How would you run a Cowboy Bebop game?
What system would you use. What plot hooks and themes would you play with?
It's such a cool concept but I have no idea how to emulate it in tabletop form without losing the things that make it exciting.
For a first choice I'd use Bounty Head Bebop, because it was written to do it. If an in-depth read showed it to suck, however, I'd fall back to a lightly modified Traveller, because that's damn close to Cowboy Bebop already. (Close enough that while watching the show I sometimes wondered if it was based on somebody's custom-setting Traveller campaign)

Hm, I'm skimming through BHB's rulebook.
It definitely gets the setting flavor right, but the rules seems a bit too simulationist for the kind of crazy shit they pull off in the series.
Thanks for the rec anyways, I'll give the book a proper read later on.
Your party is targeted by small headed goblin assassin that is master in stealth, also has escape artist and acrobatic traits. He can hide almost anywhere and even inside creatures, such as your PCs
>walk into an inn
>barman yawns, no, its actually goblin assassin inside him stabs you in the eye from his mouth
>your PC to take a dump
>no it's actually goblin assassin inside your ass stabs you in the dick
how would your party do?
>more lazy jojospam
bronies at least stay in their containment board.

So /tg/ I'm planning on running a space game but I'm not sure what system to use. I've played Star Wars and Eclipse Phase before but I'm more interested in running a Original setting. Mostly because I think my favorite Sci-fi franchises have that "fish out of water" feel to them like Farscape. Basically I want the players to have to explore a new setting without knowing anything about it. So what do you guys like to run for space games and do you have any advice for them.
>>51442279
You should check out Traveller.

Stat them in one system, tell them it's that system, but run them in another.
So it is my understanding that we went from a feudal military systems to our current systems is a because new military technologies were relatively cheap and easy to use.
What kind of technologies would you need to go from our current systems to a more feudal one?

Considering/planning a largely homebrew kinda-in-40k universe rpg where players take on the role of a firefly-esque bounty hunter or profiteer on the wrong side of the imperium. Some allowances to setting will have to be made to add more character to the civilian culture of the grim darkness. No astartes pcs allowed. Things will be balanced around the existing wh40k Statline system - I hope this will make the experience less about long combat sequences and more about good heist planning/ pc craftiness.
Questions:
Should (human) pcs be able to become astartes?
Should the law enforcement be the arbites or the classic interpretation of marines as badass space cops?
Should the dark eldar fill the role of reavers or a little unsettling but mostly goodcunt party bros?
Are slaneesh worshipping astartes or tyranids be the scariest thing in the 'verse?
What non-tabletop races or factions should be considered as still significant in universe forces?
Should xenos be rarer to place emphasis on the interactions with law enforcement or more common to accentuate the 40k flavor?
How tough should a single astartes be for the party to take down?
Is /tg interested enough for me to keep yall posted as I try to develop this mess of a system?
Should (human)
>>51441697
>Should (human) pcs be able to become astartes?
No. Not unless they're fine with retiring the character or have them return as npcs many, many years later.
>Should the law enforcement be the arbites or the classic interpretation of marines as badass space cops?
Make it Arbites or whatever the local system's got for void law enforcement. I'd keep Space Marines a once-in-a-blue-moos kinda thing.
>Should the dark eldar fill the role of reavers or a little unsettling but mostly goodcunt party bros?
They should be scary as fuck. Eldar corsairs can be the other thing, sometimes.
>Are slaneesh worshipping astartes or tyranids be the scariest thing in the 'verse?
It's a pretty big galaxy so don't feel like you have to follow the retarded, lazy path of making everything about marines and chaos. There are countless minor factions and races between the stars held by the Imperium.
>What non-tabletop races or factions should be considered as still significant in universe forces?
Same answer as above.
>Should xenos be rarer to place emphasis on the interactions with law enforcement or more common to accentuate the 40k flavor?
Depends on where the players are. Closer to Imperial space means more interactions with law enforcement, and the further out you go, the more xenos you find.
>How tough should a single astartes be for the party to take down?
Really, really though. Pointing your ship's guns at him still gets you a dead astartes if you don't miss though.
>Is /tg interested enough for me to keep yall posted as I try to develop this mess of a system?
I am at least.
>>51441697
So how closely do you want to base this on the existing 40k or Firefly rpgs? Mechanically I mean? For instance the marine question could be answered by just porting over the stats from the existing RPGs to an extent, since it is possible to roll marines and average joes in that, so it could give you an idea, but then you're just re-skinning it and that doesn't sound like what you are going for.
I really do appreciate having another opinion going into this whole thing. At a glance I can pretty much say I agree with you on all accounts. At first I was leaning towards having the sort of classic rogue trader space marine as the cops but I think that having marines be really scary impact players in imperial sectors that only show up when someone really wants a pc dead will make for a more engaging and threatening setting like you said.
>another question:
How many liberties do you think I should take with the fluff of imperial sectors? As of current everything seems way to oppressed for an outlaw type setting to flourish, but I also don't want to lose the imperium being total dickwads.
What are the defining elements of a "non-generic" fantasy setting, /tg/?
There seems to be a backlash against classical fantasy elements, like European medieval aesthetics, Tolkien, D&D, which are often labelled as generic and uninspired, so what are the alternatives? And how do these avoid becoming "generic" themselves after becoming more popular with time?
If something becomes a defining element, it's no longer non-generic.
There is no way to avoid becoming generic if you are successful. It's how media and markets work.
>>51441139
>What are the defining elements of a "non-generic" fantasy setting, /tg/?
A lack of the defining elements of generic fantasy.
Generally? A lack of psuedo-Western-European aesthetics, few to no playable non-human races, a deliberate attempt to draw on the legends and aesthetics of cultures outside the Western and Northern European spheres (Arabian Nights, Chinese mythology, Japanese mythology, and Slavic mythology seem most popular right now), a deliberate attempt to present elves as alien and sinister beings that are not at all humanlike, and a general aversion to classical fantasy tropes in general, are all hallmarks of the "non generic" fantasy setting. And yes, they will become generic themselves if they catch on widely, that's how the cycle works.

