>the tiny creature psychically devours sorrow and doubt
>but this also means that the target feels less sorrow and doubt, for a moderate time after the feeding
Would people carry the tiny critters around?
>>55345318
Only when the amount of sorrow or doubt being experienced is disproportionately innapropriate for my experience.
For example: whilst feeling depressed.
Is there a negative effect to them? Do the negative feelings come back after a time or are they gone for good? Do they just eat the sensation, or do they eat the memories of where the feelings originate?
For example, if I am mourning the loss of my mother, would these things just make me apathetic, or would they make me forget my mother entirely. Otherwise these sound like something nice to bring with you.
If it looks like a cute animal or something, sure. If it looks like a living nightmare and drools acid probably not

If you're not using alignment you're not playing D&D.
Eberron for best setting.
tfw terrible roleplayer
What are some interesting plot twists you've had in your games?
>>55345274
See Kotor
I really want to give my players one of these things and wait for them to realize what's happening.
>>55345399
That is some genuine dickery
So recently my GM decided that he was tired of working around all the vanilla Pathfinder Gods because they kept getting in the way of how he wanted his setting to work and threw them out.
The rest of the party and I were on board for it because his setting is interesting enough to work without them and he's barely utilized them to begin with.
So he's in the process of creating new Gods and worked with our group's Cleric to make sure his character would still follow the new version he made.
My problem comes from the fact that my character, a 10th level Sword Saint and 3rd level Chevalier, while not directing following any God in particular, has strong plot ties to Shizuru and actually uses a sword that is supposedly a holy symbol of hers.
He's basically kept her as is with just some minor tweaking, but since I'm the character most closely associated with her, he's asked for my help naming her.
So far, I've just been taking her domains into google translate and finding the best sounding combination of resulting 1-2 sylable Kanji:
>日 (Hi)=Sun, Day, Sunshine
>名誉(Meiyo)=Honor
>和(Wa)=Harmony, Peace
>力(Chikara)=Power, Strength
>戦士(Senshi)=Warrior, Soldier, Combatant
>因習(Ishū)=Tradition, Custom, Convention
>留守居(Rusui)=Caretaker, Keeper
>主領(Shuryō)=Commander, Chief, Leader, Head, Captain, Master, Lord, Supervisor
>夜明け(Yoake)=Dawn, Daybreak
>黄昏(Tasogare)=Twilight, Dusk, Dawn, Dim, Vesper,
Current favorite is Hiyorimeiyo (日和名誉)
>Sun
>Peace
>Honor
But we're not sold on it.
Any suggestions for coming up with decent weeb god names or names in general?
>>55345134
Use car names.
Takoma, Durango, Honda, Tsuru, Volvo, etc
Kinzoku Kōgyō Yūgen
any or all of these sound awesome and pretty devine
Why is Hiyorimeiyo a cute foxgirl?
what class would a Joker type character be in a fantasy ttrpg
personally i believe he would be a wild mage sorcerer
>>55345081
>a trickster
>>55345081
chaotic evil bard
>>55345081
>>55345096
I don't think Joker is really Charisma-based. Nobody likes him except Harley (sometimes, and he emotionally manipulated her, which is more Intelligence) and his gang members (who are just in it for the money and violence). I think the Joker is the definition of a dick-ass wizard, and he'd probably Lichify himself in a heartbeat.
Пpивeт fa/tg/ays,
I've been caught in a creative conundrum. My setting features a hyena/gnoll race, but for the life of me I cannot seem to pin down a name for them. Could you be of some assisstance?
>>55344832
Why can't you call them gnolls?
>>55344832
You could always name them based off of a trait they have, like, do they have a matriarchy like real hyenas do and are the only race with this trait? Name them after that.
Do they live in a specific climate or geographical area? There's a name.
>>55344890
They're a little more advanced than their ravenous fantasy counterparts, so I imagined ditching the barbaric shorter moniker for a more civilized name would be fitting.
>>55344317
I play Deathwatch so yes.
Dark heresy, on the other hand...
>>55344317
>Gremlins on a submarine
Well. The mooks are likely fucked. And the world is, if there's a breach.
>>55344317
Bard would throw him in the river to be funny.
Screw you jared!
so tips for space marines and/or talk about the space marines in this edition
>>55344057
Dont give an Emperor's Champion a custom strategem to ignore daemon invuls. He'll fuck Magnus in tne ass.
>>55344057
This is a very broad topic.
>>55344057
this thread is like saying "how are you" in any other country than US.
>"You failed your dexterity saving throw, so you fall off the side of the ship into the stormy waters."
>"Oh no, my character's dead!"
>"What?"
>"She can't swim! She's going to drown!"
>"What? Let me see your sheet. It says she has a strength score of 18 and is proficient in Athletics. She's a fantastic swimmer."
>"But, she's never learned how to swim, and her being terrible at swimming is why she got captured by slavers in her backstory."
>"I mean, I can give her a special penalty or just automatic disadvantage on swim checks if you want, but the waters are really rough. There's a fair chance she really will drown."
>"I guess that's just what she gets for sailing during a storm without being able to swim."
As her DM, what to do you do?
>>55343974
I would let Ribbon's character live.
Isn't there anybody else in the party who can help her?
>>55343974
Ask if anyone wants to roll to save her I guess?
Have it turn out that the waters are filled with human saving dolphins?
Have her drift ashore to an island and awaken, having barely survived, to reunite with her ally's later?
Whatever works. Or just let her char be killed off. She seems fine with it.

