How many of you on /tg/ actually use different colored dragons with different elemental breath weapon attacks?

I don't know why, but it always seemed kind of lame to me. Red dragons breathing fire and blue dragons breathing ice or whatever makes sense, but it just feels a bit special snowflake to be honest. Why can't they all just breath fire?

Why can't they breathe something else?

And there is mythological precedent for at least some variation, dragon-like beasts have breathed poison quite often.

I can see the appeal in both, having a variety of interesting breath weapon types or just going old school firebreathing skylizards.

>Red dragons breathing fire and blue dragons breathing ice or whatever makes sense, but it just feels a bit special snowflake to be honest.
>Green iguanas living in trees and marine iguanas living on beaches or whatever makes sense, but it just feels a bit special snowflake to be honest.
They're different species of dragons, so they have different abilities.
>>
>>54613054
I do, though I usually tend to just pick out a handful of the much, much wider selection of dragons and include them in the setting.

For example, I'll make use of Green Dragons and have them be the evil ones living in forests, and have Gold or Brass dragons as fire breathing ones that live in mountains and deserts, the two coming into conflict often, but that'll be about it.

I think it works better if instead of a full spectrum, you take the handful of types you need for your game, and then have those be the only ones. If you only want fire dragons, then that's still an option to simply that, though if I were to do so I would still probably include Red Dragons, Brass Dragons, and Shadow dragons of a fire variant, mainly to offer a bit of variety to the types of draconic encounters there could be.

Technically speaking, are adventurers parasites?

>>
>>54612748
Depends how you mean "parasites". I assume economically speaking?

I mean, for the most part they're scavengers, right? Their main economic income streams are "kill thing, take stuff" or "find thing that's already dead, take stuff".

Arguably, tomb raiding like that is reinjecting 'dead' currency (i.e. stuff that's just sitting in a dungeon and not actually being used in the economy) back into circulation. Like, if King Shit of Fuck Mountain gets buried with 10,000 gold pieces, that's 10,000 gold pieces that stays out of circulation forever unless someone raids Fuck Mountain. It's like the excessive saving problem, only worse.

Blob of 20 Fulgurites in a 2k Admech army, yes/no? I fight a lot of Bangles and Marines of all stripes, seems like they'd do a decent job of protecting Big C, my Dunecrawlers and snipers from melee. Also look kinda fun. Anyone actually got to use them in games?
Was planning on running 20 and buying them a Triaros when we get those, as well as praying we get some decent gear in FoC.

My father taught me D&D and instilled a deep love in me of games of all types. I took up Magic because his then-girlfriend, now-wife, taught me to play and encouraged my interest in it (I now work in Magic as a job). I took up D&D because of his encouragement as well.

However, while working on a gaming project together, he cut me out of his life, threw me out of the family, and ordered me never to contact him again. I haven't seen him, or my 20-year younger brother, in three years. I don't even know where they live now.

So no, I don't play with my elders anymore.

Why do people believe this, /tg/? It's always struck me as strange, so many people seem to just take it as read, making the assumption without any need to state that they are or explain why it's relevant, and it's just never made sense to me.

Why would you treat the rules of the game as if they were tangible, in setting laws equivalent to the laws of physics? What system tells you this is true, and what benefit do you really get from it? All it really seems to lead to is bizarre, unintuitive mechanics glitches people attempt to exploit , or people taking a rule and applying out of context in an attempt to prove that a system is bad.

RPG rulesets are abstractions. No matter what game or rule it is, you will be able to find ways to apply it to things within the fiction of the game that don't make sense. That's also irrelevant, as rules are generally written with a specific context and use in mind. That a rule fails to properly function within its given context is worthy of criticism, but people arguing on those lines rarely ever seem to give the rule in question the benefit of the doubt in that respect.

So, /tg/, I'm not really sure what to do at this point.

A while back, I asked for advice on some things I could do to get my players to stop running generic murderhobos with no backstory or interesting characteristics at all, or at least to get them invested in their characters. One of the suggestions I received was to ask them to list something unique about their character that sets them apart from other people when they roll characters up, and give detail about it.

My players then decided to fuck with me when I asked them to do so.

