
>>54216669
Yes, the point of playing is to have fun, hopefully you can rebalance future enemies so that that sort of thing happens less frequently.

Why are there almost no humans in your setting/tg/?
78 posts and 11 images submitted.
>>
There are plenty of humans in the settings I usually run. I can see the appeal of doing a no humie setting, but generally I like to have humans there just so that if someone wants to be a normie, they can play them.
>>
>>54209607
Humans are an endangered species, slowly rising from their peril under the guidance of the non-human races. They are treated not quite like equals, almost more like how we treat endangered animals in our own reality.

Long ago, humans were a numerous and powerful race, but they were very foolish and closed-minded. When they emerged from their isolated home, their first response was to attack the numerous inhuman monstrosities that plagued the world in their eyes.

They however either did not know, or did not care of the sapience of these other beings, and attacked each and every one of them indiscriminately. This would turn out to be a mistake, as these creatures formerly at war with one another, were now given a threat they could unify and retaliate against. They did so, overwhelmingly, and almost wiped the humans away entirely.

Hey I'm this guy (pic related)

I used to help recast HH/net epic /bfg stuff as well as resin terrain and sub 15mm models. I'm no longer part of that community. What you want to do is lurk and post regularly on the Tactics Command forum and get in with the guys. It's similar to finding a steroid or drug source online. Post in the community get to know who does what and go from there. Get a few dozen posts and then pm a few of the blog guys that laser print and cast their own stuff. You're talking about a community of 100 guys or less - mostly in Germany / Netherlands area. Learn to recast yourself a bit - I was paying around $24 each fellblade lol

Sons of the Pale Horseman

A ruins that has different denizens through the age of Golarion, first was the Urdefhans during the Age of Darkness. Little is known of this time. The Urdefhans dedicated a temple to the Horseman of Death, Charon.
It is rumored in the deepest parts of the Catacombs there is an entrance to the Darklands below.

In 3120 the ruins was uncovered during a failed Settlement creation of Ustalav The site was soon abandoned among rumors of the lands being cursed and settlers disappearing. A monastery built atop the ruins was the only remaining testament of the Settlement.
In 3240, the Sons of the Pale Horseman was created. The temple was rebuilt and the monastery was named Charon's Rest. The monastery became a place of resistance to combat the increasing influence of the Lich King, The Whispering Tyrant flowing eastward from Virlych. The Order was dedicated to the eridication of The Whispering Way and their undead creation. The Sons forged an alliance with the Urdefhan inhabitating the Lower parts of the catacombs beneah the Monastery.
>>
>>54231702

Records that can be found in the Archival room show a decline in members and eventually end with the fall of the Whispering Tyrant in 3828. The site remained abandoned. It's only inhabitants that remain are the undying fanatics that remained to guard the Temple. Times passed and the monastery was lost to the elements. Only the tower remains visible hidden amongst the forest that grows around it.

> Below is a cavalier order I created for the monastery.
Orders of Pale Horseman
"Surrender and serve me in life, or die and slave for me in death." - Unknown
Cavaliers of this order seek out to destroy the undead of the Whispering Tyrant and those who harbor or creat them. Dedicated to stopping the cult of The Whispering Way, these knights specialize in using the armies of Undead against their master.

Mount: Any mount called by a Black Rider gains the skeleton template. While ridden by the cavalier it gains channel resistance equal to the cavalier's class level. This ability modifies, but does not replace, the cavalier's normal mount ability.

Order: A black rider must select Order of the Black Rider as his order:

Order of the Pale Horseman

Edicts: The cavalier must devote himself to protecting River Kingdoms and its people. He must obey the edicts of Charon without question. He must strive to restore the fragmented souls of the Whispering Tyrant. Some Sons serve the Order of the Shroud.

Challenge: Whenever an order of the pale horseman cavalier issues a challenge against an undead, his allies receive a +1 circumstance bonus on damage rolls against the target of his challenge whenever he is threatening the target. This bonus increases by +1 for every four levels the cavalier possesses.

Order Abilities: A cavalier belonging to the order of the pale horseman gains the following abilities as he increases in level.

Channel Negative Energy (Su): At 2nd level the cavalier gains the ability to channel negative energy as an evil cleric of his class level, regardless of his alignment. If he possesses the ability to channel energy from another source (even indirectly, such as via a paladin's lay on hands) it changes to channel negative energy.

It's the day of the first session, you're going to meeting a whole new group of players. Today is your first chance to make an impression, their entire view of you for the campaign depends on the first 5 minutes of you meeting them.

How do you make a good impression, what do you personally do?

Give each an arrival time with a five minute separation. Gives you time to meet and greet, and see who arrives on time and who rounds numbers.

Have snacks on the table, see who beelines for each, if they beeline. Drinks too. Pitcher of water with some lemons, versus soda jugs. Dixie cups versus glasses. See what they do.

Otherwise it's just making small talk.
