Hello /tg/, this is my first time making a character art thread - so please tell me if I make a fuck up. I appreciate it.
I'm currently looking for modern characters that work well in a city or town setting, futuristic is fine too so long as it seem militaristic. Age doesn't matter. I will be posting my own stuff, what is basically the most usable in my folders.

Humans armed with human scale projectile or energy weapon are inefficient. Instead one should build small drones (10cm across or less), each equipped with a small explosive rocket launcher, in large quantities (as well as support vehicles for said drones) able to communicate via tight-beam laser. Said drones can lie in ambush and then fly out to engage targets. Humans with assault rifles will have a hard time targeting a dozen fast moving small targets while the drones can hide and move to ambush. The Drones can also be modified to incapacitate humans by giving them a small shaped charge and having them latch onto firearms and melt them.

If the technology exists to make these then the technology also exists to counter it. It uses laser communication then how about a smoke grenade to obscure the beans. Switch to Radio frequencies jammed. Even a short range EMP generator might be possible at this technology level. The only way this would really work is if the side using then had massive technological superiority over the other side.

Repeating the same action and expecting a different result is insanity. If it isn't helping, then try doing something different. Sticking with a setting is an option, seeing it it grows on you, but so is taking a break and seeing if that helps. You might just be burned out.

Doom Eagles.
Their entire mentality is about being the most self-suffering fatalistic grim bastards possible, but all in the name of ensuring that mortal humans don't suffer like they do.
They all see themselves as being already dead and that suffering and pain is their lot in the universe and nothing will change that, so nothing can hold them back from fighting as hard as they can to protect the innocent and the faithful from feeling their suffering.
They're one of the only chapters that manages to be both very grimdark and very sympathetic about protecting regular humans, without those two sides of their mentality conflicting.
