Game of thrones?
As for who created fire endowments, do you mean the concept or who did it first in a game? Cause the concept goes all the way back to the Old testament and God sending a Cherubim with a flaming sword to block the way to the Tree of Life.

Orks are an engineered solution to promote biodiversity and keep the galaxy 'safe' from external aliens. They are designed to maintain the status quo of the setting.
> Clearly built for war. Muscly as fuck, embedded technology, psychic prowess and rapid growth
> Looting ensures that they are never outclassed from a tech perspective. They will always have access to similar caliber weapons as their opponent.
> They instinctively scale their response to the threat. Bigger threats draw in more and more Orks until they are inevitably drowned. Smaller threats do not attract Orks because they are weedy.
> Naturally disband after successfully killing the foe and either TK themselves back to a maintainable level, or move onto the next fight.
On a similar level, there was an idea that the Tyranids are the 'final solution' of an exiled Old One that has decided an extinct universe is better than one that feeds Chaos.
>>55006592
Why does that Exorcist librarian have a palantir?
This thread is for posting enlightening tips/tactics you have picked up while DMing. This can be anything from props and random tables to fun quests and interesting roleplay situations to throw at players. I'll start with a few:
>If your players are fond of taking long rests in hostile territory, roll a d20 for every hour they sleep. On a 1, the party is attacked by a minor or moderate threat that disturbs their rest. This way their rest is disturbed by chance and not DM fiat.
>You can make plot hooks more appealing by incorporating the characters' race/backgrounds/class/etc into the hook. For example, a group of Dwarven Paladins is more likely to clear out your Bandit cave if it was instead a cave of demonic cult worshippers who have been sacrificing townsfolk. And the questgiver happens to be a young dwarf who's father was abducted.
Don't freak out if a couple of players are using cell phones/laptops/gaming devices during the game, especially large groups. It's impossible to hold everyone's attention at all times.
If everyone's doing it and it's actively affecting the game, *then* you need to have that talk with your players.
you can kill the players too not just the characters
>>55005865
As an addition to rolling a d20 during long rests, you can have an encounter happen on a 2 as well. This changes the odds of avoiding an encounter during a long rest from 66% to 43%, depending on just how hostile the environment is.
Welcome to the thread for d20 station, a rules light Space Station 13 server.
>What is Space Station 13?
It's a 2D top down atmospherics simulator with who dun it gameplay layered on top. Each crew member aboard the station has a specific job to perform, while a select few are selected to be traitors (assassin/spy/thief).
>How do I play?
You'll need to download the BYOND client. There's games other than SS13, but enter those at your own risk.
BYOND Download link: http://www.byond.com/download/
You'll also want a BYOND account, which gives you a ckey so you can save preferences and be recognized by the game. It's highly recommended to make an account if you're experiencing connection issues or don't want to be a fat tourist/starving space bum.
To connect: Open BYOND, click the gear in the upper right. Click "Open Location" and paste in the IP below.
byond://76.16.8.127:28014 OR byond://d20station.ddns.net:28014
>How do I play
Use OOC (backspace say" in the bottom, type OOC and hit enter) and ask someone for help on how to play. People will almost always help you get a grip of the game if you're polite about it, just don't reveal too much in-round information in OOC. There's also wikis dedicated to documenting the spaceman way of life, but they vary widely from server to server.
>What are the rules?
The rules are very relaxed and admins try to take a hands-off approach to administrating. Admins will generally only intervene if someone is explicitly playing to ruin the game or being a dick. Reminder to read the rules in-game.
>What map/code do you run?
We run a heavily modified Ministation map with mostly custom code. Most jobs on Ministation are merged with similar counterparts and head roles have been re-enabled.

>Are Twinblade lists just FOTM?
I think yes to an extent, people seem to really enjoy brewing with the card, so it seems to go in and out of fashion. I've seen all sorts of crazy ST stuff, from Stoneblade to Standstill builds.
>Imp Painter is back?!
That's great news that the deck might still be viable, I've always thought it was a one of the coolest/most unique decks in the format. Almost makes we want to try and dig up the last recruiter I need to give it a go.