Whats a good system to run gladiator combat in? One that's got some variety and strategy but isn't so complex or big it scares my players away from having a night of bloodsports.
There was actually a Dragon Magazine article on how to run a Gladitorial campaign in D&D. It was pretty impressive, including a lot of historical options including feats and optional new uses of skills (like performing weapon routines to get the crowd amped up), but it also gave the fair warning that spellcasters really upset the idea because they would be able to prepare their spells for the day specifically for opponents and their schedule.
I'm gonna see if I can find the PDF in the archive.

>>51435899
It's shit because of an obviously imbalanced ruleset that triggers autists who try to waac as hard as they can. Also for a game that was advertised as an aggressive game it promotes passive play. It's really the league of legends of tabletop
>>51436207
I see. So the main issue is that the game isn't well balanced and the actual gameplay doesn't match the intention? I will keep that in mind then.
>>51435899
The game heavily promotes setting up combos within your own list and counterpicking against your opponent's. It's not like, say, Infinity.

Anyone seen any good conversions for Greyfax? I don't really dig her (overdesigned and has an ugly face), but I feel bad leaving her unbuilt.
Do you think she could be converted to a half-way decent Canoness? Do you know any helmets that might look good on here?
Is there a way to use a wash without also making the area in general look 'dirty?'
There's a relatively flat area I'm trying to paint but it has some extremely fine slats on it - think like a mini-scale radiator or something, and no matter how hard I try to avoid getting basecoat color in the details, the paint winds up flowing into the tiny recesses anyways and ruins the shading from the wash.

I don't think they'd have made it if Feeblemind didn't go off. Matt looked a bit miffed, but he burned all those resistances on just maintaining concentration, so she definitely deserved getting blown up by a big spell. And Kerrek getting the finishing blow was highly amusing. Raishan ends up dying a dumb beast. If only Marisha's autistic screeching didn't undermine an otherwise tremendous episode.
