In terms of a DnD skillset he'd probably be a rogue or barbarian, though that could probably vary a lot depending on the episodes you're looking at

This is a thread for talking about, working on, and exchanging explanations and understandings for things that are an important part of settings and game mechanics, but for which we don’t always have a solid grasp of the in universe workings of and would be hard pressed to give a detailed or solid explanation of in character.

Examples include things like knowledge of the real nature of the universe, or the insignificance of humanity in said universe causing derangement in lovecraftian systems. We know this is a thing, we know what it does to people, and if the system we are using has rules to abstract this phenomena out and chart its progression, then we know how those rules work.

The same is true for exposure to alien or chaotic things in Warhammer 40k RPGs. Though at least with chaos and the warp specifically there are analogues to exposure to radiation, toxic and mind altering chemicals, and mutagens that make it easier to get a grasp on.

One thing that seems to be less common to have are ideas about how and why certain knowledges that aren’t magic can warp minds and turn them terrible, or straight up kill them, whether they want this to happen or not. A lot of the time this isn’t a problem because:

A.) As players are not often in the situation of playing characters who have some more nuanced level of understanding of these forces and how they work, or think that they do.

B.) Even if the character we are playing does possess such an understanding, or believed understanding, it is not often in most games that we are called upon to play our characters explaining this understanding to another character, nor are we often put into situations where the nuances of our character’s understanding of these forces would cause them to behave any differently than the vast majority of characters who don’t have such an understanding.

But when we do want or need to come up with such an understanding, belief, or explanation (actual or merely believed to be so) for why and how looking at the shoggoth makes you crazy, or why learning the secrets of xenotech leads to madness, it can be difficult.

So please, share explanations have you encountered or come up with for why a bit of knowledge can be more dangerous than you would think, and any times you’ve played a game where that has become relevant or important.

I myself am having am currently having a problem related to the latter and would appreciate any advice or assistance you could give.

The setting is 40k and the game is rogue trader. We aren’t using the fantasy flight system, however the elements of insanity and corruption are still there and abstracted out in the Frankenstein system we are using.

We are currently in the lower levels of an arch-heretek’s fortress built into a moon in a system that we are investigating because it belongs to the rogue trader’s dynasty but was erased from star charts by someone. (This campaign has been going on for over a year and a half now so in the interest of saving time and space I’m not going to go further into why we are where we are.)

My character, an eldar contacted into the service of the rogue trader, killed a pair of prisoners (2 deeply faithful magos who our enemy had captured and handed over to the Arch-heretek who then fitted with mind control devices and forced to operate necron devices for him, while the heretek’s dangerously charismatic boss manipulated the faith of these two men into a miraculous will to resist him that delayed the onset of madness from what they were being made to do, so long as they remained in that condition of resisting active enslavement) because he figured out that they had been too damaged by the experiences and forbidden knowledge they had been exposed to stay stable. In other words they looked saveable, unless you could see minds and souls with the clarity of an eldar, and had seen humans fall enough times to know where this was going.

In crunch terms you could say their insanity scores were maxed out but none of it had resolved yet, but would begin to.

Our explorator is an idealistic and insatiably curious magos biologis with a deep sympathy for the enslaved (servitors are not the same thing because they are just automatons that happen to include people parts, or so the belief goes). The explorator also believes in the power of human will. The idea that non-chaotic, non-demonic, knowledge and expereinces can corrupt someone to the point that they can become a threat whether they want to or not is alien to her.

This combination of tremendous technical skill and knowledge with dangerous levels of naivety, curiosity, and idealism is completely in keeping with the character's backstory and experiences. (And, yes, if you are wondering, it has also been biting the character in the ass in terms making decisions and embarking on projects that have made enemies and lead to a declining sanity score. So if that kind of character triggers you please keep it to yourself so as not to distract from the subject of what I’m asking for help with. )

So
Do you have any advice on how to have my character do the following?:

>1.) Explain to this magos that knowledge that doesn't come from deamons, the warp, or evil tomes, can indeed corrupt someone, and that situations can push a person to the point that they become dangerous, even if it is completely against their will to do so.

>2.) Explain that this situation was indeed irrefutably such a situation and therefore killing these magos who wanted nothing more than to know the emperor/ommnisiah forgave them for something that they were not at fault for and had no choice in, was the correct action and spared them from a fate worse than death.

>3.) In the Process, avoid revealing information that would warp the mind of the magos, or any other human who heard it, and won't turn the party against my character.

In other words.
My character knows, understands, and can explain something that I, the player, Don’t understand. Namely how forbidden or alien knowledge can corrupt humans. So I am asking for ways to understand and approach this subject, and ideas on how to explain it in a way a someone scientifically minded can understand and accept, so that I can play my character right.

You move to a new one when the old one is full of old posts. Because those old posts might be shit.

Because it's so disconnected from typical D&D character art like in the other thread.

Post character art that fits a Victorian, Gothic, Gaslamp (Victorian Fantasy), Gunpowder, Pike and Shot, etc. setting.

