Why are games like dnd 5e and pathfinder as successful?
what needs do they fill that other games don't?
Cultural inertia.
Armies of fanatical grognards always ready to proselitize.
All of momma Hasbro's money to advertise and bribe.
>>54412114
cause if you can sell an idea for money, you can sell fucking anything.
>>54412197
which is the irony, since nobody will buy an idea for money.
So lets say we have two Chaos Space Marines. One spends a thousand years destroying two SM chapters, personally slaying every single marine. The other spends a thousand years doing nothing but killing squigs.
CSM1: 2000 skulls
CSM2: 1,000,000,000 skulls.
Which one has more favour with Khorne?
>>54411944
That's all well and good, but come on.
Do you REALLY think follower of Khorne would be intelligent enough to count to more than 10?
(Depending on how much fingers he got left, even less)
>>54411944
>The other spends a thousand years doing nothing but killing squigs.
Were they particularly ornery squigs?
>>54411944
The one that was consumed by hatred, gods dont care about material things but rather care about the intensity of your actions.
How do you label a person who is like a village still steals from banks steals power enhancing artifacts breaks multiple laws to make themselves more powerful and sometimes fights heroes but will go out of his way to save civilians from Bloodthirsty villains and natural Disasters? Someone like Cat woman
>>54411138
Anti-hero.
I think, you aren't really clear in what you are describing.
>>54411138
Is this an alignment question? Catwoman is pretty textbook chaotic neutral.
>>54411138
Are you pregnant? Because you've missed several periods.Okay, commas, but still. That post is borderline unreadable.
last thread died. going through the last two threads to fill my notebook. dumping on Pasteben/Google Doc tomarrow.
lets make this the last "official" thread. because I don't want this to become a General or something.
>>54410988
so yeah, if theres any last things we need to go over, this is the thread to do it in.
just dumping art to Bump this thread in the meantime
I know you guys claim to hate Critical Role and Felicia Neigh/Wesley Wheaton. But do you loathe Geek & Sundry in total?
Also, did fucking foreververse get canceled?!
>>54410917
Billy Wheatoff has a really punchable face, but I don't megaloathe him.
>>54410917
Geek and Sundry is promoting the beta cuck numale "geek" culture
gands is alright for bringing critical role but i fucking hate the communities they are the absolute worst i've ever seen even worse than beliebers and all that other bullshit lol
Is it possible for a Cthulhu monster to be benevolent?
>>54410842
Nothing George R.R. Martin creates is benevolent.
>>54410842
Sure
Have you ever caught a bug and thrown it outside instead of killing it, or rescued a drowning bee from a bucket of water?
There you go.
>>54410905
I alway reasoned like this. If their mere presence fucks over our entire planet it makes sense they stay far behind distant stars, its like when you avoid stepping on the ant roads.
Well, well, well. Why hello there, and welcome to the Bureau. How are you doin this fine evening? I do so hope you are doing well! But enough with that! Let us proceed with the meet and greet, shall we?
Bump.
>>54410795
>Bureau: Advanced Anti-Memetics
BAAM?
>>54411796
~Yes~.
/tg/ I need someone to explain to me why d% games are bad. Preferably mostly baseless accusations and statements for the first 15 posts interspersed with some good discourse and ultimately the thread derailing into something else entirely.
To help with this, I've posted a picture of a golf ball, which should be particularly enraging.
>>54410793
The d20 system has been literally refined for fifty years, making it superior by virtue of being the most popular system for more than a decade.
>hurr durr I shoot Cthulhu in the face with a boat and then roll to go INSANE because things mankind was never meant to know!!!!!! xD
This is the average level of retardation of your typical d% player.
>>54410793
>d%
>literally just a d20 with 5% increments
That's why. Also roll-under is garbage compared to roll-over in general.
>>54410825
Actually, you're discounting Runequest as being the Third Oldest RPG after D&D and Tunnels and Trolls, it's had almost as much time to mature, and RuneQuest being the origin of most modern d100 systems, actually presents a better case than Cthulhu ever did.
>>54410844
My counterargument is the "Nat 1/20 lol" meme.
Would you allow him at YOUR table?
You have to go back.
>>54410750
He's probably slightly more tolerable than the guy who scours rebbit for badwrongfun to show off on /tg/.
>>54410798
>scours
World Eaters are the most powerful Legion. Similarly they have the most powerful Primarch. It's very simple math to prove this statement.
Space Marine + Nails (Powerful Dark Age technology) + Khorne's blessing (Most powerful God) = World Eater
Space Marine + Weaker God's blessings = Other CSM
Space Marine = Loyalist SM
World Eater > Other Chaos Space Marines > Loyalist
This simple arithmetic can be applied to the primarchs as well. This we can confirm that Angron is quite easily the most powerful Primarch. Please carefully review the above math before attempting to disagree.
