WH40k reached Dragon Ball Z level of absurd power creep
>make guys who are to space marines what space marines are to IG
why not go a step further and just have Super Marines who are as strong as Primarchs and then introduce their Primarchs?

It's not cool it's just fucking stupid and how will Chaos and xeno answer look like? Chaos Mutant Daemon Primaris Marines Marked By All Four Gods?

Ork Megablasta Git who looks like Beast clone?

What a fucking shit setting. In my headcannon nothing that doesn't exist in DOW games exists in 40k.

90% of players play marines. New edition came out. Old players can just use their existing marines models.

So how can GW make a profit?

Make a new Marines faction that you can't just paint up your existing models to be and make it more powerful than original marines.

I'd love to see an organized push back from the players with everyone just using old marines models and Primaris rules.

I don't even bother with Primaris because old Marines are performing better for me anyway.

What are some good fantasy settings, regardless of system, that aren't the standard late medieval/early renaissance era fantasy.

Tekumel is Aztec...no, that doesn't cover it.
Tekumel is inspired by ancient asian empires...no, that doesn't cover it either
Tekumel, Empire of the Petal Throne meshes weird fantasy with...nope, doesn't cover it.

Tekumel is pretty damn complex with no European influence whatsoever. Has its own constructed language. It's occasionally in print.

It looks really cool, but perhaps a little hard to relate to and thus also a little difficult to get people excited about.

Instead of getting pissed about bait threads, I figured I'd post some OC of mine I did a while back and see what you guys think.

This is a Low-Moderate Fantasy setting inspired by early Bronze-Age Greece, and this is currently all I have about it - no other lands or cities beyond what's mentioned in here - including an anachronistic reference to "Reme".

The city is the seat of the Wanax of the nearby land. The Wanax is the 'true ruler of all the lands', a mostly ceremonial claim that no Wanax has been able to claim within living memory. He rules the city and lands from the Tower of Dolphins.

The Wanax is anointed by the High Priest of the Temple of Poseidon, whose greatest (according to the city dwellers, that is) temple is here. Further tying the city to the Sea God is the name of the river and bay it is situated on, the Hippocampus River and Bay - and the walls of the city surround the Hippocampus Bridge [Okay, that's a lot of Hippos], the only large bridge across the river for many days travel upriver.

The Oroborous Wall itself has it's own legend; in ancient days of the first Wanax, a great serpent trouble the land, and the first Wanax tricked it into biting onto and swallowing it's own tail. The Gods turned it to stone afterward to keep it from trashing about, and built the three great gates and the river accesses. The first Wanax built his tower inside the strong solid stone walls.

1,2,3; the Great Gates, the Griffin, Selkie, and Dragon Gates (in clockwise order). Two trade routes meet at the city; the Selkie and Dragon gates allow the road to follow the coast, while the Griffen gate heads upriver, towards the hills and mountains.

4; The Tower of Dolphins. The God Poseidon charged the first Wanax with both the right to rule, and with the burden of leadership. "You must be as a dolphin to your people, guiding them through stormy waters." The Tower holds many secrets, even from the current Wanax, and only few of which have been penetrated. It also holds two prisons, one underground, another among the top floors of the tower.

5; The Barracks, for the troops of the city and Wanax. This is mainly for training and recruits. The Wanax's levies are composed mainly of light infantry, with a core of heavy shock infantry that are composed of the elite and nobleborn. It is a rare commoner or burgher who makes it into their ranks.

6; Archery Range. A recent construction, the current Wanax's father ordered the creation of a core of archers to assist the infantry with ranged support.

7; The Great Market. The original marketplace of the city, it is mandated by law to have no permanent structures, and no merchant may stay in the same place for more than a week. The Great Market is constantly shifting and changing.

8 Military Stables. There is no real cavalry under the Wanax, but there are always needs for mounted scouts and messengers. There has been talk of perhaps mounting infantry units to bring them to battles faster.

9 Port/Shipyard. The Port goes into Hippocampus Bay, and can construct new ships. It is the second largest shipyard known to the city, and more than fits the needs. The port itself is fairly busy with ships coming and going daily.

10 Naval Warehouses. This isn't just storage of goods, but also the workshops, taverns, alehouses, and other businesses that cater specifically to the port.