first for don't buy mana drain because sheldor will ban it because it's became more avalible
what does the two letters on the right side mean? NM, EX, etc?

What the fuck is it with grognards and screeching? Every ttrpg table I've ever played at there is always one idiot that correlates good voice acting with screeching at the top of his lungs. Theres not a word of narrative description on the goblin king screaming and writhing under pain of the players blows, he will just sit and scream at the table, and of course louder = better acting. God help me if someone rolls a fucking 20.
I'm going to start playing online text only. Where did this start?
Not using coasters? You's a pleb.

>Every ttrpg table I've ever played at there is always one idiot that correlates good voice acting with screeching at the top of his lungs
uh huh
>>55343446
It changes how your vocal chords sound by damaging them slightly - it's just how they limber up their throat.
Why did 3rd edition need to be replaced by 3.5 and why does everybody play 3.5 nowadays?
Trolling aside, I'm actually curious about the answer to this too. I grew up with 3.0, but I rarely got to play it, and I wound up skipping over 3.5 entirely and played pathfinder rarely as well. This question kinda fascinated me all these years.
>>55343356
3e had some probelms that 3.5 fixed, but this was in no way a sufficient overhaul to fix the whole of the broken system.
a few notable changes:
>Bards got more skill points, and their spell list was changed, to enhance their "jack of all trades" role.
>Clerics could now spontaneously cast Cure and Cause wounds of the "mass" varieties.
>Druid's animal companions now scale and advance as the Druid levels up, which means fewer dead animal companions.
>Fighter Bonus Feat list got an overhaul, many feat descriptions and functions changed.
>Monk's flurry changed to get a different advancement rate, and they got some new options for bonus feats (Still crippled by Multiple-attribute dependency)
>Paladins can summon their mounts, instead of the mount just always being there.
>Rangers got a bigger hit die, more skill points, revisions to favored enemy, and animal companion.
>Sorcerers can now change small things about their spell list when leveling up.
>Wizards had their spell specialization change, and familiar stat bonuses.
there's also a shit ton of changes to skills, feats, spells (in both name and function), the way damage reduction works, and some pieces of equipment.
>>55343356
Even disregarding all of the strange corner cases, Haste annihilated any semblance of game balance because of the extra action.

Would you call 40k a deconstruction of space opera?
>>55342641
Not a purposeful one. It's sort of like when a bunch of NASA scientists can't figure out the solution for an impending crisis and then some retard looks up from making jet noises with his Legos and goes "why don't you just blow it up?" and it actually worked.
I'd call it a space opera setting with plenty of grim dark stories set in it.
No, just making something grimderp does not a deconstruction make.
What do you guys think of Symbaroum?
I personally really like the mechanics, and the setting seems to be much less messy than dnd.
I wish there were more resources (like custom roll tables and cheat sheets) like dnd.
I never see it discussed here...
>>55342633
What is it? Never heard of it.
>>55342690
The setting is based around newly colonised land surrounding a collosal country-western forest called Dakovar.
The tone is a bit darker than dnd with great fear surrounding the forest, yet people recognise the dangerous opportunities it holds.
Civilised society is quite interesting with less of a one-size-fits-all mixed bag and more of a strict social hierarchy. Races are of a more folklorey, traditional sort- you've got your humans of course, trolls, goblins aren't the colourful bandits you normally find but an abused workforce, elves are definitely not Tolkien-esque either, they are aggressive tribes people with an unappealing alien appearance.
Ability checks feel more significant and personal, since difficulties are judged by the player or NPC's stats. The players make all the rolls, if they want to sneak past a guard, they roll their discrete modified negatively by how good the enemy's resilience is. If the enemy sneaks up on the player, the player rolls their vigilance modified by the enemy's discrete.
The lore is really nice and fleshed out since it focuses on a relatively small region compared to the sprawling world of DND.
>>55342633
Havent had a chance to play it, but it's high on the list. I like the setting and mechanics a lot.
