I want to launch a bit of a thought experiment here.
We can point to specific styles when it comes to "full plate armour". we got GOTHIC armour, MILANESE armour, ENGLISH etc.
Now, if we go back to the 8th-10th century scandinavia we have the Norse people, culturally distinct from the rest of christian europe, who never had more advanced armour than maille and some instances of lamellar. The norse people eventually turned christian and joined the rest of the european political stage, but what we will try to consider today is this hypothetical:
What would a culturally Norse Full-plate armour look like?
Assuming that they had access to the required resources, technology and skill to design their own type of armour.

Pictured here is a Vendel helmet. I find it curious that the norse largely abandoned faceplates before the viking era but I suppose it's a bit like hand protection. Not very useful when you got your shield and you want to save money anyways.
Another tidbit to consider: there is some evidence to suggest that the Iron hat (or kettle helm) was a scandinavian invention that was brought to england by norwegian crusaders, but that is an 11th century thing so not entirely relevant for us.

I want my players to find a series of encrypted messages and I want them to decrypt them.
I wanted something more complex than a simple Substitution cipher yet not complex enough to need an Enigma machine.
Any suggestions?

Make a codebook. A physical, actual codebook. Say, 5 pages with 5 (and six) letters on each of the pages. Show them the pages, but not closely.
Burn one page.
As they find the other pages, in roleplay/game/treasures, give them the physical pages.
They should gain enough information to solve the remainder of the letters with all four pages. Important note - it's a substitution cipher, so don't make it linear or 4 off type. Using literal symbols is best for this sort of thing.

Depending on how involved you want to get >>54967956 is definitely a good way to go about it. Alternatively make them a Vigenere wheel out of a paper spinner and let them work out the index over the course of the game (or indices and maybe even a new wheel if there are several puzzles or the antagonist works out that it's been burned.)

So I was recently looking at the Anima - Beyond Fantasy Perfect World Guide, and I noticed that Druaga is listed as one of the messengers, but isn't in the list of messengers from Gaia Volume 1. From the description, it seems like he's an organ of Baal or something. Does anybody know what he's supposed to be?

Jeebus Cripes D&D mini's are terrible. The quality is just.. so bad. You could tell somebody was painting them on an assembly line.
But I still bought some cause a few were really exceptional, but they cost a lot of money. I really would expect people to buy these for fifty cents a piece or so, but apparently collectors with more money than taste have made these super rare.
It seems like there is a vacuum for cheap, plastic mini's, but the d&d mini's are so GOOFY, not scary at all. Plus they have every "lol, not evil" schtick in the book.
I just want to give a shout out to whoever made those skeleton mini's, i'm sure you know who you are, cause those mini's were badass, you don't belong with those plebs.

Curious how everyone feels about this rpg.
I bought Only War and Rogue Trader a few years ago and tried running an Only War campaign with some friends.
I think it does the setting justice but I ended up feeling like the rules were ridiculously convoluted (might be inexperience with the rule set tho). The combat took forever and the power disparity between the lowly lasgun and the other weapons feels just bonkers.
We did have a pretty fun battle where their Ogryn got on top of a rebel Rhino (not Chaos Marines, basically had the Alpha legion supplying a local uprising on a agri-world) and pull open the top hatch. I tried to throw him off by running the Rhino in reverse while his party looked on in amazement but after a couple rounds he passed the strength test and ripped it open and tossed a nade inside. Fun stuff to narrate no doubt.
Anyway, the campaign kind of ran out of steam after a few weekends because I couldn't close the power disparity gap without making the party op or making the enemy op. Maybe this was a bias on my part and I should have been more aggressive at killing their characters off? That aside however, the real thing that killed it was the mix of hyper detailed rules in specific situations and really vague rules in others. As the GM I tried to buff that out by making quick rulings to keep stuff moving along but after a few nights it started causing the couple "rules lawyers" to start questioning my decisions (you know the type) due to how convoluted stuff was getting in the middle of battles.
I lost interest in the rules after that but I really enjoyed the setting a lot and want to try another, but I'm interested in any thoughts and tips from anyone who has more experience with the system for the 40K rpg.
I know the game is discontinued but I got the pds for the expansions and still have the core rules and dm guide.

I need some advice on GMing soon.
I GM'd short things before, but our current awful GM is finally quitting soon and I'm the only one who will take over. My stuff I ran before was well received so I'm not too worried, but there are a couple of things I'm stuck on with one of the players.
This player gets OOC nervous when making decisions IC, leading him to frequent inaction or poor decisions. For a long time he basically didn't take part in combat because he was scared. He talked like it was in character, but you could hear him wheezing and panting over the mic (he's a landwhale) as he paced around and got REALLY defensive about it whenever it was brought up. He also admitted to it (somewhat) later. Any advice for this? Do I baby him, or do I force shit on him so he grows a spine? I know it's his fault, but with me becoming GM is there something I can do to help?
The other problem is one that applies to anybody, but mostly the above guy in my case, is the difference between IC and OOC intelligence. Just like you don't need to be ripped to make a high STR character, you don't need to be a genius to make a high INT character. But this guy is currently playing a medic but doesn't even know what blood pressure is. All medical shit has devolved into him rolling and just asking the GM what he does. All treatment is just 'what's the problem' and rolling dice while saying 'I fix it' or 'I do that' once the GM has just described the treatment. How do I help someone along when they're playing a character they can't RP? Do I describe his surgery for him? He's about to hit wizardhood IRL, lives with his parents, and has no education beyond high school, so he literally lacks even basic knowledge of the world on many levels.
The guy's alright, so I don't really want to lose him, but his lack of creativity makes doing anything hard. I genuinely want to help.

Now, one of the most important parts about Splatoon is the area control elements. A TCG/LCG would likely lose that without severe altered assumptions on how a TCG/LCG playspace works.
Now for a Deckbuilder, I'd say you'd be less using it as a deckbuilder alone and more like a game with deckbuilding mechanics as a method of engine building. So more a boardgame with a deckbuilding system alongside it or central to advancement, like the mage knight board game or great western trail.

Yeah, I was thinking about dice masters and since there are so many variables in splatoon as well, I thought that dice would work too.
I do like the idea of a board game but I don't want it to be a common game and I want expansion packs to work too. So the question is, what would work better?