11, the Old Fort, Teumession. An older fort meant to help protect the mouth of the bay. It is currently abandoned with only a light patrol ever so often to keep it clear of bandits and wild animals. It was named after the fox that would not be caught.
>>
>>54967057
12, the new Fort, Laelops. A new fort with better command of the mouth of the bay, and is kept fully garrisoned. It is named after the hound that could catch anything.

13. The Temple of Poissidon, and if not the largest, then one of the largest to the Sea God. As this is a city on the coast and with the history of the Wanax, it is the center of the city's religious life. It is here that a new Wanax is anointed with the waters of life upon assuming the throne.

14. Crafter's Quarter. The heart of what industry in the city. Generally poorer workers are here, cheaper goods that are not quite mass produced, but close to it.

15, the Manufactorium. Seeing a great need for cloth for sails and other uses, foreigners from Reme settled in the city and built a waterwheel and magical looms powered from the water flowing through the river.

16, The Granaries. The bulk of the food stored for long periods is kept here, as well as preperation. Those employed by the city come to the Granaries for their daily allotment of bread, which is part of their pay, a concept imported long ago got from the lands of the Long River. In times of war, the armies of the Wanax are supplied from the stores in the granary, rather than depending on foraging in their own lands.

17. The Lower Quarter (It needs a better name) is were the majority of the population lives. There are a few minor markets, but otherwise it is a densely populated area.

18. The Upper Quarter (It needs a better name) is where the townhouses and minor palaces of the nobles reside. Some of the larger estates may have the servants live on-site.

19. New Trade Quarter. This is where the permanent shops and markets take place. Artisans who cater to fine crafted goods, doctors, alchemists, and other 'rich' professions make their base here.
>>
>>54967066
20. River Docks. The River Docks handle all the legal traffic along the river, of which there is quite a bit. However, the river traffic must debark at the river docks, then continue either on foot or wagon to the sea docks.

21) The Traveler's Quarter. This is where those visiting the city, or simply making a waypoint on a longer destination, would spend their time. This is where you would find the better sort of inns and taverns. This is where the majority of foreigners would be found, you also find the larger shrines and temples to other gods.

22) The Garden of Victory. The Garden of Victory is allowed access to all of the city. In it are small steles and tablets that commemorate the city's victories or major accomplishments. The latest was erected a generation ago, a small tablet in the Small Garden, describing the city's troops victorious in defense of an ally, true to their word in treaty sworn by the gods.

I'd probably let them roll a reflex save or something, to react to the amulet moving. It's still probably kill them though.
>>

Not OP, but it could be a good way to curb the chaotic idiot tendencies of specific group members in a humorous way.

I recall we had a player who would immediately touch anything he thought was cursed or trapped because he thought it would be funny and the person who was previously DMing was too much of a pussy to kill him for it. The new DM was having none of that shit. His character ate a fruit from a purple tree in the middle of a negative energy filled dungeon and immediately dissolved into ash. He spent the next hour huffing about it before making a new character.

Because they're not always used for evil purposes and may sometimes lead to a morally better solution than the alternatives, ex. murderhoboing everything in sight.

Is it evil to take someone by the hand and tug them? Denial of choice isn't Evil, though it can easily be turned to malign purposes. Forcing someone to behave in a Good manner is intrinsically Good.

For fucks sake just end it already

The series should have just consisted of 6-8 large 1000+ page books that follow a coherent story line.

Instead you've got a handful of writers purposefully dragging it out because they know they cant write for shit in any other setting or come up with their own.

Would the Imperium of Man survive if the Primarchs and Space Marines never existed?

The way I see it, while they are a very powerful force for humanity, they also cause a lot of problems for humanity as well, with the Horus Heresy probably being the biggest thing they were involved with.
28 posts and 3 images submitted.
>>
IMO I'd say the Imperium would be stronger without them. In the sense that without Horus the emperor would still be alive and active.

Now the expansion speed would be barely a fraction of what it currently is and I'd imagine xenos empires would be a major threat (think the Tau, but thousands of them) but the lack of an organized force of magical supersoldiers from hell bent on destroying mankind would kind of balance that out.

Seriously, if the IG and the tempestus scions got all the resources that normally go to SM chapters they'd be far more competent. Vulnerable to chaos corruption, though.
>>
>>54963388
Caveat: the Imperium would probably be less than half the current size.

Personally I think that would be better for humanity. It's not like they're short on manpower or space.

Also without a dedicated xenocidal Ethnic Cleansing Inc. force like the SM legions humanity might actually be able to make lasting alliances with xenos that are extinct in the canon timeline.
