Alternatively, you can cut various types of troll and graft them on each other. Mountain troll with Swamp troll's arm for that unexpected Toxic attack, etc.

Yeah, they're pretty good for clearing objectives and harassing weaker units. 1 is usually not enough and 3 feels like too much. I think 2 should be in every DG army.

Exalted, because I'm really fond of the setting, and because any game that lets you play a legendary hero whose hotel-managing skills will be spoken of in legend for millenia to come is the kind of game I want to play.

Ars Magica, because it's a game about playing academic wizards trying to understand magic and push the boundaries of what magic can do, and the rules-heaviness actually captures the studious, intellectual approach of the characters.

I don't know if you guys qualify GURPS as rules-heavy, but it is the most fun system i know. That feeling you get before a gunfight or when some shit goes down is so precious. Am i gonna die or end up crippled? Will our planned tactics work out? Will i take a warhammer to the groin again etc.

Legends of the Wulin, because it is utterly unique.

It's a busted game, released too early with awful editing and the more I delve into it the more problems I find. But fuck if there isn't anything else like it. A crunchy yet narrative driven game with an abstract yet enjoyable combat system, putting conflict and battle at the center of storytelling? A rules heavy narrativist game seems like a contradiction in terms, but after having tasted it I want more, and there aren't any systems out there which are able to scratch the same itch. Not yet, anyway.

Indexes are temporary rules, Codexes are the complete ones. Indexes are there to tide you over so you can use your army in the interim until your Codex comes out.

Indexes are rulebooks for groups of armies (Imperium and Chaos are self-explanatory, Xenos 1 is Eldar of all kinds and Necrons, and Xenos 2 is Tau, Orc, Tyranid, and Genestealer). Pick up or download from the mega on /40kg/ the Index that your faction of choice is in. Codexes are specialized rulebooks for individual factions. Currently, 8th edition has very few, so unless you want to play some flavor of Space Marine, you'll have to wait for that. You can play with just the core rules and your index, though.

if you want to play a team that already has a codex (space marines, chaos space marines and grey knights(?)) just get the codex and nothing else. All the other teams currently don't have a codex, so instead you get the index which is much less team specific, but will hold you over until your teams codex does get released.

Are you running historical fantasy, chinese legendary high fantasy, 1920's "gangster in Shanghai" criminal game, cyberpunk, etc?

You should read how the feudal system came to happen, how it did evolve and why it was phased in favor of mercantilism first and capitalism later

I'm pretty sure the whole "mind-wiped or executed" thing only applies to [spoilers]most[/spoilers] Guardsmen and Civilians. Other Space Marines and Sisters seem to exempt from it.

first of all good luck trying, the custodes answer only to the emperor

second of all, the custodes must be well versed in all knowledge of the day to properly protect the emperor, so the custodes would "know too much" just by existing

third, custodes have the final say on all matters within the imperial palace, above the inquisitors or high lords, so they can just crumple paper on their phone and claim interference and agree to meet in their official meeting room on terra

They're probably not strong enough (bar Ogryns).
CERTAINLY not tough enough (bar Ogryns).
Don't heal nearly fast enough.
Will not survive Ork surgery if they're critically wounded.
Cannot generate the currency themselves.
Cannot contribute to the WAAAAGH field.
Cannot make their weapons work properly.
Possibly won't get enough nutrients from Ork food.

You can talk a lot of shit about how tough you are, but joining an Ork Warband involves a lot more stuff than being able to beat an Ork into submission with your bare hands.

I mean, they might be able to serve in some other respect, but then you're not really a part of the warband, are you?

I'd agree it would likely end with dying of either malnutrition or exhaustion (and eventually botched medical procedure in the case they actually bother to care) if they're lucky enough to not have some ork weapon blow up in their face when they're using it. Unless that person has something else keeping them alive anyway like a medical/food stash or psychic powers that are bizarrely suited to living with orks
