How do you properly communicate the themes or "feel" of a given setting or location?
How do you avoid locations, people, cultures etc. from being bland or samey?
How do you communicate in-world trivia and information without doing an exposition dump, i.e. keep Discovery and uncovering new facets of the setting interesting to the players?
>How do you properly communicate the themes or "feel" of a given setting or location?
Through the adventures the players have there
>How do you avoid locations, people, cultures etc. from being bland or samey?
This is the dumbest fag question you could possibly ask. If you want to make something then just do cool shit that you like. Otherwise just use shit that is already made.
>How do you communicate in-world trivia and information without doing an exposition dump
You fucking don't you fag. Either it comes up in the adventure or it doesn't. If you really wanna get off to talking about all your world's random trivia then just use throwaway lines:
"The market is busy with stalls selling fresh bread and juicy glorbs."

Have the NPCs act diferenctly, consider different things important. The surroundings, the architecture. Elephants being sacred for example. Try using different foods and drinks available at the tavern, this already tells much about local crops, spices and animals without going into...

Be brief, have one phrase of useful infos here and there. I suggest you think of the equivalent RL place to where the PCs are going, and check a traveling blog which went there. See what the writer found curious and interesting. For example, how Indian palaces-fortresses had spiked gates to avoid that elephants ram them. How tropical islands could be so humid and salty that the natives crafted brass armours with loose covering to avoid the rusting and heatstrokes that steel cuirass users would suffer from. Both of these can affect the players.
Finally, know what your players like to hear.
What are some secret societys in your setting?
>Leviathan Guard
An ancient order of knights that meets up once every month to keep an ancient beast known only as The Leviathan in chains.
It's colours are gunmetal grey and dark blue and its emblem is a skull with tentacles coming out of its mouth.
>Fae union
A relatively new society that seeks to merge the real world with the Fae wild. It's colours are Jade and Purple and it's emblem is a eye made of grass and roots
>Students of First Hunters
This society seeks to destroy civilization and have eveyone return to tribal eras. It's colours are tan and red and it's emblem is a spear.
Anything? I personally know of Crypt of Veritas and 1572 The Lost Expedition, but I want to know if there is more. Anyone know anything. I can draw stuff so I can make everything I'd need to get some interesting stuff going on(I did a thing where I drew out a concept of a dude and used dice rolls set how strong, deep, angled the cut was)

How do you play without map tools?
It has been a year. My goal was to break a 1000 point rating on chess.com by the one year mark, and I am right back to where I started. Should I just quit? I've played nearly 3000 games and I feel like I've wasted my time. I love chess, but I can't seem to improve.
I'm not sure if /tg/ even plays chess.

What time control are you playing at? Play slower games, study endgames and tactics and see whether it pays off
So a buddy of mine has invited me to play Savage Worlds: Achtung Cthuhlu with him, but I don't know the rules at all. Does anyone have any links to some PDFs I can torrent or download so I can read up and not be completely lost by then?

How would you run a nautical game?
What system?
Hey /tg/, I'm interested in playing a game with gigantic robots that may or may not be fighting other gigantic robots and/or monsters.
I'm looking for as much customization of the robots themselves as possible, since the people playing are the same kind of people who kit-bash Gundam kits and build their own parts. They like to customize.
I know there's an Ad Eva system, though I don't know much about it, but I'm not really familiar with any other systems that fit this genre.
Can anybody recommend anything good for me?
Additionally, so we have have some discussion, thread questions:
When was your last giant robot game?
What was the plot like?
Any memorable moments?
What is your favorite giant robot series/game/etc.

SHOW ME YOUR HONOUR, ANON!
Looking to homebrew a totem spirit for my 5e barbarian. His race is Oni, so I think something like a Nue would be fitting. Any ideas on how this would work?
Seriously? No ideas?
Hi anons, I'm in desperate need of some night city art, to be very specific I am looking for a pic that shows a scene of carnage at night in the city. Don't have much to give as I'm at work now

Don't know why the image was spoilered
Hi /tg/, I desperately need your help.
I have a day where I get to decide what two friends and myself do for around 8 hours and I want to introduce them to the joys of imagination. I've done some dnd as a player, friend 1 is up for damn near anything where he can dickishly reinterpret rules, and friend 2 is a huge action movie buff.
What's a game I can play with relatively little setup that would make things fun for me and friend 1 but also give friend 2 a chance to really get into character as a badass who has to think a *little bit* to not die? I want friend 2 to walk away after 5-7 hours of this feeling awesome and excited to play again.
Would prefer a game with relatively few rules and no monetary investment, and I would be eternally grateful if you provided a game AND an initial plot/story to overcome.
I will come back in a week or few with a similar post if you don't have a full idea now, but I'd really appreciate ideas now.

I'm on mobile so I can't upload the pdf, but I recommend WaRP. Very rules lite, free and works well with action in my experience. It doesn't come with an adventure though

Thanks, looking into this now!
