I stumble back in a daze" and then the DM leaping at the chance to trigger the trap. or just reminding the player of it and having the player go "well fuck. I'm kinda blind, so yeah, I step on it"

I completely forgot about Stratagems, probably because I have exactly the amount of stuff to run a full Patrol and nothing else and thus hardly ever get to use them anyway.
Picking up another SC Skits box and probably some Archmagos parts soon so I can run a proper Battalion.

Arthas literally had the chance to subvert an entire Legion Invasion plan to work against them, the he shot himself in the foot by actually killing off the fucking person who put it all in motion and his years of planning, and for extra edge, killed his humanity off in his mindscape, completely ruining the merging process, coming out of it unable to fucking control his undead and armies, who I might note, aren't really fucking undead, because they actually still feel and are aware of what they do, being literally the biggest case of "undead-like" specimens ever in fiction with Arthas getting stopped by environmental hazards, and a plague that affects his primo-preserved !notundead, and all his Death Knights betraying him.

The only thing keeping the Undead in control at that point was the crown, Stupid Ex-paladin Death Knight fucking killed off his Epic-level necromancer.

Fuck him, the sacrifices might have not all been squandered if not for that. There is only the Lich King? Bullshit, it was all Arthas all the way through.

To add insult to injury, he even fucking did the Tore out his heart cheese, which had already happened in the mindscape, so you've really got to be wondering if that entire subplot didn't get lost in translation because they couldn't fucking categorize how Arthas had his fucking Goddanmed LICH PRONOUNS checked.

Can anyone in this thread tell me when Archaon's backstory was first established? I started getting interested in Warhammer in the late 90's/early 2000's, and I had the chaos army book from the time when the really B.A. model of him on Dorgar came out. The only thing I really recall it explaining about Archaon was that he was the baddest chaos dude ever, and that he had finally acquired all the magical shit he needed to mess everyone up. Also, the survivors of his first warband, The Swords of Chaos, were still in his army as a small elite unit. Because Archaon is a bro and he doesn't forget who helped him get to the top.
My headcanon was always that Archaon was just a particularly successful Chaos lord. His philosophy wouldn't be too different from most of the Norscans. He's not a fallen hero who lost his way, but a great leader and a messiah to the forces of darkness.

In playtesting they had the fighter charge and attack, they had the rogue flank and sneak attack, they had the Cleric do NOTHING but heal and they had the wizard hang in the back and use mostly evocation spells.

They had the enemies attack the fighter and maybe the cleric and ignore anyone else except on rare occasions.

In other words: they had an assumed style of play and made sure that assumed style functioned then added on a bunch of other shit to the classes they could justify that with the easiest (the casters) then didn't bother to wonder how any of this actually played when you didn't follow their specific assumed mode.

First they made a game with poor balance decisions.

Then they tried to rebalance things by adding more content. Unfortunately, they created such a rush of content that

A) "Balance" is largely dictated by which splats a given group plays with, and thus you have very little uniformity between games
B) It creates so much crap that the GM rarely have the time or energy to integrate all of it, creating a chaotic mess of abilities that are poorly understood at the game table

This is why knowing your audience is important and establishing this stuff ahead of time is key. Sure, it's easy to get angry about unappreciative players, but that does nobody any good. The real lesson here is to not make assumptions that will lead to you getting hurt in future, as clearly what you expected and what your players expected from your game were completely different.

I do the same thing, man. I'm lucky enough my group actually reads it. If they don't, sucks for them because I don't remind anyone of what level they should be or what treasure they have, so if they forget they have it then it sucks to be them. I'm balancing the game to the level they should be at, and if they don't remember to level up and get smashed then they brought it on themselves.

Seriously, why would you play a stupid peasant with a stick, when you can play a literal demigod that fucks reality with his mind?
