I'm looking to get back into AoS, and I'm trying to decide on an army. I'm not super specific on who I want. My only criteria are:

>Part of the order alliance
I think they have the coolest looking armies, and since they're all able to join together, that's just more of a plus.

>Super colorful, or potential to be colorful (more in a lots of colors way rather than few bright ones)
I'm buying the army painter paint set, and one of the biggest cons of those is that you'll only use a select few of the colors, so I want to use as many as I can.

>Not super picky on lore, just something that would be easy to work with.
I'm super big on the lore of Warhammer, and I feel dirty playing non lore compatible armies.

Keep in mind, none of these are set in stone, so if you want to pitch me a different army, go for it. All are welcome.

There was that time we dealt with Juiblex, Orcus, Zuggtmoy, Grazz't all fighting each other in a heavily homebrewed out of the abyss when we were all level 9, that was fun
>>
>>54831830
Well I'm running Storm King's Thunder and had a party of 3 Level 5 PCs fight three Frost Giants and two Winter Wolves. I thought it was going to be a TPK, pretty sure they only survived because the Bard used Tasha's Hideous Laughter and blocked the gates of the city with the giant leaders' hysterical flailing body.

The reason I buy a game system is so I don't have to make and balance my own.

IF fireball did "whatever your dm feels like it"d6 people would flip. I can't believe you are defending this level of "whatever, just let the dm make the rules" game design.
>>
Some of the guns maybe. And some of the melee weapons, but not EAC/KAC. I need to look at more of the effects, figure out currency conversion, etc.

How could religions evolve in a sci-fi setting?
Like 200 or 300 years in the future and we are in space with FTL?
What would be a realistic distribution of religions, The Big Three against the others, old religions vs new ones and religious vs unreligious?
I don't want to be biased in anyway, so no "everyone is an atheist now" nor a "everyone is religious because not being religious was just a phase".

Do you have any fun ideas on the subject?

>200 years down the road

Christianity, Islam, Secular is the big things you should consider as definitely existing.

I don't see a pantheistic or pseudo-Buddhist religion taking on, but I do see tons of 'secular' people who are actually various types of mystical pagans.

Religion as a commodity. Faiths that adapt to society, instead of the other way around. The importance of feeling, experience, and 'spirituality' over hard doctrine and practice. That will describe the religious practices of people in the 2200s, along with the more traditional monotheists and the blatant agnostics/atheists.

Oh and if we encounter aliens, expect tons of converts to THEIR faiths just because its hip to do so.
>>
Religions exist, but in significantly different forms. 21st century versions of most religions are radically different from their original forms. Perhaps you could have "reformists" who seek to adapt the religions to whatever futuretech you add in, and "traditionalists" who cling onto 21st century surface-level interpretations. Chick Tracts could be treated as ancient holy relics, for example. Depending on if you want to keep things lighthearted, or play things more seriously, there are a few ways you could go from there. Transhumanism would likely evolve into a major religion by that point, so consider that as well.
>>
in my opinion there would be a pluralism of different religions, some old and some new as well as one or two rather cultish 'big' religions that manage to propagate themselves through brainwashing-like tactics and having cultish behaviour written into the tenets

So how does the Imperium deal with the problem of 500 trillion humans feeding the chaos gods on an hourly basis?

Wouldn't it be beneficial for them to implement a non religious philosophy of moderation and emotional control like low grade Buddhism?
Has anyone in the inquisition even thought to try this?
Wouldn't that be far more effective than sending troops to bleed on battlefields? Best case scenario you feed Khorne by winning.

Why doesn't the Imperium encourage its citizens to indulge in moderation so that they are not tempted by the extremes of HERESY?

Chaos is the inevitable winner everything sucks. Why is this a bad thing?
73 posts and 13 images submitted.
>>
Because the fun of grimdark is to have potential hope no matter how dark things get, even if that hope in of itself is grim. Any faction instantly winning no matter what is stupid.
>>
What >>54830949 said, plus modern Chaos is just boring. It's inevitable victory is just part of that. Divorcing it from mortal influence and making it timeless, all powerful (i.e. is the cause of basically everything, Khorne could kill everything if he wanted to, etc etc), and completely devoid of any nuance make it a dull wankfest

Why the fuck do the Craftworld Eldar even TOLERATE the Dark Eldar? The Dark Eldar, through their (degenerate orgies/murderfuck parties/??????) strengthen Slaanesh. They don't do anything productive to help the Eldar regain their status as "master race" or even, y'know, try to find a long-term solution to the little Slaaneshi problem. They even take Craftworld and Exodite Eldar as slaves! Why the hasn't any of the Craftworlds tried to do anything to curb their power?

Thank you

The same reason why the Imperium and the Tau haven't tried to get rid of them. While them are incredibly annoying, they aren't actually big enough threats to be worth the fight, at least not at the moment.
>>
>>54830852

Unlike Tau, getting rid of DE would be extremely difficult and not worth the effort required when considering how insignificant threat they are in grand scale of things
>>
>>54830825
Because the Dark Eldar are far more numerous and powerful than the Craftworld Eldar.

depends on what fantasy tools are available. if you have functional miracle working priests, bury everyone on consecrated ground.

otherwise just have a dedicated corps of undead slaying badass motherfuckers.

Have you ever ran/played in a pirate campaign?
Any ideas on how one would run one?
19 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
Only in the sense I've played Rogue Trader. It's not a bad way to run one, but it obviously has the limitation of being in the 40k universe
>>
Depends on if your players are going to be good pirates or bad pirates.

Bad pirates is simpler. Have rival pirates on the seas, plenty of towns and empires to steal from, and all that good sea thieving craziness.

Good pirates is a little more complex. You need to make sure the people they're stealing from and fighting are worse than the players are, and make them feel like robin hoods of the sea. An evil empire or sea monsters ruling the waves, that sort of thing.

Either way, balance ship combat, on land/on boat combat, and lots of downtime between conflicts to get the players attached to each other and their crew.

Lexicanum was hacked again.

what would happen if they did delete all the domains? would that effectively make it impossible to use the site or what?
>>
>>54829667
May not be the Lexicanum specifically. I guess the wiki hosts any number of sites. Needless to say, OP pic is rather apropos.

Anyway, it all depends on how well the backups are situated. With decent backups it don't matter, albeit backups don't fix the underlying problem.

If the hackers got access to the backup storage system ... game over.

Lexicanum's probably held offsite backups so they'll be OK.

Were a fun ending to a session of idle browsing tho'. First I'm tooling along to The Emperor's lore, next moment I'm seeing 1990s BBS screenage again ...
