Alright I need some help statting some homebrew items for a novice dungeon master.

I'm deployed right now, thankfully we have access to internet, and dungeons and dragons caught on to pass the time. Some of us never played before some played a bit. We aren't getting too super serious about the rules, still following them though mostly, because we have no idea what We're doing and this for fun and killing time.

Everyone was bored with the low level encounter myself and the other dm who swaps out when on mission had. So I threw a mindflayer at them with a few odds and ends to help them as well as 2 npcs. All of it ties into the sorry of course.

Somehow, they managed to go murderhobo on the thing rolling crit after crit and killed it with only two players being seriously maimed and almost dying, 1 Npc died. All in all everyone loved it though.

I wanna give them some cool magic items that level and get better with them so they don't toss 'em first chance. So I wanna know what you guys think.

Human rogue: dagger, steel stats, user becomes invisible for 30 seconds if successfully sneak attacks an enemy.

Half elf rogue: mask that they can mimic someone they've seen for 3 turns. Have to break line of sight to successfully use the disguise though.

Teifling necro: pointing bone, raise one dead enemy, same level or lower, medium or small a turn. They last for 4 turns and are at half stats, can't be raised again ever.

Celestial?human? Paladin: kill 5 undead, abyssal, demonic whatever and get a magic missle.

Aarakocra druid. Featherlight armor that negates 1 attack.

Lizardfolk ranger: prosthetic arm. Bonus action can attack with it.

Everything gets more abilities as they level up which links in with the story I had for them.

Nah, surviving npc is a powerful lizardfolk shaman, used the dead npc's body (soul bound suit of armor think full metal) with his tribal shit and magic to make some cool items.

Side note. As a new dm I found it useful to write down behaviors for the enemies to keep from taking it too easy but also not acting out of its character. Idk how common that is with dm's but it helped with the mindflayer and thralls behavior.

With the improvement in the potential for character sheets now it's pretty easy to run sessions. I am working on porting the Delta Green character sheets into Tabletop Simulator now.

You can do it, but I honestly don't see much advantage to using a text client or Roll20.

I like TTS for board games, but I've never really seen the point for RPG's. I guess if the tactile side and nice digital miniatures really matters to you, but the increased bother of it just makes me want to stick to simpler solutions for my games.

how do I keep loudmouth players from dominating playtime? A speaking stick? I'm a player with one and short of drowning him out there's practically no way to get this guy to shut it.

Make them relatable to your players, aside from the whole 'taking over the world', or whatever their evil plan is part that is.
I don't know what you currently have in mind, besides that you want to make an outcast that's sympathetic, nor do I know what your PCs are like, so I can't do much but offer vague advice.

90% of the problems in middle earth are only an issue because the valar have a "fuck you, I got mine" and refused to do anything about Morgoth until it's too late.

I don't think that Feanor went about his quest in the best way, and the kinslaying was objectively evil, but he did the right thing by trying to stop Morgoth and get the Silmarils back.

So yes, he did some things wrong, but he should have never had to deal with the issues he did in the first place.

I have been running plenty of one-on-one games and group games over the past few years, and there is one problem about group games that has been causing me plenty of grief and frustration: the way a group formulates plans.

Giving each player an equal say in planning and the execution of plans, be it during combat or outside of combat, is inefficient. People have to communicate (often complex) ideas to one another and respect one another's desires, and even a plan hashed out this way tends to be a disjointed "design by committee." It takes a group a painfully long time to arrive at decisions this way, and the end result is one of those "crazy and nonsensical player plans."

The best method of coming up with effective plans in an efficient time frame is to have one person, ideally a pre-appointed leader, do all the planning by themselves, and to have everyone else as merely a sounding board of ideas to be incorporated or ignored as needed. However, that leaves the players apart from the main planner feeling unengaged, because their desires count for far less.

This could be solved by having the players take turns being the "plan-maker and leader," but good luck trying to find a satisfactory way to shuffle around such a role, even among a group of close friends.

In my experience running one-on-one games and group games, the most efficiently-constructed plans are the ones crafted solely be a single player, the most effective plans are those made by a single player with the others as a sounding board... and the absolutely worst plans that take a maddeningly long time to form are those created by the group as a whole, in a way that tries to respect the desires of each player.

How can this effect be mitigated when running a group game?

Are you playing high stakes combat focused game? Nothing wrong with planing actions for combat in those and it is to be expected. Just ask them to hurry up if they went into analysis paralysis.
Out of combat, ask them to discuss plans in character, treat it like any other scene, ask questions, nudge, introduce NPCs, whatever, talking about things in character IS the game. See if your system have an argument resolving mechanic for PCs.
Talk to your players and bring this topic up, ask if they as frustrated with delays as you are? Maybe they would come out with a solution, without you doing anything.

Have players / characters capable of calling out bloody stupid plans.

Alternatively, wisdom rolls or equivalent for characters to realise how and why the plans are flawed.

So, aside from destroying loot what are some good ways to reliably shred an enemies AC?

So far I've got the feint line of feats, and being an unchained rogue... that's about it. Anything else has times where it basically just falls apart completely. (Trip against flying enemies/multi-legged enemies, as an example.)

So what do you guys think? (Also, no magic.)

ITT: Each color has a facet about them that fits human personality. But can we take those aspects and fit them into RPG Classes or how they fit in Real World jobs?

We already know Green would have Rangers and Scouts, Blue would have Sorcerers and Wizards, but looking at the color combinations is interesting.

I'd say only a small number of classes are only available/likely for people of one color. Druid almost always being green, maybe, or monks and paladins almost always being white. But there are certainly classes you couldn't reasonably pigeonhole into a single color: Magic has had Soldiers and Warriors in every color, after all, so it seems unlikely for fighters, and both Wizards and Rogues are frequently either black or blue. I'd think color in RPG classes would be more a combination of the character's motivations and tendency in ability choices.

Fighter gets the best goddam sword in the world whether it be through blessings, upgrades or given to them. The exact why does not matter just that he gets the best slashy thing the world has ever seen.

Wizard gets nothing because they are already busted and ubjectivly more powerful then other classes.

There are two clerics in the game one Tempest (level 20) the other Light. So I'd like to standardize it so they get maybe two or three domain features and then some general cleric features like how its done in the phb. Getting boons is great and all but its more of a temporary solution and they have one already from doing some crazy shit I didn't expect of them.
