I've been having trouble trying to come up with an answer for these RPG questions I had for a while. What makes a dungeon a dungeon? Is it the fact that it's a space filled with monsters and old treasures, or is it just the fact that it's a setting filled with adversity and rewards? Is there a certain goal all dungeons should try to achieve? How do dungeons come to be? What's their purpose?

Thanks for reminding me to catch up on Young Bride's Tale.
I think every dungeon should serve a purpose.

Dungeons, in their most honest form, are areas filled with monsters to kill, hazards to overcome, and shit to loot. That's it. Giving them a realistic or plot-important reason for existing either requires you to stray away from the platonic ideal or for you to jam in a hackneyed MMO-tier justification.
>>
>>54384646
I'm having trouble coming up with a definition. The best I can come up with is "an enclosed area filled with challenges and/or enemies, plus an end goal".

I consider many things "dungeons". Galleons and castles for example. Few of them are actually underground or are ancient.

For these, I usually use the excuse that the former empire shitted itself when they found out about dragons and built a lot of underground vaults which mostly negated the advantages and huge flying creatures.

Ive been reading about the hybrid classes in pathfinder, and many of them seem to be able to out perform their parent classes in a lot of the stuff that they're able to do.

Brawlers have higher staying power than monk, don't need to be a MAD class because brawlers cunning, more versatile because martial flexibility.

Slayers shit all over Rogue. Like seriously. In fact, they could very much replace a fighter because bonus feats and way more skills.

Bloodragers can out do barbarians because they can just take primalist archetype to get his rage powers. Now you have a barbarian with bonus feats and spells.

Investigator is also a strictly better rogue because hes got spells and studied strike. Both of which immediately make him more relevant.

Warpriest is like the cleric but better. Sure he doesn't get lvl 9 spells. But a bonus feat every 3 levels, he can still channel positive energy, can grant enhancement bonuses to his weapon, gets damage progression with the weapon,

And don't even get me started on arcanist. He can get the sorcerers bloodline, the wizards chosen schools without choosing opposition schools. Plus some of his exploits are absurd.

What do you fellers think of the hybrid classes in pathfinder?
9 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
I think that instead of making Hybrid classes, they should've just straight-up said that these new classes replace the old classes, and then given them some options to recreate the feel and style of some of the older classes.

For example the Bloodrager could've easily replaced the Barbarian by giving some basic "non-magic" bloodline(s), or archetypes that are clearly non-magical, just "extraordinary" in focus, and give it the options of the Primalist archetype as default.

Slayer is clearly meant to be an assassin type, and with very little changes, they could've just replaced the Rogue, and had a Thief archetype, or options to better fulfill the feels of a plain rogue.

Swashbucklers are shit, though.

>What do you fellers think of the hybrid classes in pathfinder?
I played a modified Holy Rager for a session run by a friend.

It was horrible.

I didn't understand anything.

This was also my only experience with Pathfinder so there is that.
>>
>>54384364
This is mostly because those core classes are shit, so any class that isn't shit will be a step up. Would you prefer having more shit classes or more good classes that makes the old shit classes look even more shit?

You also overvalue a lot of features (and things like the primalist is banned from PFS for one, and that he has a bunch of limitations on what powers he can take when), and ignore what the base classes got in the archetype department, i.e. wizard can get all of the arcanists' goodies he wants and be a better arcanist than the arcanist.

Feel free to make this post in the /pfg/ thread or the paizo forums and get schooled.

I haven't looked at it since it's first edition, did Varg finally fix/streamline all the stupid tables like the overly complex swimming?

I think his setting is interesting, I just wish it wasn't bogged down with such a crunchy system. What edition is it at now anyway?

damn nigga, anon just wanted to know about the system. No need to get out the soap-box.

Alright boys I'm planning out how I'm gonna do it. But I think I'm getting this ball rolling. I did a modern d20 campaign a while back in the corp but it ended really quickly and I still got a lot of plot and NPC's wrote up. So I'm gonna do a new campaign set quite a few years later.

A modern Zombie Campaign with variant zombies and run in a modern scale of the DND 5e system. Do you guys have any reccomendations? NPC's you want me to throw in? Ideas on how to balance and transfer over the feats, etc. I've already got classes, some equipment, and class archetypes sorted out. As well as a main plot/theme thingie.

Why do you want to use dnd for a zombie game? I think you're shooting yourself in the foot.

All flesh must be eaten, world of darkness, or even gurps 4 + gurps zombies would make it much easier for you to run a good zombie game.

Mainly because the players are really into the idea of 5e modern. Though I haven't checked into any of those systems. I did check into Call of Cthulhu, Runequest, and Delta Green.

All seem just a bit clunky. But If I was gonna go with one of those do you have a strong reccomendation? I'll read into it and if it's just too much I'll stick on what I got here.

It would be mutually agreed assimilation.

THING assimilates without plan and Flood with clear goal. So they mix and match to assimilate, infiltrate and to win war.

And just to get things going again, here's the post with the "Shugenja" that seemed well received in concept.

>>54354803
>SHUGENJA
>Role: A leader with a side of either melee striker or defender (or maybe ranged controller)
>Stats: Wisdom primary, with either Dex (Yin, defender/controller) or Strength (Yang, striker) secondaries.

>Class Features:
>Unarmored Defense: Get WIS to AC when wearing cloth armor, or something along those lines

>Flow of Yin: this class feature gives you a power that's the Shugenja's Healing Word equivalent. Minor >action, more range than HW, probably a bit weaker in exchange for being usable more frequently, and >using it gives you a Yin point. The more Yin points you have, the stronger your Yang effects.

>Surge of Yang: Gives you a power that grants an ally some kind of attack buff, I was also thinking it might >allow the target to mark an enemy or grant them temp HP or something. Gives you a Yang point. Same >as Yin, the more you have built up the stronger the opposite is.

>Harmony: When your Yin and Yang are at the same level, you gain some sort of bonus - maybe apply >your Wisdom bonus to things twice instead of once, apply both Flow of Yin and Surge of Yang at once, etc.

>Nature of Yin or Nature of Yang: Choose one, Yin is based on Dex and gives you a defender/controller >flavor, while Yang is based on Str and gives you a striker feel.

>Powers: The powers for the class would also manipulate your Yin and Yang levels. Riders would be a >major part of most powers and depend on your Nature, while their strength might be determined based on >your Yin or Yang point level.

>Basically, you have your yin and yang and raising or lowering them as you feel the need to kick ass or >help allies. You should be trying to achieve harmony most of the time without it being too easy to do so. >Your power will increase over rounds as your yin or yang build up.

If I'm going to run a pure daemons of Tzeentch army, how many pinks should I have per unit (and how many units?) if each splits to two blues and then to a pair of brimstones? This is probably my favorite part of Tzeentch other than the awesome heralds and greater daemons, as well as the right colours.

Sky fires are the OP ones.

@OP, I'd probably go with one unit of blues per unit of pinks, just because you can restore the casualties from there with pinks. You don't need big units. Brimstones are kinda useless.

Hell yes, get the books and run it. I like 1st edition, but it is just a matter of taste. It's very easy to convert to any other system that can handle modern guns and weirdo creature abilities.

It's generally made for an investigative sort of game, but the setting is very rich. Everything went wrong in the 50s, so some bits of tech are stuck at a kind of diesel level, but other elements being futuristic.

The system shares a lot of blood with Twilight 2000, so it's super easy to run a sort of Roadside Picnic type of game too, scavenging in the Demonlands.

Here's a guide to the game, if you want to read a bit more about what books are out there and the system.
