How would you turn the Fate series into a board game? Is it even possible with the sheer size and the possibilites of the universe?
They made board games out of Warhammer 40K and that's universe just as big, don't see why not.
>>55040425
To an extent. I'm currently using a very butchered Wild Talents to run it, and it works fine. I added a few custom extras to represent "magical" properties, and that was it.
It works for the general gameplay, but stuff like conceptual clashes wrk like "exceptions" and need to be handled by the GM. Like, a random decisions that your "Endless flames of salem" have poor compatibillity when going against a water elemental.
My first instinct for a Fate board game would to make a sort of hidden identities game where you're looking to suss out how your opponents are, something akin to Bang or Danmaku, maybe introducing some sort of two part mechanic in working out the other players' Servant and Master. It would probably be best off as a card game, however, instead of a full board game (which would likely be far easier to produce for a fan project).
If you really wanted to make a board game, though, something sort of like Heroscape or Arena of the Planeswalkers might work, where you have a mix-and-match selection of Servants and Masters, each with their own special abilities. Of course, this makes it far trickier to handle Servants whose abilities aren't well suited to direct confrontation, and you lose a lot of the focus on the long game that many Masters play in favor of short, quick skirmishes. Still the idea could lead to a fun light wargame.

What's /tg/'s obsession with dice pools? Seems like whenever a game creator mentions they're using them for a game, this board creams itself.
Stop saying "/tg/" when you mean to say "a guy who browses /tg/."

Why the fuck did he just make every bone in his body a Vertebra.
Like, seriously
Did he change the muscle attatchments too?
Did he create discs to stop them chafing?
Because if he didn't, he won't be able to move because he won't have the muscles in the right places to stop the bones in the middle from flopping around, and he'll be in terrible pain.
And even if he did, wow now he has to spend 10x the energy for every movement, and is only slightly more flexible, but not in any directions that matter.

