>Play 5e
>Party almost TPKs, fail on death saving throws
>Start rolling for a new character, want something that I haven't done before
>DM suggests I play Oathbreaker Paladin

Class features and oath spells seem cool, but I'm more worried about how to play this guy. Specifically, I've never played an evil character before and would rather avoid being That Guy and playing Coldsteel the Paladin. We've had parties representing all points of the alignment spectrum before, so party synergy isn't the problem. I just don't want people rolling their eyes every time I do something.

tl;dr how do I evil and not be shit at it?

Also post your dark Knights, please.

>tl;dr how do I evil and not be shit at it?
Step one: Have a clear motive.
Choose one particular thing that your evil character will do anything for. Power, revenge, etc. If it's on the line, take the most brutally efficient method available. If it's not, be a vaguely decent person.
If you have an actual reason, your character comes off as much more human and less "kicks pigs for fun".

Step two: Never screw the party.
Just don't. Ever.

That's it, it's that simple.
>>
>>54627972
Play them as someone who simply wasn't as skilled at the whole Paladin thing. They tried hard, but they lost against evil more than they one.

So they broke their Oath, and started fighting dirty. Still working against Evil, but not able to follow a code.

Works better if there's some sort of neutral god of death in the setting who can be granting the powers, possibly as a favor for him slaying a necromancer who was working against their followers.

You could probably get away with him being neutral or chaotic neutral, depending on how much he dislikes honor and rules. The key thing though is that he still shouldn't be murdering people for no good reason. Just because he broke some of the rules doesn't mean he became a sociopath. He'll do it if it comes down to the wire, but torturing a random civilian for information is still something he wouldn't approve of

Our party is currently doing missions for an army at war with another nation. I was thinking about having my character possibly be a soldier in the ranks, if not a guard for the priesthood therein. With what you suggested, maybe I could play up the nationalism with my character and work from there?

DM wants to keep Oathbreakers restricted to being evil. It's a nice thought, but something I can't technically work with here.

The god of time has always existed, and the space around him warped and ebbed until new gods were formed in his wake. First the god of earth, who created vast planets, but cherished earth most of all. Then the god of sea, who coated the planets with water and put water in the skys.

Next came the god of wind and fire, who brought life to the otherwise barren planet. Then came the god of Love, Harvest, and property who made the new life on earth flourish.

Finally came the idiot god of cold. Taking the form of a small lizard, when his tail falls off, winter begins. When it regrows, winter ends. It survives, immortal but mindless.

Each took forms they found suitable, then let life on earth do as it would, hardly ever intervening directly. Unfortunately, their mere presence causes ripples in reality. This leads to magic, unusual effects, and sometimes even madness.

Here's the creation myth for the weird wild-west-meets-zombie-fantasy setting I've been working on for a few years. I enjoy it overmuch.

>In the beginning, there was ONE, and ONE was.
>But of the many things that it was, ONE was alone.
>So ONE looked into itself and saw potential and possibility. But possibility could not occur with out sacrifice.
>So ONE killed itself, and in so made the world.
>From its bones came the White God, Ramatra Singh, who was the Mountains and the Firmament and the Bones of the World, the Ivory Throne from which all kings sat. To the nascent races of man it brought Law and Justice and knowledge of Defeat.
>From its blood came the Red God, Kauvra'Sott, the Wolf of Old Autumn and the Beat of the Heart, the Iron King that rules over the nature of men. To the nascent races of men he brought Hunger and Conquest and knowledge of Victory.
>From its blight, the toxic humors that suffused it came the Black God, Nag Shol Lun, the Swarm Unending and source of all Sickness and Malady, the Ebony Crown that ate at the brow of all kings. To the nascent races of men it gave Poison and Ambition and the knowledge of Hardship.
>From the blaze of its soul came the Blue God, Tvenash Set, the Sky Above and Gyre of the Stars, the Azure Scepter to which all kings draw dreams from. To the nascent races of men they gave History and Artistry and knowledge of Hope.
>From the brume that remained came the Grey God, Olakura, the Procession of Moments and Source of Division, the Ashen Blade that all kings held in war. To the nascent races of man she gave Grudges and Time and knowledge of Fate.
>And when all the gods were gone and the world was made, all that remained of the origin of everything was a shadow, called NONE, who looked on.
>And so it is.

Description: 「Papa Was a Rolling Stone」 appears as a vaguely mechanical humanoid, it wears a light red butlers jacket and is generally decorated with light blue circles.

「Papa Was a Rolling Stone」 has the ability to convert one form of energy to another, turning the kinetic energy of a punch into heat or the potential energy of a ball on a shelf into kinetic, launching it off the shelf and probably a whole hell of a lot of other stuff im not Araki enough to think of(Potential A). It is able to do this within a range of 3m(hence range of D).

So, codes of ethics/conduct.

I'm working on a post apocalyptic home brew where the players are roving enforcers trying to prevent what little is left of society from sliding into chaos and I need a code or set of laws that they need to enforce, nothing too complicated and something with a degree of grey area.

Does anyone have any particularly good ones their characters follow or they've used in their games?

