Thank god - finally a fucking working example of the game.
I've been wanting to play this for ages, but couldn't figure out the mechanics.
Tell me your favorite system, and then explain why it's your favorite in the most subjective/non-proselytizing way possible.
In other words, explain why you love it without trying to:
1. Sell it to other people.
2. Write a love letter to the game mechanics themselves.
Examples: D&D 3.5 because sexy dungeonpunk art and nostalgia and fuck you WotC I'm not buying new books again.
GURPS because I loved legos as a kid and yeah I like rules sometimes too so fucking sue me.
Fate because honestly I'm just kinda lazy and my players don't care what I tell them we're playing anyway.
Exalted because sexy bitches, amusing post-game anecdotes, also WoD had too many goths for me to get into so now I'm here instead.
FATAL because I started playing ironically but then I got trapped in a post-irony campaign and I have to admit I kind of like it now.
Song of Swords because I have beaten wife syndrome and even though I know in my heart it's actually no better than RoS and it will never be finished, I still force my faith in Jimmy because I've already invested too much of my soul in it to stop now.
Legends of the Wulin because no other system has the same combination of satisfying crunch and narrative focused design, meaning that despite it's problems it's the only way I can experience that kind of gameplay.

So, here's a question I don't see asked nearly enough: What is it like being a farmer in your current setting?
What kind of Crops, Livestock, and Monsters do these farmers respectfully have to grow, raise, and protect themselves from in order to do what they need to do to survive?
>>54307112
In the last setting I ran being a farmer was pretty good in most places. Dwarves and Orcs had loads of mills so grains were staple, as were leaf vegetables and fruits (also potatoes). For animals cows, sheep, pigs, chickens and the likes were often used. Monsters weren't held that often, and if you didn't live near the borders you were safe. Near the borders you were mostly fucked.
Last setting I played I didn't interact much with farmers, but they were busy folk, not really giving me time to talk with them... Though I think living in a city controlled by Day-Walking Xeno-morph Vampires does that to you. (this DM)
Current setting I'm working on (in the kingdom the players will start out in) Farmers can thrive if they work 8-10hrs a day on most days, assuming they have enough land to work, which really is the hard part considering its heavily forested wetlands. This also means it's too wet for most things like potatoes and carrots as they will rot, but rice grows well, and on the higher areas they like to grow wheat and pumpkins for the rich. Trees-a-plenty so nuts and fruits are staple. Most animals are held, but goats are preferred over cows, as they are more aggressive towards the goblins that roam in the wilderness between settlements. (I used Grain to Gold while designing and my notes are still elsewhere, so my memory is a little hazy on this one)

Depends on where you are
>Location A
You pay your 10% of gross food production to your local baron
>Location B
You compete with your neighbors to produce the tastiest and most plentiful food, so that you may have a seat in the local council
>Location C
You try to protect your crops from roving HydraGeese by siccing your loyal gatorhounds on them to scare them away
>Location D
Manual labor is for people who are unfortunate enough to not have mastered necromancy
>Location E
You and your village hoard your tomatumurs and cystcumbers grown from the flesh fields in a communal silo so that when the nomadic tribes of drug addled crazies come by in caravans drawn by their mutated steeds you have enough to pay them tribute.
>>54307112
I've been sort of obsessing over my !Spain/What I imagine Rosaria from FF12 style country, a big part of it is that the country swings heavily from being super big on fish (their main religion is a Sea Goddess with the religion itself dressed up in Catholic cloths) and the other parts of the country are more arid and not good for farming but big on herds of cow like beast called Autons (where the cowboys in my setting mostly come from)
Any news on a properly edited reedition?
Never going to happen. Eos press died when the Chinese half of the company ran off with Jenna Moran's kickstarter money. The whole thing is defunct.
Although that does mean someone else could swoop in with a rewrite and try to give the system another go. I've got some friends working on one with me, but it's slow going.
>>54307065
Unless you decide to make one, eight ball says 'fat chance'.
>>54307395
Do you have a site / discord group / other?
>>54307425
A few of us hang about in the #LotW channel on sup/tg/, even though it's usually pretty dead. We've yet to really get far with it though, mostly because we're all people who've played the system enough that we're not happy with rewriting it, we want to start tweaking mechanics and changing things.
Let me hear your /tg/ confessions.
I'll start.I really only like to shitpost about femarines to make people mad, but I also would buy femarines if they were released.
>>54306861
I secretly get really excited when I think I'm about to kill a player. I sometimes fantasise about cool ways to kill players as I'm falling asleep and subtly goad them towards their deaths in session.
>>54306861
I'm a complete prude, who starts loudly complaining whenever sexual content comes up in the game. My characters also tend to be super religious, often with vows of chastity, or some other reason why they behave like sexless robots.Privately, however, it's a whole other business. I even wrote a short story about the rest of PCs raping and dominating my paladin and turning her into a sex slave. Nobody would ever look at me the same, if they ever read it.
I know that half the party is actively breaking rules in combat, though I expect none of them realize they're fucking it up.I deliberately haven't mentioned it because it's helping with balanceFurthermore, one of those rules errors is the result of me getting the rules wrong, and I deliberately haven't bothered to correct myself on it since it's making the OP character less OP.
Does anyone else find that the stakes in fantasy RPG campaigns tend to escalate far too quickly?
Unless the campaign is intentionally structured as a dungeon-crawling hexcrawl, it feels like campaigns always jump straight from "fledgling heroes deal with local monsters and thieves" to "the PCs are the only hope for the kingdom/continent/multiverse against the ultimate forces of evil" within a few sessions. No matter what expected power level the campaigns I've played start at, we end up holding personal audience with kings and racing to thwart world-threatening plots before even hitting level five (or equivalent, for non level systems).
>>54305469
Because players become stronger. Imagine level 20 wizard fighting wolves in the forest for his whole life.
>>54305469
Sounds like you need to discuss this issue with your GM and fellow players.
>>54305469
No, I don't find that at all. Then again, I'm the not quite forever GM, and I take pains to avoid that.I generally try to jam pack the world with problems, personages, conflicts, etc. While the PCs might save the country/world/whatever, they will very much NOT be the one and only hope for salvation, and at the very least they'll be competing for resources and attention with other would be heroes, if not actively needing their support to take down whatever it is.
Hey /tg/ I've been lurking here for a few years and watching yt series of ttg games but only recently started playing myself.
>first session
>joining level 4 campaign as a goblin cavalier
>enter ogre spider lair
>"how large are the butt spike things it has?"
>"as big as a boar" says DM holding hands out wide
>kill it and I take them with me.
>ask blacksmith to fashion it into a lance
>"oh its only like a quarter of a meter long it won't do anything"
> other players and I point out its as "long as a boar"
> DM doesn't budge, says it just ends up being a tiny thing strapped to the end of my old lance.
>treated as masterwork after lots of persuading. DM was gonna make it entirely pointless.
>charged 165 gp to tie stick to another stick essentially.
I'm new so I don't know if this is dm bullshittery or I'm just a retardo. What does /tg/ think?
Its pathfinder system if that helps.
General monster weapons thread I guess.
>>54304213
>Its pathfinder system if that helps.
Pathfinder is generally the opposite of helpful.
It's obvious your GM doesn't want you doing this, so either stop it or ask your fellow players to convince him. Otherwise drop it.