>The shop is manned by an old, kind widow
>She's in her late years, and the village takes care of her so she has no need for money, instead she asks you to help her get the ointment from the attic (She doesn't usually have many people buying it)
>You need to get a step ladder first tough, thankfully the carpenter is willing to help if you wait for him to finish an errand
>After obtaining the ladder, you realize the attic door is stuck, so the blacksmith agrees to unlock the door if you spend some time with his kid
>Kid says he's lonely there as he's the only child in the entire village, he gets taught by the librarian who's in her late 40s, kid wishes he could live in the city and go to a school with all the other kids
>Party goes back and the door is finally unstuck revealing the pantry with the remaining Ointments
>It's revealed there's only one ointment left in the multiple stacked, yet empty boxes, the widow seems saddened and feels bad of letting it go, but gives it to you with a smile on her face as she bids you farewell
>As you leave, a young couple is seen packing their furniture on a caravan and leaving the village alongside with you

Not sure what to tell you, but that the story gives off a sense of relatively subtle sadness, and this kind of nuanced storytelling is rare and pleasant to see in this hobby.
Also, Shuna no Tabi is an absolutely beautiful piece of art, fantastic tale with fantastic art and fantastic, subtle worldbuilding.
So massive props for both.

A thread got bumped off the board for this bullshit, you know. There's a perfectly good 5e general you could have used.

1920-1960- people begin being born with super powers all over the world. Their birth is followed by many countries using these people for military efforts and political gain. What starts as small programs become full fledged super teams from each country. This comes to a head in WW1/WW2. In WW1 Italy, Australia, Japan, and the United kingdom governments are taken over by incredibly strong telepaths who attempt to unite their countries and take over the world. The ensuing war sank new Zealand and destroyed much of western Europe. Afterwards it was deemed unsafe for those with powers to be in any form of government. This led to a shut down of all agencies that relied on supers and returned them to civilian lives. It wasn't long after the dismantling that new Zealand rose from the ocean, rebuilt and populated with only supers. The island hovered its way across the ocean and towards Asia, where they delivered an attack so powerful it wiped out the Fijian islands and half of India. Their demands were simple surrender to the authority of 'Haven' or burn. The world sat back, unsure of what to do when the previous war time heroes stepped up and fought Haven on their behalf. With their combined efforts they destroyed the floating island and buryed it in the ocean. Survivors fled while others were arrested as war criminals.

>>54261227
1960-1990 after the war those with powers stayed active, but not funded or controlled back the government. They formed their own teams or worked solo as heroes fighting back against surving haven members who kept trying to destroy and take over cities, countries, and sometimes the world. The population of earth saw them as heroes and villains, but those titles slowly turned sour. With no government guidance or accountability the heroes efforts that resulted in death and destruction fell to the taxpayers to pay for and they hated it. After a giant man attacked Russian and leveled half of Moscow the Russian government approached the U.N. with a proposal to globally outlaw heroes and that villains be dealt with as terrorist and handled by the U.N. it was agreed upon and heroes were outlawed with a global set of laws and power restrictions on people with powers.
>>
It's an interesting background for the setting, but who are the players? What are they doing? What is the current state of the world?
>>
>>54261239
1995-2010 with the government now handling villains and those with powers under ability restricting laws there was a time of peace. Villains were slowly wiped out until completely gone and people were living nice quite lives. But those with powers felt that they couldn't live and be happy. They wanted to use their powers and under laws couldnt. A few protest groups emerged to try and change laws, but only on Argentina were they changed. The rest of the world stood strongly opposed. 4 months later, at a U.N. meeting the Argentinean delegate stood up and screamed "Omega freedom" and using the power of radiation proceeded to kill as many people as possible. The world was in shock and fear once again. Russia stepped forward in the aftermath and revealed that they had been working on a means to stop the threat of super humans. They revealed to the world a chemical capable of killing only super humans and materials able to restrain and hold even the strongest man. With hesitation the world joined Russia in a joint global security effort. Anyone with powers and using them in public was to be arrested and separated from the population for the safety o the general populace. Argentina did not join and was hit with sanctions and travel banned to and from there. The world was now at peace for everyone.

Does someone have DawnForge & Midnight collection?

There was a guy that once posted it on here (http://4chanarchive.net/threads/tg/PDF-Dump/30194125) Ctrl+F: Midnight;
However the mediafire link is dead.

I tried looking to newer PDF-dump threads but no one mentions them.

I also tried looking around and found many torrents, however they are dead as well.

I am mostly interested in Midnight alone but from the torrents and stuff they seem to come in a single "package".

Any help would be highly appreciated, thanks!

Okay, dumb question, I admit but I've been going back through the Warhammer 40 000 RPG books and been wondering what there is to do/stories to tell on a Forge World and while I quite like the Mechanicus I am a bit stumped on what to do with Forge Worlds as settings and Admech-related adventures that aren't related to mad science and techno-heresy. Can't help but think I'm looking at it wrong.

As the 15th Black Crusade closed in on Terra, Abaddon the Despoiler stood proud at the command deck of the Vengeful Spirit. Guilliman would be too late to stop him, Soon Drachn'yen would plunge into the Corpse Emperor and Chaos would reign supreme. Giving his final commands the Warmaster of Chaos retired to his quarters to take a few hours to rest his ancient corrupted form. Exiting his Armor of arcane and mechanical might he went to groom himself in his quarters. As he brushed his fangs, he glanced into his mirror and there he saw a impossible sight. "NO! YOU'RE DEAD!" was all that could enter Abaddon's startled brain before the Lord Castellan fired his Hellpistol and shouted "SURPRISE MOTHERFUCKER"

Who are we counting as main planeswalkers here? Because Garruk has been irrelevant forever now. So irrelevant that when my group went out of their way to sneakily play them, they fucking forgot he was the OG green neowalker and made an admittedly less retarded not!Nissa instead.

By the by, it was Psion (Jace), Sorcerer (Chandra), Wizard (Liliana), Warden (Ajani), and Druid (Nissa).

Warden is a 4e class is it not? I'm guessing if we don't have to stick to 5th strickly Gideon would be a warblade? Or perhaps an Immortal in 5th
