Is this game good? I've read through the pdf and it seems fun but also has a lot of tables and shit. Are these as overwhelming in play as they look?

Is it worth switching from retroclones to this game?

If you don't enjoy rolling on tables, this game is obviously not for you.

Personally speaking, the way these tables are populated makes them very enjoyable.

I'm running a game thats set in the wild west and I'm looking for faction ideas. what kind of factions would exist in a world with magic/monsters/tinkerers/banditos/etc...

so far I've got your basic "mages guild" thats considered pretty old fashioned in setting. your basic factions from the year 1880. a bunch o anti mage kkk equivalent folks. and a group beating PETA to the punch saying "monsters aren't so bad"

Shapeshifter rights party.
While they can pass as human, and enjoy the appropriate level of civil rights for their apparent race and social status, if they are discovered to be a 'shifter they are no longer afforded those rights...
Similar groups might exist for other "species" that can also blend into human society, eg. vampires.

How many cards in a deck is "too many"?

Image related by having a deck of 160.
5 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
Depends on the game obviously.

When it comes to size, I personally like the size of 30-card decks - when placed on the table, they stand at a good height sleeved or unsleeved.

Anything under 20 looks wimpy when it's unsleeved. Anything higher than 50 starts to become too tall when sleeved. And anything over 80 becomes too difficult to shuffle when sleeved.
>>
>>54312899
Depends on how often you have to shuffle it. If often , then more than 100 is too much.
Else you can go all the way up to 300 before it becomes unmanageable.
>>
>>54312899
The way MtG defines it, a deck is too large if you cannot comfortably shuffle the deck without outside assistance.

In terms of an actual number, I'd say that 60 cards is the sweetspot and 100 cards is pushing it.

So not including the conditioned fears and phobias, there have been 5 identified universal fears.

Fear of Pain, you know you won't like how it feels, things like falling off high places and getting jabbed with needles.

Fear of Loss, the things we aquire dissapearing, the loss of a loved one.

Fear of Non-Gain for all your hard work and effort, for all the time and energy you put into something, what if you don't get what you were working for.

Fear of extinction, this feeling of death and loneliness. When you are treated like you don't exist and ignored by the people around you, the fear of death and non existance.

and the fear of uncertainty, the lack of control in your own life and of the world around you, things happening without you realising and working against you.

So if we consider these base psychological fears, how best do we design a monster to tap into these fears for a character.

many monsters that already exist fit into multiple categories.

Cthulhu technically delivers all 5 by destroying you and everything you know and love, whilst still being an unknowable being of immense unfathomable power.

I feel like body horror gets most of those. It can involve painful infections, death, invasion of the self, extinction of a species, and it typically uses the indifference of nature as a theme. So look at monsters from body horror.

Alright /tg/, me and a few of my friends have been wanting to play a tabletop game inspired by the settings and lore from MtG for quite a while now. The only problem, however, is that I have no idea what system I should use. I know that WotC made some 5e supplements recently, but not a single person I know likes 5e. Can anyone here help a nigga out and recommend me something that would be viable for this?

Right, so my buddy is letting me paint up his Space Hulk minis, and I can use them in games of 40k if I want. The mini I wanted most was the broodlord, but it has a bit of an issue.

You see, this picture is a picture of the backmost right arm. It's holding a skull in it, and it has this weird, stretchy bit connecting the hand to the arm. However, other people's broodlords online don't seem to have this. Is this supposed to be there? If so, how should I paint it? If not, how do I remove it properly without making it look like shit?

You talk to your buddy and hope he still has the box for Space Hulk, and then have him call up Games Workshop Customer Service because the part's defective.
Customer Service is GW's one saving grace throughout its entire time as a company - as long as you aren't literally scamming them, they'll replace shit. And usually not ask for the defective parts back in return, either.
>>
>>54312264
Ask your friend where he bought the game from then write it down. Then call GW and tell them the exact problem, they will then probably ask you where you bought it and what your address is, tell them.

they will then probably send you a complete new broodlord. It may not actually be a spacehulk broodlord.

ITT: Completely Useless Magical Items: Part 2!

I made a thread about this a few days ago and it did really well. I got some great ideas, and I'm hoping to keep this going. I'll post a list of all my favorites from the last thread (some with alterations) as well as other ideas I got while going through the thread in a moment, but first:

What we're going for are items that are undoubtedly magical, but completely useless/obsolete. There should be no reason at all to have/use these items.

Finally, before we get started, I have a message for the last anon who posted in that thread telling me to stop being a dick to my players: Try and stop me.

