Something went wonky with the newest version of Da Archive, 4chan rejected it. This is new to me. It claimed it had malicious content. I had run it through Virustotal and it was ok. I even remade the pdf and tried again. Hummmm.

DnD has fucking awful damaging spells that are rarely worth it.

FATE is... Okay. It's good at what it does but by this point it's not particularly impressive. Aspects and the concepts it was working with were revolutionary when they first turned up, but by now they're kinda par for the course for narrative games.

It's a solid system for genre emulation, lots of neat narrative rules for making your character matter and a significant amount of content and subsystems you can plug in for various themes and settings.

I've always liked the idea of FATE, but what's let it down for me has been the lack of a meaningful and enjoyable combat system. In so many stories conflict is the center of storytelling, those climactic moments when everything comes to a head really mean something. And in my experience FATE just fails to capture that. Combat feels like everything else, at best, or annoyingly unsatisfying at worst, especially since the actual 'game' of combat is a solved puzzle by this point, with a single optimal strategy that's always best and no real variety in what you can choose to do.

tl:dr: Fate is a narrative-focused rpg. Those who come from a more traditional ones - say, D&D - need to do a perspective shift to grok it. Some can do it better than others, and some will find out they actually prefer more gamist-centered games instead.

game is quality, but it touches on so much classical mythology you could spend decades pointing out things any fantasy game has in common with Dominions.

It's truly a titan of intricate auteur design; second only to Dwarf Fortress in that sense

But seriously, PCs tearing down walls and such isn't exactly common enough to make good rules specifically for that. Not to mention that using combat rules for non-combat demolition work is somewhat dumb to begin with.

If you're destroying a wall in a noncombat situation, why would you need to roll to hit the wall? Why not just take 20?
If your issue is with the time it would take to get through a wall, that's a whole different thing.

Well, Mierce are ok-tier as far as 3rd party miniatures goes. They are not particularly famous but they are not infamous for bad quality either.

Their casts are generally very nice, I've got a fair number of their models (from 7 different KS of their, latest being Mighty Monsters).
Their big monsters are especially nice.
Their resin infantry use some clever tricks for sturdiness, such as brass rods inside the spears to help keep them stable.
The models are nicely detailed, though thin resin is fragile, so be careful with them.
Much of the basic infantry is available in metal now though, which should be better in that department.