Guys SUper NeW tOP SECRET list OF what codices will BE released THIS YEAR
http://natfka.blogspot.ie/2017/08/list-of-codices-to-be-released-this.htmlit's just a meme list but I want to die regardless
Prove me wrong: Magic the Gathering died about 4 years ago when the player base was invaded by obnoxious numale sjw neonerds. The game was dumb-downed, art cartoon-ized, and the story made cringeworthy.
You didn't hardly see any of these fags at tournaments prior to ~RTR. It used to be grizzly-old neckbeards, high school/college neckbeards/outcasts, and clean-cut, white collar analyst types (bankers, finance, math, etc) who started playing as kids and never stopped.
Example to prove my point: Ever seen a Legacy tournament? Notice how the playerbase is much different than at your typical Type 2 FNM. The players are less obnoxious, more respectable and better players. It's because Legacy has been insulated by the numale invasion due to its high barrier to entry. But, that's what every MTG tournament looked like five years ago.
>>55037677
>The game was dumb-downed, art cartoon-ized, and the story made cringeworthy.
I literally just play this game for the jank. As long as they keep printing new cards with effects that are totally broken when paired with old forgotten cards, I'm happy.
Also, way to save a thumbnail.
>>55037677
I miss having quest threads on /tg/.
It's been shit for a while desu. I just play Force these days as the equivalent of standard is actually reasonably priced and the player base has far less annoying teenagers. I have to agree that the SJW fluff in MTG is annoying, but it is hardly the sum of the game's problems.
How do I git gud at drafting?
>>55037549
I find that it mostly comes down to practice: every drafting format is different from others, but you learn stuff that is common to all of them(i.e. usually play 17 lands, creatures should be about double your non-creature spells etc.) and came make comparison with older formats that you played.
A thing that really helped me was looking at people playing it online: I haven't watched him in a year or so because I've had to temporarily drop off Magic, but NumotTheNummy on Twitch is fairly good at drafting, does it almost all the time, and tends to explain his picks and plays, so you can understand why he does what he's doing. Watch the videos he puts on youtube and the archives on Twitch around the start of a new format: when something new is about to come out, he has played it so much that he starts going with wacky unoptimal strategies like the mono Suntail Hawk.deck
>>55037720
>he has played it
*he has played the old format, sorry
>>55037549
Use BREAD as a basic guide, also study up on pack rotations and maps. Study them a lot, because when you really git gif at it, you can look at a pack missing 2 uncommons and a common and know with a pretty good degree of certainty what the missing 3 cards are. That tells you what the people behind you are playing, and consequently what's open.
Hello, i'm mastering a game in a homebrew setting where all the animals are hybrid from the one that we have in earth. I came with the idea as a joke, and my players asked me to keep it. But know this became a pain in the ass with the statistics block and even creating new animals on the fly (they end always beeing similiar, like a wolf hyena) do you guys have any tip for me?
Steal from the last airbender
>>55037246
Have a default stat block and just attach relevant abilities. Nobody but you is actually looking at the stats
>>55037559
This. If any of your players reeee at your owlgret being an owl that you say is part egret, slap them,
I'm in an RPG rut and need something that isn't generic fantasy.
>inb4 GURPS
You want fantasy or no fantasy at all?
>>55037224
Preferably none, but I'm open to things if you can sell me on them.
Would cryptomancer count?
It's possibly the least generic fantasy.
Sell me on Mekton (or talk me out of it). I want to plan a mecha themed game for my group. We're all generally versed with anime mecha and like it to varying degrees. It's also a theme we've never really explored in our previous games.
I'm looking at Mekton as it seems to have a little bit of every thing I'd like to see in a mecha campaign. I'm concerned it might be too much for my group to learn, they're cranky and like things the way they're used to, and learning a new system is always a bit of a chore.
What i'm looking for the system to do is allow for some mecha creation/customization. Fairly simple rules, I'm not looking for mecha simulation but i'm also looking for more then narrative RPG where you add your own theme to it's base mechanics. Heroic player driven mecha combat is what i'm after.
As for style think Gundam when it's more "serous". When it treats mobile suits like mobile weapons platforms. So Kung-fu Shining Finger stuff is out. A little anime cheese is fine by me but I don't want it to feel like a Sentai Robo game.
I also dig a little cyberpunk flavoring. I'd like at least one setting to feel kind of Cyberpunk ish. Like something you'd see out of AD Police or Akira.
That said do you think Mekton the right system? There any specific setting of the various homebrews/"official" settings that I should look into? Is there another system I should look at for this kind of game?
Thanks.
TLDR; I wanna run a Gundam inspired mecha game. Is Mekton any good? is this the system I should use? Or is there another system I should look into?
>>55037052
Mekton works exceptionally well for gundam style games, it's where it shines best. But the system is heavy, especially since you want to use Zeta plus for building mechs. Actual play is simple, but it can be cheesed a little easily and a mech can rapidly become insane, it's really not the best system in the world, it's kinda bad honestly. So your mileage may vary whether or not you have fun with.
>>55037077
know any other systems that might do better? Like a general RPG system like Gurps or whatever?
>>55037161
I hear Battle Century G thrown around as a recommendation a lot. I doubt GURPS would be much better if you're worried about a very crunchy, rules heavy system. Because that's what mekton does best, nothing really compares to the level of building you can get out of it. Otherwise, you're pretty fucked in terms of mecha games to my knowledge.
Hey, /tg/. I'm DMing a game of DND 3.5 and I had a question about spell areas, specifically spheres.
A monster was surrounded by the party and one of the casters used glitterdust, which would have blasted everyone including his party. However, since it's a spherical burst, he just placed it in the air directly above the monster so only the absolute bottom of the sphere touched the monster and avoided hitting his party. Is this legit? It seems like bullshit but I can't find anything that would disallow it.
>>55037003
You're the GM, you can disallow it.
>>55037027
Naturally. I mostly allowed it at the time because they were getting slaughtered but I wanted to do further research outside of game to have a concrete stance that is hopefully backed up by more that "cuz I say so".
Why not? It's a sphere, and the monster is presumably taller than them. Rules as written. Part of being huge is that you're easier to hit with things. There's a size modifier to attacks for this reason.
Of course, it goes both ways. Maybe a tiny spellcaster can pull the same move on them!
What was the point of Centurians again?
>>55036862
an attempt was made
>>55036862
Dave Gallagher had a bunch of cool concept art for devastators in his sketchbooks, but the actual devastators just ended up being regular dudes with big guns.
So when GW decided they needed more big miniatures to sell they figured they could try to adapt some of those sketches into a new unit. The result was Centurions.
Then with the Primaris overhaul they went back to those sketches again and the result was Aggressors.
So basically it took GW at least 10 years to get those concepts right.
I kind of like them
Any ideas on how to implement monstergirls (Especially lamia, arachne and slimes) into an OSR AD&D game set in the Flanaess?
>>55036653
You kill yourself, then someone else look up some of their stats for Red Steel (2nd edition), then he kills himself. Then the last person uses his imagination and eyeballs the characterizations other have done before making some home-brew, then killing himself.
>>55036653
You don't

>>55036382
They are still stronger and faster than any DB character until Super. People in DB blow up planets using Ki blasts, but their speed and strengh isn't that great.
As for Xianxia settings, unless you are spending thousands, if not millions of years, they will be useful, since higher tiers don't go down to the lower levels.