>>54410683
The nails the World Eaters got were of a lesser quality than what Angron had.
Angrons nails hurt him physically but mentally he eventually "levelled out". The nails put into the WE turned them feral eventually.
Making them just as shit at dealing with range weapons as the gladiators that came before them.
>most powerful legion
>most powerful primarch
>ran away on Terra
What did he mean by this?
>>54410683
Not so fast, Manlet
It is canonical that the Ultramarines are the best Space Marines
What do you think of weapon durability, /tg/? Do you think keeping your weapons in a decent condition should have a mechanical impact, or a purely narrative asset?
What about other things in the same vein, such as hunger and thirst for the actual PCs?
>>54410197
Depends on the system, setting, and of course game tone and style.
>>54410239
Care to elaborate on your meme response?
>>54410317
I think that's pretty obvious.
I don't care for such details in high fantasy game where heroes are battling armies and throw around spells capable of levelling cities. There may be a mechanic that allows GM to break equipment as a narrative action, or maybe some powerful enemies being capable of doing so, but it doesn't need all the nitty gritty tiny details.
On the other hand if I'm playing a dark low fantasy game about mercenary company I would very much expect to have all the hunger, thirst, diseases, damaged weapons and armor, and so on. Because it works and adds to the game theme.
Poker Thread? Brags, beats, variance. How are you running?
>>54409612
Literally never played Poker before. It's very intimidating, since the only people who seem to play have been playing for awhile. I'd hate to just try and learn with people that good, you know?
Plus I don't necessarily understand the appeal (but I know that I haven't played it and thus shouldn't. I bet it's fun if you're getting into it.)
>>54409642
I totally get you. The thing with poker is that it doesn't feel like there is a casual poker scene, aside from home games. Because there's always money on the line, so that brings competitive people. The alternative is play money, which just feels pointless. The appeal of poker is reading your opponent, outsmarting them, and making fat cash and having a great time while it's happening. That spirit of competition is what makes it fun imo, but I've always played competitive card games, so maybe I just have a bug for it.
>>54409642
Also, if you have any passing interest, try watching some videos or reading a book about poker. Super interesting stuff, hooked me right away when I started.
I bet you thought we were done with bread metaphors.

None of the Companion-related scenarios will grant CP, however I will be adding "forfeit reward for CP" to a few I have now and to all future ones. The ones I have done so far are:
>Hellscream's Future (do a thing about Garrosh)
>After The End (BAD FUTURE IS BAD)
>Linken's Quest (Old quest chain turned up to 11)
>Arena Champion (Gurgthock's arena questlines: Ring of Blood -> Amphitheater of Anguish -> Crucible of Carnage ->Arena of Annihilation -> Gorian Proving Grounds)
>You Awaken In Razor Hill (let's see how many people get THIS old thing)
>Her Tallest (help Boss Mida Silvertongue come to rulership of The Bilgewater Cartel over Jastor Gallywix)
>Sons of Barov (help Alexi or Weldon kill the other remaining Barovian Brother to become the sole inheritor of Barov Industries - or rather, the remnants of it)
got a few more in the works besides that.
Reminder that fun is banned by fiat.
>>54408185
You can't force me not to have fun, Superman! I'll have fun even if I shouldn't be able to. You'll never comprehend my genius. Also why are you holding a gun and wearing bunny ears? Are you high or something? Am I high? How can our eyes be real if mirrors aren't real?
Ion Sorcerer King of Adytum, along with all of his Karcists and Klavigars descends upon the 40k setting. What happens /tg/?
>>54408051
Gets nuked. Space nuked. Like any real problem gets solved when it's big enough.
>>54408194
That might destroy *some* of the Karcists and Klavigars, especially if they manage to take them by surprise, but it won't do shit against Jon. He's the avatar of Yaldabaoth, the God-Eater, it's going to take more than vaporizing a planet to do him in.
>>54408544
*Meant Ion, damn able auto-correct.
I'm starting the prep for a the next big dungeon delve, its going to be an abnormal dungeon compared to usual. its going to have the players entering the machine tower!! a tower built by a mad man with corridors that change and floors that can't be accessed.
with that in mind I'm looking here first to see if anyone has beat me to it? by that i mean is there anywhere else i can read about a dungeon full of mechanisms and shit so see what i can do to improve mine. maybe get some ideas for stuff to add in.
tl;dr mechanical dungeon, whats to put in it? who's done it better?
Considering the nature of certain common traps I think most dungeons are at least a little clockwork
>>54407128
So, nobody is in the tower?
Just automatic mechanisms? Maybe automatons?I would add not-Jawas derailing the tower.
>>54407128
Could be some wheel of time style dungeon, with like a huge clock in the middle with its pointers being bridges across. Also modron guardians etc and Clockwork angels hunting you for messing with time itself
