>DM a massive sprawling epic campaign
>Lots of political intrigue, economic problems, and mythical monsters
>Party walks through a snowy field, I roll for a random encounter and get an obscure two-headed dog monster
>Someone rolls for monster lore
>I basically just read the description, which is "their heads bark at the same time and they're born when Cerberus fucks a normal dog"
It's been years and the only thing anyone remembers from my campaign was the double-barking dogs. The others still make fuck of it.
>>54863751
Ya know, that'd look good in something like STALKER.
>>54863751
sounds like it wasn't that epic if the only memorable portion is dog fucking
>massive sprawling epic
>lots of political intrigue

What's the best system for a pirate fantasy game, /tg/?
Poison'd
>>54862149
>>54862200
That's pretty good for one-shots. I wouldn't recommend it or building an ongoing campaign.
Then again, I feel like pirates are best when they're careening towards disaster, so that kinda recommends Poison'd again.
Hope you Marinlets are ready for the Chad Insurrection: Primaris Edition
Has anyone done one of those "virgin walk/Chad stride" images for old marines/primaris marines?
>>54861758
I hope not, I still chuckle at those occasionally. I don't want /tg/ to ruin them inside of an single hour with overuse too.

Like I said, my DM doesn't get it.
He is a very creative guy, and puts a lot of time and energy into the universe, even making a wiki for the world with characters, events, historical events, factions, you name it.
But it's just not interesting.
Everything is EPIC, it's always an incredibly strong barbarian king we come across, or a demon from hell that we're fighting, the fate of the world rests on our shoulders, but there's no investment.
One reason for this is that the DM has instituted a Karma system in the world where if we've done something bad in a previous round, it will come back to haunt us. Now this does something which I find really hurts the player's experience, it makes them feel like nothing they do matters.
Example: So we came across a Barbarian Horde blocking the path of this band of Paladins we were traveling with, and we were tasked with making a peace offering to the barbarians so that there wouldn't be any trouble, but as soon as we get there, the barbarian king imprisons us, then asks us to slay a dragon for him since it wiped out his people's ancestral homeland. So there's a night of drinking and revelry, then the next morning we set out with his son to slay the dragon. Now, our party members are planning on killing this guy and high-tailing it out of there, and we try to do just that, but just as we shoot the first arrows to kill the barbarian king's son it is revealed that the entire barbarian horde had been stealthily following us, to see what we would do, as a test of loyalty.
Idk if this is the truth, but it feels like the DM just changed reality to fuck us up, how could we not notice a horde of barbarians following us? Anyways, rant over, I'm just pissed that our DM doesn't know how to make the game feel real.
>>54860220
And why the fuck would they even put us through such a stupid test of loyalty in the first place? They're barbarians, they don't care about wizards and city folk.
>>54860220
This all boils down to either "is his game good?" or "do you feel too obviously cheated?"
Since even one of these would set off the alarm bells, having both seems to be a big issue. Have you talked to other people playing to make sure you aren't the only one who feels this way? You probably don't want to look like a little bitch.
>>54860220
He's railroading you and isn't talented enough to keep you from noticing. He spent the time and effort to craft a setting and write a story and now feels entitled to force you to play out his story regardless of what you want.
That said, if you have a problem with it, talk to him or find a new GM. If everyone but the GM has a problem with it, talk to him or find a new GM. If nobody but you has a problem with it, find a new group.
Hello everyone, I need your aid, I'm playing a campaign where most of the humans are complete retards, to the point where they cannot retain information if the sentence is longer than 5 words, I want to create a character that can bypass this by doing things like awaken or teach the pelbs or increase intelligence score. level 6 what could I do?
thanks

