It's tropey as fuck, but I REALLY like going the "Fire Emblem" or "Dynasty Warriors" route with things where most figures in positions of leadership or nobility are in those positions because they earned them with their strength.
I find it makes them much more interesting than "LOL level 2 Commoner stat block that you could probably kill, along with all his guards, because you're a level 4 ADVENTURER with a PLAYER CHARACTER CLASS LEVELS! King's basically just some normie who got the throne from Daddy, LOL."

I'm stuck on a design point, and it's kind of annoying. It's SUPPOSED to be a game about wheeling and dealing between a powerful Empire player and the 6 or so barbarians at the fringes; the Barbarians, if united can easily crush the empire, but none of them will get enough money for their own victory conditions if plunder divides more or less equally.

The idea is to encourage the Empire to constantly switch alliances by paying off the various barbs (they generate a lot more cash), but in practice, I can't come up with a way of stopping the Empire from just permanently allying with 2 barbarian players and virtually ensuring that the three of them win.

Maybe you only let one of them win in the end. Hunger Games style, people form temporary alliances but ultimately need to kill each other.

Maybe new units for existing factions? Space Marines get their Primaris™ friends, Eldar get Rangers, Orks get Kommandos etc.

Also more skills, stuff that would make you want to differ from the shooting or guerilla tree, like being able to throw certain melee weapons or being able to use weapons off of a downed enemy/ally.

Should be set on some kind of Fringe planet, or maybe in the remains of Cadia.

to come back to the thread theme, i say its pretty much dead. What you should want is maybe a 2nd edition with necromunda rules(depending on how good those will be....) and CONTINUED support in the form of longer available box sets and better campaign rules/more balance between the factions.

Yes.
You might want to consider getting another pair of dice or using a dice rolling app, because it only comes with one set of dice.

You can also find the full rules in the /5eg/, and the basic rules are also online on the wizard's website.

In truth, all you really need is the above link and some dice (or a dice app), but the starter set is designed to teach you how to play and includes an adventure and example characters so you have a good place to start from.

Or try a different fantasy game like deluxe - Tunnels & Trolls? It only requires one book but far more content if you wish to diversify in the future. It also only requires six sided dice which everybody has to some extent.

I'm pretty new to tt. Is it normal for people to ignore their stats when roleplaying? Coming into the hobby I expected the low wisdom pc to bravely charge the enemy lines.

Instead I just see people basing roleplaying off their backstory and "video gaming" combat.
