Hey /tg/
Was dicking about in /wbg/ and got to thinking - anyone here like to use Theocracies in their setting? Have any cool traits or unique takes on the concept to share? I'll start.
>have coastal merchant city run by clerics
>city is stupidly rich off of dyes, gold, pearls, all sorts of trade goods
>the priests are kind of sketchy, yet affable and welcoming
>they're mostly hands off, leave the governing to bureaucrats
>players find out they secretly have rituals every month where toss people off a cliff outside of town to appease some primitive sea-dwelling god
>players investigate
>priests believe the sea god is the source of their wealth & fortune
>they decide said sea god is a crock of shit since conveniently all the sacrificial 'volunteers' are political enemies of the clerics
>players lead a revolution against the clerics, sacrifices are stopped
>people proclaim theme heroes, give them rich estates outside of the city
>months pass
>trade goods drying up
>pearls are gone
>fishnets are always empty
>constant storms fuck up the crops
>people go at each other's throats over the cause
>then one of my players realizes what's up
>the clerics weren't wrong after all
I'm especially interested in non-villanous examples. Hardly ever see those.

I've been playing around a setting where the final battle between angels and demons was stoped by a tactical nuclear device.
after the rapture, the humans droped icbms and tactical nukes on the front lines of the final battle and killed most the leadership of both armies. now earth was just a bunch of demons and angels and creatures from hell and heaven and left over from the apocalypse and the humans that were left behind.

What is TALISLANTA?
An exotic post-apoc fantasy world inspired by the fantasy novels of Jack Vance, and by other sources such as H.P. Lovecraft’s The Dreamlands, Michael Moorcock’s Elric novels, and The Travels of Marco Polo.
The game is set in a strange world of twin suns and seven moons that's overflowing with exotic peoples, places, and creatures. The time is the New Age, a Renaissance-like period 600 years after The Great Disaster, a cataclysm that marked the fall of the Space Wizards of the Archaen Age.
Talislanta has seas of glass, phytomantic bird-people, tattooed clone warriors, transmutation wizards who use quintessence to change storms into crystals, sindarans with two brains, warring cultists who have taken over entire nations, elemental demons, ice schooners running on glaciers, windships manned by astromancers, beastmen mutants riding two-headed mini-dragons, and a whole lot more stuff that's a combo of every prog-rock album cover you've ever seen.

I'm interested in using the Mongol aesthetic for a civilization in a game being put together.
Right now I'm looking at clothing, armor, weapons, etc.

And is the show "Marco Polo" accurate with regards to Mongol costumes?
Like the helmets and swords the Khan's household guard have. Are those an accurate Mongol style? Do they have a specific Mongol name?

The problem with the Marco Polo show is that (besides just being porn) it's all about Kublai Khan. Kublai was a sinophile adopting Chinese dress, culture, language, etc. If you want classic Mongol style look up anything pertaining to Genghis, Ogedei, or Guyuk. And listen to Genghis Khan by Iron Mask.