Why hasn't any setting thought of necromancers experimenting on Elf blood and other long lived races for Immortality? Theres a lot of potential there without having to go into LIchdom, Dealings with powerful demons, or Vampirism. It would be more akin to dealing with Frakenstein's monster than anything.
>>54856742
Am I the only one who feels that these repetitive threads could be a little more enjoyable if OP framed the question in terms of "What are some cool things necromancers could do if they used the blood of long-lived species for more powerful magic" instead of starting every thread with "Why doesn't any setting have [class] not do [highly specific action]?"
>>54856813
Personally, I'd be much more invested in them to begin with if they actually had an OP that related in some way to the topic being discussed, and not just posting the same shitty anime/manga images that inevitably lead to thread derailment with "source!?" or "X is cute. CUTE!"
Would it have really been so hard to do a google search for a necromancer picture, or at least an elf that isn't part of some overrated comic series?
>>54856921
>some overrated comic series
Now you've done it.
Let's play a game.
We will try to deduce how aspects of fictional 'verses would play out in real life.
Humans are great at finding creative ways to use the tools already possessed and fiction doesn't do that justice by a longshot.
If followed through to their logical conclusions, you realise that these worlds have greater potential than shown.
For example certain systems of magic could be rigorously broken apart in order to create logical components that use mana instead of electricity. Magic computers!
Or when you can transfer your physical brain into a cyborg, you could also take someone else's brain, put it in a box that simulates a personal hell and give it a push into the blackness of space, to float..
That regenerating monster that is captured and used for food.
That portal gun that becomes a component of a perpetual motion machine and gives infinite energy.
>These are kinda lame, but you guys are smart enough to think of better ones I'm sure!
>Not using the elder wand to repair hogwarts before breaking it.
>Not using the time turner to kill voldemort.
>Not using a fucking phoenix down on Aerith
>Not jamming a brain control system into hulk
>Not making an army of Tony Stark robots
>Not wishing for more genies instead of wishes
>>54856520
>Or when you can transfer your physical brain into a cyborg, you could also take someone else's brain, put it in a box that simulates a personal hell and give it a push into the blackness of space, to float..
What's the point though? Other than some sort of silly yudkowski probability wank?
>>54858100
Space triads who use it as a punishment worse than death for breaking the code of silence.
>player asks for a fetishbait race to be in the campain world
>alright, it's in the setting
>later in the campaign
>"and so you come upon ruins of the city built long ago by extinct [fetishbait race]"
>>54856439
>"and so you come upon ruins of the city built long ago by extinct [fetishbait race]"
I mean, I played a undead kitsune who was the last of her race, so that pretty much fits with what I was going for.
>>54856439
....
Is that a magical realm invitation?
>>54856594
They were exterminated because their realm was too magical.
>>54856571
>undead kitsune
...does this really count as last if she's already past her expiration date?
> Why not literally put the party on rails and turn the dungeon into a rollercoaster that they do fights, NPC interactions, and skill challenges from as it takes them through a spooky mansion, old mine, or some kind of space mountain?
>Why not make those dungeons also be dragons?
My question is, as the party rides the tracks from the tip of the tail through the dungeon to the base of the dragon's neck for the final encounter, should they be riding a different contrived mechanism each time (a mine cart, a steam boat, an elevator) or should I give them a special dragon-riding cart that they can pool resources together to upgrade?
Should I play the rest of the world straight around the theme-lands emanating from these dragon-dungeons or should I lean into it and make shopkeepers be souvenir vendors and make pretzels cost 10 dollars?
The key of course is to get player buy in to the premise ahead of time so that they don't try jumping off the ride.
>>54856300
If you're gonna do dumb-fun, just go full on dumb-fun.
I think something like this could hold my attention for one session, but not really any more than that. Definitely make the cart upgrade-able.
>>54856423
My thought was to have one dragon-dungeon per theme land and have more ordinary style quests and encounters in each land/chapter of the game leading up to the dragon-dungeon denouement. That might help with the burnout factor.
What you want to do is design it like a mini campaign.
Make it worth their time exploring this "attraction", a really bug juicy steak of a reward like key quest info or a really powerful mcguffin, but much like Horrorland from Goosebumps or Something Wicked This Way Comes by Ray Bradbury, make the experience a hell of a lot more than what they bargained for.
Really mind-fuck them. Force them to take risks, split up, subject them to their greatest personal challenges, bring them some juicy character development and team building team work.
If you are going to do this go all in.
So I'm thinking about getting back into Tabletop Warhammer again, it's been about 5 years, maybe longer since I last played. What I'm confused by is should I go with 40k or go try out Age of Sigmar.
I also don't really know much about Age of Sigmar, is it just a hard reboot of Warhammer Fantasy or something?
How are either of these games fairing at the moment?
>>54856275
You are lying
You are lying and trying to recreate the same argument threads we had for weeks after AoS went live
I do not appreciate it sir.
>>54856275
40k just had a bunch of huge releases and a new rule set that is pretty good (in my opinion), now i dont play age of sigmar but from what ive seen its a reboot/continuation of fantasy. Theres a ton of new 40k players because of the new edition and gw has sort of focused on releasing 40k stuff for a few months because of the new edition.
>>54856310
>>54856275
PS: actual answer - Warhammer Fantasy is dead, AoS is completely different and jury is out on if/when it'll be worth a damn. Releases are going fairly slowly and they haven't been pushing it as much, I'm concerned.
On the flip side 40k is getting all new stuff, an all new edition, the plot is moving, balance is shifting... It's probably a really good time.to get into it. Just remember that GW is overpriced
How was your session this weekend Anons?
In our campaign my DM did the following:
>Sent us to some small village to clear out some bandits
>My dwarf fighter got in a relationship with the village bakers daughter
>The following day we went to a burrow where the bandits were
>We went inside and found the wounded and unable to fight
>They said that some followers of the sun god had attacked them and that they barley made it out alive
>As we preare to exit the burrow and report the location of the banits, a huge rumbling is heard
>When we get topside we see that the sun is gone and everything is on fire
So all in all, a pretty fun session

I need help brainstorming some ideas for a campaign I'm writing.
Long story short: What sort of artifacts or rituals can you think of that a demon might need to do to steal and mantle the power of a god.
>>54855054
Easy. Just kill the god.
>>54855069
That's the climax, I wanna fill the whole campaign with crap that needs to happen to make it work properly. If anyone could just take a gods power by killing it they would be taking swings at each other all the time.
