Anyone else DM for themselves? I still get out all the rulebooks and minis and shit but I just play all the players and the dm myself and do all the dialogue too out loud. I don't have any friends to play with

Yes. At least if you were writing a book or play you could say you would legitimately be improving the craft by doing that shit out loud and activating the "this sounds retarded" response that doesn't like triggering in your own head or writing it out. But just playing D&D by yourself like you have schizophrenia and having all that go nowhere and do nothing is just stupid.

My little brother and sister want me to DM for them in two days. 5th edition DND. I said yes.

I have never played 5e. I have experience with 3.5 and pathfinder.

They are 14 and 13. They will have friends around that age.

What do I do? Is this feasible?

its almost exactly the same, calm down. Roll a d20 add any bonuses against a target number. It won't be that hard. Especially for level 1-3. By the time the group gets that far (if it gets that far) you will have figured out the nuances.

You'll be fine. They are very similar, especially from the DM side. Only real difference is when you qualitatively judge that circumstances make something easier, say "you get advantage on that" and when you qualitatively judge that circumstances make something make something harder say "you get disadvantage." Other than that, they are largely the same game, and experience with one will carry over from one to the other.

I need help for a homebrew world I'm running. I need to design magic classes, and am having trouble coming up with a magic class that combines the traits of 'essence' and 'energy'. Any ideas?

Why can't corpse emperor dirt bags realize that your god emperor is a racist bigot. Tzeentch sounds fine to me. His nasally voice and spastic mannerisms fit pretty well for a scheming god. Nurgles sloppy, wet gurgling is as much as I expected. I don't know about Khorn or Slaanesh though, as they do seem a little generic.

I've decided to start playing Pathfinder, and I'm going to attend my first gaming session in a few weeks.

I've played a few games of AD&D as a kid, and a little bit of 4e when it came out.

For those who know the game well, what books would I need to start with to have a decent chance of keeping up with the average player?

Looking for a couple quick answers /tg/ regarding science and stuff. In a campaign right now, and theres a small mission / task to take care of removal of a bee infestation. I don't have smokesticks or anything similar, but what I do have is a high powered speaker with variable volume and frequency. What would then be the minimum decibels I'd need to kill the bees with sound alone? Also for future development I'll be turning it into an LRAD, and was wondering exactly how much force would come out if I were able to get it to play sound at 200-300 db. Thanks /tg/

I need advice /tg/. I'm DMing a pathfinder adventure path (first time running a campaign) and for a while my party was even with the encounters but now that they're higher level they're outpacing the encounters more and more quickly. I've started taking the "boss monsters" and giving them additional turns to try and event it out and this has been working somewhat but I can't figure out how to "legitimize" this in the rules.

tl;dr: Is there a legitimate way to give monsters extra turns or alternatives to make difficult encounters?

Pathfinder is a rules nightmare. The only way to balance it is to not play.

Haste and various spells/abilities can give you an option, though remember that an extra turn allows a quicker set-up of a villain's overall battle strategy to come to fruition quicker and could potentially make the experience frustrating for the party if they haven't come to support each other well enough in their chosen skills and powers to do the same. Of course, the better option in my mind would perhaps be design some challenging but fair additional abilities for your villains that can give them a fighting chance against the party or understand what the party's effective level is and try to beef up encounters with additional monsters that would bring the CR in line with them (pro-tip, don't just stick more of the same monster in or at least have something unique going for the ones you do add besides 'generic hobgoblin'). That would be how I would balance it out as a relatively well-experienced player (roughly 7-8 years, with Pathfinder being a big part of it) and one-time GM (while I had some fun with the duties, I just didn't have the time to work everything out and wasn't enjoying myself as much).

In any case, what adventure path are you running? That might give us some ideas, plus we can give you directions to the GM threads on the official Paizo threads where they discuss issues like this and what causes them.

Carrion Crown, they ran over every encounter at the end of the first book (Splatterman, Lopper). I gave one of the mobs in the second book double turns and it lasted a little longer but still got run over.

In a future encounter I planned on giving a "boss level" monster multiple turns and gave him additional mooks to counter the sheer numbers (they have multiple pets).

We're less than a month away from Death Guard being released and we still have no clue as to exactly what this thing is. And, since nu-GW never puts things in the artwork that aren't models, this has to be SOMETHING. Everything else in the picture is very clearly a model currently sold by GW.

So what is it guys? Is it a Nurgle specific daemon engine to make up for losing the vanilla dinobots? Is it the new Beast of Nurgle? Are we really getting another kit for DG on top of everything else?

I'm having trouble trying to engage my players who haven't written a back story in the events going on in the campaign. With the few players who wrote a back story I think I'm incorporating what they gave me into the game decently. As for the others I'm completely lost. I've asked them directly and they've basically said "I'm in it for the laughs". Those players also barely roleplay.
I'm not a great writer so I don't expect for players to be engaged by just my setting and straight forward plot line. It's getting hard for me to write future events because half the party has no motivation to do anything other than "The DM put it there so it must be important/that must be where the plot is". I'm already trying to appeal to each player's personal taste by putting some goal that they personal like along the way, (one of the players like giant robots so I'm going to put a giant robot in the game that he can pilot if he fixes it up through plot progression). The only reason I don't go all out to appease the jokester players is that they seem to derive their fun from messing with the seriousness of everything and also I'm not nearly clever enough to make a joke campaign interesting for an extended period of time. What else can I do to engage players who don't seem too into it?

They want to play for laughs and not roleplay so let the players who want to roleplay, roleplay

Let they play to the sillyness. Throw in silly stuff. For example (you have robots so im guessing its at least modern) The next session makes them go to a paint factory, the silly guys get covered in paint of diffrent colors.
Bonus points if its the power ranger colors before having to fight that giant robot.

Or they have to save a princess but shes really ugly.

Or some kid gets their rare pokemon tradeing card stolen. The pcs beat down they guy who stole it then find out he has had it stolen by someone else and this happens about 4 times down the line with the thief being stronger and stronger each time.
Last that guy steals it is super strong. BBG strong. But turns out to be the kids dad who just wants to get a gift for his kid.