>telescope that fogs up as soon as it is raised to the eye
>sword whose blade goes limp and soft when drawn
>mirror anyone can see everything but themselves in
>arrows that lose all momentum on contact with a solid object
>cape that shrinks to become too small for the wearer
>pen that only writes when scribbling in the corner of a page
>dice that always land cocked
>book which rewrites itself to be relevant to but never exactly what you are searching for
>book that only shows what you're thinking
>bagpipes that make all of your movement completely silent but only while playing them
>rope that cannot be tied
>cloak that is unable to absorb and completely permeable to any liquid
>a ring that lets you wear one extra ring
>a ring that turns its wearer invisible, but only when nobody is looking
>shield that is unbreakable because it transfers all energy absorbed to the user
>gloves that turn gold into lead and gems into sand stone
>candle that goes out immedately after lighting

And the rest of the list...
>crystal ball that only shows the room you are in
>wand that destroys itself and creates a duplicate wand with a magic word
>ear muffs that freeze your ears and make every sound you hear painfully loud
>knife whose blade becomes incorporeal on contact with a solid object
>broom that leaves trail of dirt behind when sweeping
>bookmark that changes place in the book
>flute that makes no noise when played
>bag you can store one item of any size in, but it takes the size and shape of the item
>pillow that is only soft when you lay your head on it, but screams when you do so

How would the new Primaris Marines fair against the likes of the leader of the glorious and famed Second Sompany Cato Sicarius?

If he is so great then why is he 400 years old and STILL a second company captain?
>>

Because the chapter master and 1st company captain refuse to die.
>>

Cato sicarius kills them all with no challenge whatsoever so hard that the primaris gene seed is corrupted and all remaining primaris get turned into wulfen so Cato sicarius cannot take the blame for the Anal carnage of the marines because they were already corrupt.

That is a Dice Master's dice. The upper left number is the resource cost of the Unit, while the top right is the unit's Power, and the bottom is Toughness. Combat is similar to MTG, except every unit exits the field after attacking, to be cycled back through different dice piles, one that will go into your dice bag, the other into your hand next turn.

So, lore question: After reading through the Gathering Storm 2 lore section, they had a part where the Ynnari were fighting against Tzneetchian demons and Thousand Sons. What I gleamed from this is that Horror's magical flames dont really kill people, but change them into new, usually harmless forms (usually being the keyword, since it can occasionally make them tougher, like the old rules for warpflamers). In that book, they were doing stuff like transforming Swooping Hawks into Snakes, or de-aging Howling Banshees into infants.

So is that usually how Horror's and Flamers work? They transform people into random shit, and than kill them?

If that's the case, what the fuck do you do if your Space Marine lt. Gets turned into a gold fish or some shit? Stick him in a bowl, or a dreadnought? Or say your Guardsmen squad gets metallic skin that protects you? Is that a blamming? And how does this work on shit like Necrons and Tyranids?

>So is that usually how Horror's and Flamers work?
Sometimes.
Honestly sitting down and trying to figure out how daemons and chaos work, especially the God of Change is madness.
>>
>>54312912
Honestly, chaos demons are incredibly well regimented and standardized, with a defined set of limited abilities. Here is demon A, they all do X. This is demon B. They all do Y. Owing to the fact 40k is a wargame, this more or less has to be the case, but I've still always found the fact that "chaos" demons are so off the shelf hilarious.
>>
>>54312976
>Honestly, chaos demons are incredibly well regimented and standardized
Chaos is a bit of a misnomer when it comes to 40k. The gods are actually a stabilizing effect of the unreality of the warp. You still get shenanigans but if you come across a daemon of khorne you know whats about to go down.

As you say tho this mostly comes from the tabletop having to be stabilized.

How is this for a modern adventure hook: An obscure billionaire is assembling a team of investigators to finally solve the case of D.B. Cooper.

Money is no object -- he isn't after the money. What he wants is the fame that goes along with solving one of the biggest mysteries of 20th century America. Nobody cares about a billionaire who made is fortune on paperclips and cleaning products.

Fortunately for the players, the leads on the case are better in the game than they are in real life.

And their benefactor IS D.B. Cooper. He made it safely out and used the $200,000 to launch the business that made him a fortune. And now he is tired of living in obscurity. He got away with the perfect crime, and nobody knows! Now he wants the world to know before he dies of old age.

I'm drafting Hour of Devastation this weekend, and it's my first draft in almost 3 years (triple KTK was my last).

Any tips/stuff I should watch for? Good strategies?
5 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
I would highly recommend watching a few of the mtgo drafts of HoU on youtube.
But the jist I have seen, is that this draft in specific is VERY 3 drop heavy, and amonket for more aggro support.
Removal is always good but never skimp on creature support.
Do not pull a me and try to FORCE a type. Do what is open and has the support to build.
AND i CANNOT stress this enough, if you are in 2 colors, and a really good rare comes into pick, DO NOT PICK A COMMON OVER IT.
Saw a guy draft a sandwalla over kefnets last word, and then the next 3 rotations had 2 more sandwallas....
>>
Look through the spoilered set list beforehand so you can find some uncommons and commons you like and keep an eye out for them

Most of the time the rare is going to be the best card in the pack but not always, once the rares are gone the picks become more difficult and it helps if you have some choice uncommons you're looking for
>>
take this with a grain of salt but is pretty decent info