The Paladin is apparently a skilled masseur, who felt he had reached the pinnacle of mundane skill, and lied his way into becoming a paladin in order to learn Lay On Hands and other holy themed abilities, to "reach a divine level of massage expertise". He later found out that in order to keep these abilities and over time learn how best to apply them in a massage, he had to act like a real paladin and avoid falling.

The Bard is actually a virgin, who is saving his first time for the woman he loves, after marriage, for the purpose of procreation. Because in comparison most bards' lifestyles are heinous displays of debauchery, he has been loudly bragging about his supposed sexual exploits, which due to rumors being unreliable, has snowballed (heh) into most bards in the world actually believing that he is incredible in bed.

The Wizard is the most normal of the bunch, having lived in a tower learning magic from an ancient as fuck wizard all of his life, eating the bland and unappetizing products of Create Food and Water that showed up daily from an unknown source, and as a result sees absolutely everything as new and exciting, as well as being horrible socially stunted. The player assured me that he won't take up too much time on the wizard getting distracted staring at a loaf of bread or something equally inane.

Lastly, the Ranger. The ranger isn't elf like in the original draft, but is actually a human and receives the appropriate modifiers. He's a slavic man from modern times who happened to be born with pointed ears, who slipped between dimensions and landed in the D&D world while hunting with modern bow and arrow. He had drawn the bow beforehand and let go from the shock of his surroundings suddenly changing, and the arrow shot into the neck of an assassin who was about to kill a wood elf chieftain. The wood elves assumed that the slav was an elf, and that his unique arrival and his complex-looking bow was proof that he was the one who would bring the elves into a new age of prosperity. He has since been pretending to be the legendary elven savior in front of them because he's terrified that everything in this new world would kill him the moment he turns his back, and he doesn't want to give them an excuse to do so.

So, what was originally supposed to give me normal-ish adventurers with actual personalities has resulted in me running a campaign for a masseuse with literally healing hands, a bard who is prepared to defend his virginity from an endless barrage of sluts, an autistic wizard that is astounded by everything, and a slavic not-elf.

Also, my original campaign is now out the window, because even if I stretch the limits of credulity, there is no way that these characters would be remotely interested in geopolitical disputes between different factions of dragons, and their philosophies on the treatment of their unfortunate humanoid "subjects". With Murderhobos I could just shrug and send them off to kill dragons until there was no one left to have political disputes with, but I probably have to start from scratch on this one.

tl;dr Elf slav, what do?

It sounds like your players want a light hearted adventure. I know you want things to be serious, so try and meet them halfway. Put them on adventures where they'll get some sort of a personality story benefit, like a bunch of one shot stories and then ease them into the campaign once they are invested enough in the story.
Allow the characters to be a little bit wacky and play to that - these guys seem like they could become reluctant heroes instead of murderhobos.
So it is an improvement.

So /tg/ you guys have helped me out in the past and I'm hoping you can help me again. I am going to start a questline that involves undead and a cave, super simple right? Well, this is going to be a long ass dungeon crawl filled with undead horrors and I want to immerse my players as well as fill them with a sense of dread and impending doom. They think a lich dwells in the cave they enter, but in reality it's just what's left of his personal undead bodyguard's tomb. Problem is, my players really know their shit and are good at prioritizing targets and hit like trucks even though they aren't even lvl 10 yet. I'm just a fledgling DM and I want to give them a real challenge, got any ideas for encounters?

How about you make the danger of the tomb something that cannot be killed?

It's said that many liches used that tomb as a base because the tomb offers a wealth of necromantic power and knowledge. But actually it has never been used by liches. Only by necromancers. They never had a chance to make it to lichhood, you see.

This tomb is pure evil. Actual pure evil. Far beyond the kind of selfish desire or hate that a human is capable of. This is the kind of evil that is truly unkillable except for the complete obliteration of continents and mountains. Whatever goes through those doors will suffer. And the deeper you go, the more you suffer. And when you've suffered enough, the tomb gives you two doors more. One brings you back to the surface, to tell all about the suffering you had to endure in the Lair of the Lich, and that the Lich surely must lurk deep down there, spreading its evil on a hoard of magical artefacts and gold. The other door leads to your inevitable demise. Who knows how many necromancers, paladins, tomb raiders and adventurers are bound down there in unlife, to suffer until the end of times?
