What system would you use to run a game in middle-fantasy pre-christian Ireland, /tg/? I've been giving it some thought for a while, and GURPs is the only one I've given serious thought to. Problem is, I don't know jackshit about GURPS.

GURPS Celtic Myth for fluff, GURPS Basic Set for rules, GURPS Low-Tech for lifestyle and gear, GURPS Fantasy or Dungeon Fantasy 1 for templates. Basic Set's magic is fine for your first game, but I recommend against using GURPS Magic since that's a shit-ton of spells.

For describing monsters, don't make them uniform. I had some mongrelmen on a 2e game, and i made them interesting by descrobing them in various fucked up ways- lne had a single oversized arm he used as a club, another had something that appeared to be a hybrid of frog and rabbit legs hat allowed him to jump high, a third had a picer and a fourth had something like a stonger im place of his arm. Its all about making your creatures feel unique. Yes, its a group of four goblins, but what are they doig? Huntimg? Well, one one has a rabbit-fur vest, if you can call it something that well designed, while another looks like he had am ear torm off in a fight wih something toothy. The third one is dragging a boar, and ge other three seem to be in he process of mocking it, while the fourth's spear is bloody and looks ready to break, presumably damaged by catchig the boar on the eye. Yes, its still 4 gpblins wih no mechanical difference- but now they have a reaspm to exist, context for what they're dping, and character. The players will remember this fight better than "you encounter 4 ogblin hunters. They menace with obsidian spears."

Is there a game that lets you fight and make your own monsters (Kaiju level shit) either as another monster (godzilla), or a big robot suit(Pacific Rim)?

>>
I have no idea but that sounds sweet. I want to know too
>>
>>54361660

Well for robots you could always steal emchmorpgers, but i don't think thats built for kaiju scale shit. It does have rules for playing as a space battleship, though, so y wouldn't be hard to make ot work. Just don't apply physics to the charge rules. My friend made a mortorcycle that could basically do an infinite mass punch, and it was still only double damage.

How do you feel about DMs including characters from PCs' backgrounds? How does one make sure not to fuck it up?

I always like it, but it's better if they're not hogging all the attention. I had a character whose father was a rich merchant and the DM used him to offer various quests. It was cool.
>>
>>54362431
That's pretty smart - it advances the whole story, not just one character. I would have thought it best to confine them to interactions with the character they know already, but this gives me ideas.

On one hand, It can be really cool to have your DM actually weave characters from your backstory into the world, really make you feel like you're a part of something.
One the other hand, well I'll give you an example;
I was playing a ninja, with the shadow creature template. As part of his backstory he came from a clan a ninja's whom, under the ancient ninja bylaws, were forbidden from ever being seen by anyone outside the clan. So I wasn't. Ever. Not by enemies, not by the party, nobody, for the whole campaign. One of the other PCs had been gaining political sway, which is why the clan sent my character to keep an eye on him, and eventually decided to ally with him. I informed the party of this (I communicated through notes left to be found) and they went to meet with my character's sister, who was a big name in the clan. When they get there they enter a room and it's full of perfectly visible ninjas, including my sister who is described as a typical bubbly, big-titted anime girl who greet the party warmly and explains "Oh, psh, Onii-san's the only one who still follows those dumb traditions".

Has /tg/ ever made thier own role playing system?

Maybe we should. Alot of us have experience writing modules and DM-ing and we may make a fun open source role-playing system.

Any ideas on how to start?

OP here,
So I can start things off.

First off this would be open source, and the rules would be free and available to everyone.

The system would be universal in scope, allowing all sorts of settings, time periods, and characters. However, a central theme should be uniform (let's not make a gurps clone basically).

To start discussion about that can be then maybe thinking that no matter the game setting, there are universal elements found in each game, these would be the stats and what the represent.

Any way we cut it for physical attributes, attributes that allow contact of magic or wonderous power can be two side of the same coin. These two attributes would center the games theme. A dialectical existence. For example, it can be called black and white, or soul and heart, whatever they are, they are somewhat antithetical of each other but still colors or parts of being.

Anyone else what to contribute.

I'm just thinking that we could make something really special since we are all anonymously making suggestions to a system that no ibe person leads in design. We as a site/board have a unique perspective on how role-playing can be
>>

>The system would be universal in scope, allowing all sorts of settings, time periods, and characters. However, a central theme should be uniform (let's not make a gurps clone basically).
GURPS, then, but with a setting that has multiple points along the timeline fluffed out for play.

>A dialectical existence.
Or Fate, again just with a single setting with multiple time periods to play in.