>do a week's worth locale research through e-tourism to emulate that Araki tourist hype

>everyone agrees, tells me they're good for that, no qualms
>one player has a good Stand, two have iffy concepts that seem a little off (one's sound-based and didn't try to do anything Echoes did), all three are good sports during game and do plenty
>3 sessions in, one player admits he's never read JoJo's before and just watched the anime a little and was turned off by it
>other two players agree, the most experienced one only watched up to part 2 and stopped
>get butthurt enough to call the game off
am I a sperg for taking offense and not wanting to run the game any further, realizing they lack the thematic muscle to flex what I want to see?
More importantly, is this common? People joining games where they have not even the slightest idea of the source material expecting to absorb all of it in the process instead of doing homework when asked?
>>55067939
Yes, yes, and yes
if they seemed interested in the game there wasn't much of a reason to stop it
in almost every game that requires "homework," people will either not do it, do it half-assed and not remember fuck all, or that 1% of people will actually do it
this is why short setting primers are a thing, even if it does have a show
>>55067939
Yeah you sound like a pretty huge shitheel
>>55067987
so that justifies lying about it and insisting they're good for something they aren't?
i didn't ask them to drill themselves on it until they had as much of an understanding as i do, they all answered "yes" when i asked if they've read up to the most recent parts and remember most of it at least generally.
i mostly play exalted, man. i know what it's like to know fuck-all about a setting and just gun it, but this felt like I was over-catering to pretty much only myself. part of the big Mood of JoJo's writing is that bullshit one-upping that always happens.
you know what bullshit one-upping needs? a second person to bounce off of. None of them were willing to try that because they didn't see the appeal.
WHO NEEDS VALVE! WE CAN MAKE OUR OWN SETTING!
>in the year 2200 the first Generation ship reached to borders of our solar system only to discover that space, stars and all the cosmos we could see in the galaxy was actually a reflective screen that made a false image of a galaxy
Upon reaching the end of our solar system, all the lights turned on, and countless aliens applauded. Humanity had succeeded its test, and was finally ready to serve the Masters as race 47,146,062 of species creating armada.
The holographic principle is real. The universe is an empty chasm with all that exist is nothing more than an hologram projected from the surface of its edge or event horizont.

>Game goes on, plan succeeds and the meteor is diverted

>One player however thinks that I am a hack and remains sour about the ending being sort of hopeless. saying that it has no resolution and that bad endings are bad endings for a reason ("because nobody wants them")
Are Lovecraftian endings (completely hopeless in the grand scheme of things) actually fitting ever for an RPG?
>>55063885
sounds like your playgroup are pussies t b h.
>>55064274
agreed
>>55063885
The issue is that that one guy didn't want to play an eldritch Lovecraftian game. Also are previously stated is a pussie
>>55063885
I like pizza and I like donairs.
But if I order a pizza and I get a donair, I'm going to be kind of confused. I won't enjoy the donair as much.
So here's what you did. You decided to run "a game". The players wanted to run Big Damn Heroes. You wanted to run Lovecraftian Grimdarnkess.
And so you ended up running Lovecraftian Grimdarkness anyway, and ignored the noblebright stuff /your players wanted to do/.
If they'd signed up for Lovecraftian Grimdarkness and done that, sure, you'd have a point. But did you make the themes, goals, and tropes of your game clear before it started? Did the players buy in?
Because at the end of the day, everyone didn't get what they wanted. And that's dumb. Don't be dumb. Plan ahead. Talk to your players. Set tone and theme guidelines and then stick to them. Don't bait-and-switch and go from Noblebright to Grimdark (unless your players signed up for that).
If lore written for a game is too disconnected from the actual game, it is bad lore.
That's why 40k is a shining example of terrible lore, because there is no way to reconcile the lore with what takes place at the table.
>>55062585
40k lore is terrible for a million other reasons.
>>55062585
>the space marines are fighting eldar because they fucking hate eldar and that's what they do
wow so disconnected
You can say that about so many games. As a Malifaux player I can honestly say that 40K is on the fluffier side of things as far as game abstractions go. Only some historicals really close that gap significantly.
How could a polytheistic religion develop into a monotheistic religion?
>>55062338
For a realistic version, the followers who prefer one god of the polytheistic religion find out that there are monotheists and think to themselves that their favored is a lot like the monotheist god they found and make it so
in lore that one god kills the rest and assumes their role, or all but one dies off in a Ragnarok scenario.
>>55062338
Look at the Hindu religion, all gods are just aspects of Krishna. If the Hindus decided worshipping the central being is better than the aapects, youd get something like the many faced god.