It helps to put this into context. Its a 3/2 haste that can be maelstrom pulse, bolt, put a lili into play, ramp, grab a bear like scooze, etc. The randomness goes out the window when 7/8 cards it can hit are cards that will only be irrelevant when you are already way ahead. The worst that will happen is it hits IoK/TS when your opponent doesnt have any cards in hand.

Good. The more Magic the Gathering players who kill each other over their stupid card game, the better. It's not like most of them aren't going to die in 5-10 years from diabetes anyway. I mean, really the only reason that Magic the Gathering players should even be allowed to live at all, is because they basically singlehandedly support the local game stores. Hordes of 13-year-old fucks with their mom's credit cards, and 23-year-old fucks with their mom's credit cards, are the only thing standing between brick and mortar and fucking oblivion. So we have to suffer through 40 or so of these fat bearded pricks taking up table space every Friday, and if it's a store that has an interest in making money, they've got a Magic event going pretty much every fucking night. So you have to deal with grown men shouting "judge! judge!" because these faggots invest so much money into this game that they can't even play it in a friendly manner. Hell, "stabbing over MtG" shouldn't sound any different than "stabbing over poker game" because if these fuckers want return on investment they have to go 4-0 every fucking Friday and then maybe, just maybe they can recoup some of the 500 dollars they spent on a stack of cardboard that becomes worthless every six months (used to be longer before Wizards changed Standard to maximum kike overdrive mode). I honestly feel sorry for Magic the Gathering players. They've been playing the game so long that it's become their only metric for enjoyment and recreation. Magic players are fucking abominably boring people, they play all sorts of "competitive" shit that involves no actual skill (like DOTA or League of Legends) then go and netdeck Magic the Gathering decks three days after the new set comes out that some nerd thinktank has been theorycrafting and playtesting with proxies since the first spoilers came out, just so they can beat a 13 year old and stroke their limp peener and regain some shred of self-esteem from living in their mom's basement.

In my settings, I like the vast majority of mutants to be pitiable and malformed. Most of the time mutation results in deformed limbs or organs, extra flesh, or other horrific effects. The majority of mutants die either directly or indirectly from their mutation, whether they succumb to their own deformity or are picked off by some more dangerous monster. However, the mutants that do survive the rigors of the wild are truly creatures to be feared.

Mutations are mostly benign, if you live past infancy. They tend to create their own subculture, which might eventually get appropriated by hipsters trying to be counterculture.

Some rare few have weird powers. Even less common are those who have powers but still look human or mostly human. They tend to be "heroes" or community organizers/activists. It's unknown how many people are mutants, without any clear visible mutations, or powers since it's unlikely to come up outside of a thorough medical examination.

It's unkown why most mutants aren't sterile, when logically they should be.

I've been wanting to get into savage worlds for savage RIFTS

What books do I need to get?

What books should I get?
99 posts and 10 images submitted.
>>
>>54625084
You need the Savage Worlds Deluxe corebook and the Savage Rifts Tomorrow Legion Player's Guide. If you want to run Savage Rifts, you'll also need to pick up the Savage Rifts Game Master's Handbook and Savage Foes of North America. The Savage Worlds Science Fiction Companion is useful but not necessary, as is the classic Rifts corebook, which has a ton of useful lore in it.
>>
I really would not suggest playing Savage Worlds. It is a badly designed system with terrible meta-mechanics that encourage not only metagaming but ending session early, it also makes it near impossible for characters to fail at anything. The gun mechanic are broken, and literally do not make sense. The only thing it is good for is being a miniatures wargame, and it even sucks at most of that. Exploding dice make stupid shit happen constantly, the damage is way overkill for 90% of the threats allowing characters to one-shot massive creatures with tiny weapons. On the other end, characters literally cannot fail, because they have three bennies per session which allow them to reroll whatever the fuck they want (not damage rolls, to be fair, but still). And the GM is told he is a piece of shit if he doesn't hand out more bennies for "good roleplaying" (in other words, stupid nat20-lolz bullshit). Also the characters get to roll a wild die with their normal roll and take the wild die if it is higher, thus making them even less likely to fail at anything. Not to mention the cancer of the bennies being basically a safe-space for retarded character actions, CAN and WILL spread to other RPGs you play with this group. Just count down the sessions until your character asks during D&D after failing a roll "can I have a bennie"? No, get fucked faggot. Failure is an important part of RPGs and Savage Worlds throws that shit out the window.
>>
>>54629507
I wish. In my Deadlands campaign we all constantly fuck each other over with our bennies and it's hilarious. Savage Worlds is like GURPS and FATE in that you as the players and GM have to do a little work to make sure everything is nice and balanced how you want. For example, we added a stat called Dodge that is the ranged version of Parry and works off Acrobatics. Between that and being smart enough to use things like cover the game is fine.

It sounds like you are looking for something more gritty and down to Earth, which is fine, but SW is about crazy pulp and high action. It's a power fantasy game. If you are looking for something grittier though, might I suggest the Fantasy Flights Warhammer RPG line? Dark Heresy is my favorite, but any of them could be reskinned to fit the tone you are looking for.

Also I guess they'd be less useful than bicycles as we know them, since don't most fantasy settings not really know about rubber?