>I'm just thinking that we could make something really special since we are all anonymously making suggestions to a system that no ibe person leads in design.
AdEva is what happens when you crowdsource system design, and AdEva is shit. Well, there additional reasons for it, but one of the primary ones was too many cooks.

Settings still have this problem, but it's easier to change a setting than it is to change a system. Regardless, both benefit from something /tg/ is actually decent at: crowdsourcing ideas that you then fuck off with into your game designer den and come out with something presentable a few months later.

I've actually been thinking about it
>2D four button fighter
>Most similar gameplay wise to SF
>Similar pricing structure to Killer Instinct
>Cato Sicarius and Kharn are free to play
>1 free to play slot rotates among the rest of the cast
>Roster is Cato Sicarius, Kharn, Commissar Yarick, Jain-Zar, Lelith Hesperax, Shadowsun, Badrukk, Vargard Oberon.
>Cato and Kharn are similar, the shotos of the cast, Yarick is a grappler, Jain Zar is aerial, Lelith is rushdown, Shadowsun is keepaway, Badrukk is an item character with ammo runts,Oberon has pokes and regen
>Netherrealm style taunts at the opening of the match and destructible stages
>Loot boxes for cosmetics to pimp out a character, each of which has a lore tidbit attatched
>Basic meter which enables EX moves and supers in addition to a bonus meter for each character. Lelith has a meter that can't be spent which gives her more buffs as it goes up, but decays over time. Badrukk and Shadowsun have ammo runt/drone support on meter that can't be replenished.
>Health works like fantasy strike where it's measured in pips rather than a solid bar
>Have seasons where new characters are added as DLC
>Netherrealm style story mode at launch, each new season adds another chapter
>>
>>54361778
I think the armyaspect should be more relevant. Probably something like each character having an "army assist" meter instead of the usual "super" meter.

Is Fantasy Strike getting traction? I really like what the game's doing.

I'd imagine that losing a cat would leave the rogue with an injury of some kind, but that the rogue, could stand to lose several before reforming without them would leave her with a grievous injury like a missing limb or internal damage.

What are some things a character could do during one and half year in a medieval prison? What could he learn? Which kind of skills would improve/suffer due to his treatment there? Maybe Ideas for positve/negative traits?
29 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
Positives
>Connection with criminals goes up tremendously. When that character gets out, they should know who's who in the criminal world.
>Maverick/Makeshift skills rising. Can make a shiv or other such tool if need be with very minimal resources.
>Mental fortitude would rise, assuming they're not completely broken by the system, training themselves to resist intimidation and remain cool under pressure.

Negatives
>Due to torture and beatings, body may not heal right, getting some stat debuffs in the physical areas.
>Charisma will probably be hindered outside of intimidation, due to life on the inside being different than life on the outside
>Maybe a few obvious physical changes to the character

Prisons weren't really a thing in the medieval age. The state wasn't keen on wasting money feeding riff-raff and the likes.

People were detained in cells while they awaited trial or punishment.

Prison sentences were a rare thing and usually reserved for people that were too politically important to straight-up execute.

A criminal could expect to be fined, flogged, pilloried, exiled, have his assets seized or be executed.

Some of the wealthiest coyld sometimes be sentenced to house arrest.

Hear ye, hear ye. I hereby call to order this meeting of the most illustrious Mages Guild!
I don't think I've been this angry for a while. The HEALERS have gone on strike! Uppity oath taking idiots have the nerve to claim we send too many people their way. Injuries, dismemberments, and third degree burns are at an all time low for hell's sake, back in my day there were waiting times of up to an hour and that was ignoring the casting time on some of those spells.
Regardless of their complaints, we shall soldier on. Pain and wounds cannot stop our research and progress. We shall carry on as normal to spite them!

Welcome to the Mages' Guild. Pick a name and join in! Conflicts are resolved with d20s when needed, or with playing it out. When the thread dies on /tg/, we keep it going on archived.moe. For additional resources, please visit http://1d4chan.org/wiki/Mage%27s_guild or http://collabedit.com/6fvae

>>
>>54354840
So huge creatures that live by expending relatively little energy and constantly consuming abundant creatures with no defenses. You'd need your settings krill equivalent and I guess what their feeding method is. The main question though is why, it's a comparison which paints dragons being immpressive but largely passive enteties, which is fine but doesn't tend to make for interesting stories, hence why dragons tend to be greedy and destructive, that breeds inherent problems. I feel like this would make dragons into window-dressing as oppossed to things the players interact with.
