Ok, so this is where I give you an uncomfortable truth: /tg/ is not the bastion of creativity we once pretended it was. And beyond that, the eternal controversy surrounding 5e and D&D just kills any kind of homebrew for it on here. Even more so there's a massive stigma against using homebrew in the /tg/ 5e community. I honestly wish it were different.

All in all, you want an actual community for developing 5e spells, classes, and subclasses? /r/UnearthedArcana blows every other community out of the water in sheer content that's been generated, AND percentage of that content that's actually good. I highly recommend the Sprawling Chaos supplement.

I can't make my fucking PCs leave this fucking castle alone. They've spent 130k gold on it so far and they keep trying to turn DCC into ACKS and won't even play ACKS. I actually reduced the entire thing to ruins with a massive giant attack and they were like "Oh man this must have something really valuable in the catacombs if a giant army wanted it." And rebuilt it. Dragons blow up towers and they have them rebuilt. They've been doing this so long they're on their third set of PCs, with around 19 level 10 pcs that just sort of wander the fuck around being walking demigods. I have this entire world built and all they want to do is hang out in this castle and "investigate the mysteries." I made the fucking mistake of having one of them, after 10 sessions of digging into the god damn ground, actually find a hidden chamber with a shitty +1 sword and now they've got armies of craftsmen in there, tunneling, holing out and making a small subterranean city. Had them bump into a dwarven thaig or whatever and get invaded, ruining all of their progress. Fuck it, we got lots of gold let's build it all again but this time with more shit. I can't fucking handle this anymore. My players. Will not. Leave. This castle.

Jet packs with modern technology are pretty impractical. They're dangerous, heavy, and short ranged.

It doesn't really make sense to have units take jetpacks which can fly for about 10 minutes. After that they have to be ditched or be a massive burden.

They might have some use to insert special forces type guys, as well as other niche roles, but for general use there's no real point.

Many of Lovecraft's stories especially his early ones draw heavy inspiration from Gothic literature. Namely Poe.

Stories like In the Vault, Rats in the Walls, the Terrible Old Man, The Outsider, The Hound and the Lurking Fear all so some elements of more classical horror.

Thread Question: How have / can we used Gothic elements to modify, improve or subvert typical Lovecraftian games? What lessons and tricks can we use or take away?

Also what Gothic Settings do we find appealing?

For the major arcana, if you don't want to literally name the characters after the cards I would go with giving them numbers and very clear gimmicks related to their numbers, like Mr. 4 wearing a crown or Ms. 10 fighting using a giant wheel. As for how to set them up, Jojo Part 3 managed it, but definitely not in a subtle manner. Maybe have the players be stuck protecting someone or something from the hunters over the course of the campaign, or trying to get to a specific goal with progressively more dangerous hunters attempting to intercept.

My campaign has three tiers of magic items:
1) Common/uncommon minor items, mostly consumables, wondrous items and clothing.
2) Customizable weapons/armor. Runed gems can be fused with the weapons/armor in order to make them magical. The gems can be either found as treasure or made from raw magic gems. These go from uncommon to rare to very rare in terms of power level.
3) Artifacts, with special tiers of power that can be unlocked by performing certain rites. Some can be fused with runed gems for additional effects at higher tiers of power.

OK, and where do these three tiers go? How powerful items are we talking about here?
Compare it to basic 3.5 +1...+5 sword.