>Which rules should I follow?
If you don't already have some homebrew version with friends, follow the MTGO card pool and banlist (and please spread this to your friends that start playing with you). Currently the only place Pauper is officially supported by Wizards is online, and they have a card pool and banlist, therefore that is the format we should be using offline on paper as well, since decks and cards can transfer to games between each other with no confusion.
>WAHHH THATS TOO HARD WHERE...
http://www.mtg-hunter.com
The bottom left has a box, select MTGO Pauper, all cards in the card pool and banlist are taken into account.
>What deck should I use?
Ask in the thread!
>Is MTGO worth it?
If you have no local paper competition, but want to play a vast amount of Pauper, it can't be beat, even if it is a clunky GUI, you learn quickly.

It's like you don't even want to have fun
>>54302836
Pauper is shit for brewing though, it's probably the worst constructed format to brew in. The power level is high yet the complexity level is (relatively) low, so established, powerful archetypes are going to dumpster anything you brew that strays too far from those.
Is this analogy correct?
>Pathfinder is to 5e as a Honda Civic is to a Ford Prius
Pic unrelated
Op is to faggot as edition wars are to overplayed horseshit
I don't get it.
So to any /k/omrades lurking around; would the setup in OP's pic work, or would it just fall apart on the first shot?
What vidya does /tg/ play when your group is not available?
Digital board games are fun. Without getting into the huge amount of shit on Tabletop Simulator, my group tends to play Sentinels of the Multiverse together if we want something more mechanically engaging, or Mysterium if we're into something more conversational and deductive.
There are also some pretty great digital only board games, like Armello or Gremlin's Inc which are very much worth a look.
>>54300285
OXENFREE. You can play that forever.
I also enjoy zoning out with Diablo II.
Finally picked up dark souls 3, it's kicking my ass but I'm in love
LET THIS BE OUR FINAL CONFRONTATION!
Over nearly twenty years two mighty champions of Khaos and Order have hurt each other in every way that matters as they fought across time and space. They have destroyed each other’s bodies, they have killed each others families, they have driven off every loyal ally they could once call upon for aid. Now, finally, they stand on the precipice of their long-promised final confrontation, gathering the last reserves of their strength and arming themselves with their most potent weapons.
HE is the Nemesis, the Deathbringer, the holder of the Sword Sinister, Khaos Incarnate. HE is the Grandmaster, the Chief of the Tube Police, the Ultimate Human, Order Personified. Let Battle be joined!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=29zw6TV3MPw
Nemesis the Warlock is a sword and sorcery comic published in the British weekly anthology 2000AD that Warhammer 40,000 ripped off extensively. As such, elements of it can be used by players and GMs of 40k rpgs with very little work. The weird, gothic setting is also interesting enough to be used in its own right, and its exploration of what it means to be a follower of Order and Chaos could be helpful D&D players.

Does your setting have Celebrity adventurers?
>>54295259
I never thought of that, that's a great idea.
But what kind of personalities could a celebrity adventurer be expected to have?
>>54295259
Yes. Famous and infamous souls, be they heroes of a grand quest or the dreary battlefield, often treated as living legend and in some cases cut down by ambitious bandits or upstart duelists looking to make a name for themselves. Some of them really manage to live up to their own hype though and are nothing at all to sneeze at. Those are the ones that live long enough to tell tales of past exploits to little ones gathered near the fire.
Actually yes. Famous adventurers are great for nation propaganda.
